having lots of trouble keeping up

I used to be an advanced stepper. It's been a couple of years but I have been to a couple clubs since and haven't had much trouble.

With Cathe's DVD's I am getting lost easily and very discouraged because I am looking at her from the front. I have only looked at the instructor from behind and catch on easily.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You'll find that all video instructors do what is called 'mirror cuing': they face us, so their left is our right. For those of us who have done mainly video workouts, it's not hard to follow, but I can imagine that it will take a while for you to get used to if you are used to being 'behind' the instructor.

I don't think there's any special technique to get used to this, aside from practice (and perhaps putting a mirror in your workout space, so you get used to how the moves you do look in a mirror and tranfer that perspective to what Cathe is doing and how you should follow her).

Remember, what you see on the screen is what you would see in a mirror.

I felt the same way when I started with Cathe after stepping at a gym. Just take your time. Focus on one section of the routine at a time. Also, it helped me to say what leg I was using in my head. You will get it! Some people have recommended using the slow motion speed. Also, Cathe says to watch the moves first. Hope this helps. Melissa

I used to be a gym stepper too and had some of the same frustrations when first starting with Cathe's step dvds.

It helped me to preview the dvd/section first to kind of let it all sink in and then take a smaller section at a time. Sometimes I repeat a tough segment and sometimes just move on and come back the next day.

I've been pleasantly surprised to find that !wow! it eventually all just comes together, and the feet know just what to do. So now I've got a few Cathe routines under the belt but still working on some others that are challenging. :7 Beth :7

I think that it's all in what you are used to. I re-learned step aerobics through Cathe and find that I have a hard time keeping up when I take a class through a gym because I am facing the same way as the instructor.

One way that I found that helped greatly is to pause the DVD, then push the FF button to get the DVD player to play the section at 1/2 speed. This is the way I learned Low Max and it helped greatly!!!
