Have you found any natural remedies/solutions that have helped with your depression?

Surprisingly, for me the thing that has worked the best for me was taking a B-50 vitamin. Has made an amazing difference for me - so simple who woulda' thought! Worth a try if other meds cause problems for you.

That's great that the B-50 worked for you so well. I currently take b-100 and it helps me in other ways but not for depression. I'm just so happy when people find solutions that are easy and without complications. :)

Suethepooh, thank you for the link. Dr. Oz certainly does address issues that need to be discussed with an open mind and open solutions. I have never seen It's A Wonderful Life. One of these days, or years lol, I do want to watch it along with another Christmas movie staple that I haven't seen and can't think of the name of right now. Music is great! That Cure song is very cheery. Thanks for the hugs. :)

Sandra, thanks for those links. Diet truly is EVERYTHING! I do have a good diet (not around the holidays, though;)) but would like to improve it at some point. I've gone through many good food programs in the past including something similar to the link you sent but there still would remain something off balance. Yes, I'm off balance and not too proud to admit it! :p

Thanks again!

One idea if you're already taking fish oil...how much are you taking and does your dose have the most helpful balance?

Fish Oil for Depression

I enjoy the above blog. I'm currently taking a concentrated fish oil from vitacost...

MegaEFA...2 capsules have 800mg EPA and 400mg DHA. I feel like this is helping..(I also take St. John's Wort). I'd have to more than double what I'm taking to reach the levels recommended in the article. I'll consider it as time goes on.

I also use herbs Holy Basil, Eleuthero, and Rhodiola - in tincture form.

It is very much a Your Mileage May Vary situation. I hope you find something that works for you.

High EPA Fish Oil

I find that O3mega Mood or o3mega Joy, which has a very high EPA to DHA ratio, two or three capsules a day does the trick for me....best of luck with this.

Dr Daniel Amen's (many) books are about brain health, depression, add and in most of them he specifically discusses the use and role of all of the supplements and viteys previously mentioned on this thread plus more, all in the spirit of optimizing brain health, function. He also has focus on nutrition and fitness--you might find him helpful.

Thank you, ladies, for your responses. I have taken many different fish oil/omega supplements and my brain (the pieces that are still there :p) do not like them. I always feel more anxious or frustrated or just plain yucky so unfortunately for me, that's not a route I can take at this time. Perhaps that will change.

I have enjoyed listening to Dr. Amen on PBS and do have one of his books. I have not followed his protocol but he does have some great insights and solutions.

Thanks again everyone!

I want to give a quick update. As I mentioned in a previous response, I was going to start taking Relaxium because I had a bottle in my house. It suggests taking 2-4 capsules a day but because of my sensitivities, I started with one. I've been taking it for several nights now and noticed a difference after the first dose. There's a lightness in me. I'm waking up ready to start the day quicker than before. I just upped it to 2 capsules last night so I'm going to see what that does. Sometimes for me, more is not necessarily better so I will be experimenting. I do also want to try the L-tyrosine and the other suggestions as well but, of course, it's important to start with one so you know what's working and what's not.

I want to thank everyone for your kindness and understanding. We are not meant to live in darkness so it's important to not give up in finding the light! (Actually, the light is always in each and every one of us. It just sometimes gets camouflaged by other situations.)

With much gratitude and hopes for Divine health, love, peace and prosperity in the New Year!

Good luck Bam, I am thinking of you. I hope you can find something to alleviate the low mood until the spring brings back our sunlight and longer days. The next two months will be crucial to maintaining equilibrium. I shall be struggling right along with you. Exercise helps, but it can't do everything....

Any time you feel that you need someone to talk to about the nitty gritty of it all, someone to listen, just drop me a pm. That's if you don;t have anybody close to you, that is. I'll listen and see if I can see a way through with you.

Big hugs,

Clare

Clare, thank you SO much. That was very kind of you to offer! The Relaxium does seem to be helping. I took two the other night but decided to go back to one last night. I think the one is working better for me right now. The seasons don't affect me. My stuff is situtational. I continue to look for solutions. There have been some great ones posted here. I ordered l-tyrosine today and will get that some time next week. I do lots of prayer work and getting to the heart of the matter but I haven't mastered it yet. I don't believe anyone is meant to suffer. We mustn't quit looking for our solutions because we are soooooooooo worth it!

Thanks again!
