HATE is a many splendored thing - Mar 20

I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

I am still waiting for my visitor, but Cathe just made me jump for joy with her Road Trip announcement. :7 She is having it in August this year! :7

August, the 8 most common food allergens (accounting for 90 percent of all food allergy reactions) are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.

Thankfully, I am only allergic to fish, shellfish, and soy (as well as MSG and mushrooms). You need to avoid all foods with these ingredients for 21 days then challenge yourself by reintroducing one at a time. It basically involves a modified fast. Start reading labels, and you will see that it requires super clean eating. Oh, you need to avoid barley, oats, corn, and rice too! Here is a good article with instruction for an elimination diet:

http://www.rwood.com/Articles/Identify_Food_Allergies.htm

As for meat, I am not allergic to beef or chicken. I just feel sluggish after eating it like I have a rock in my stomach. I have fasted all animal products for 40 days in the past and felt so much better. Earlier this year, I was eating moderate portions of cottage cheese, yogurt, and eggs. I was losing weight and feeling great, so dairy and eggs are not a problem for me. Foods I am truly allergic to cause me to swell, gain 10-15 pounds overnight, itch all over for days, and have an asthma-like reaction. They also trigger depression, mood swings, and ADD symptoms. Dark chocolate (which is processed with soy lecithin) does not seem to bother me. Isolated soy protein causes digestive issues and bloating. I can eat a Clif Bar or Odwalla Bar occasionally without a reaction. Every day is a problem. Soy protein drinks cause an immediate reaction. It only takes one bite of something with mushrooms in it to cause a reaction. I cannot tolerate MSG at all either.

Shelley, I started my chocolate and cheese fast on Valentine’s Day instead of Ash Wednesday. I like to fast for 40 consecutive days. Lent is officially longer than 40 days because Sundays are not counted. I am finishing a 12-week Cathe rotation this week. I have not eaten any restaurant foods in 12 weeks other than a kiddie cup of frozen yogurt Saturday night. That has been my one “cheat” for this 12 weeks. I am planning a “play” week next week to recover from Cathe and want to have a few fun meals too. I planned this to end with my 12-week rotation so I could go out to eat with friends then start a new rotation on the first of next month.

Who is up for an August Cathe Road Trip?

Blessings,
Heather B.

Michele I like the PS series. But the GS are harder. I hate GS chest/triceps so I always sub in PS chest/shoulders/triceps for that one. PS Legs is pretty tough. I rarely do back/biceps just because I love GS BSB so much.

The only thing is that most of the reps are just straight reps rather then 2-2 or up 4 down 2, etc.

The workouts go by quickly though.

Hi again!

Dana - I was definitely eating too much before. I'm probably eating half of what I was eating before, if not even less than that! It is tough, but I have a lot more willpower this time around knowing that I have to go in and get on a scale in front of women I don't know (and I have the wedding coming up!) No, we haven't set an exact date yet. Or a place, or anything Argh. Pinning my DF down about that is going to be tough.

A new truck? Your DH sounds like my best friend's DH. He is into his vehicles! Holy crap. He spent more $$ on vehicles than on his own house. I'm not kidding. Your DH sounds a bit more reasonable than that though.

I hope you do get to buy some fun stuff with the income tax money... A girl's got to have a little fun, right? Put half on your car and the rest on fun!

Michele - I'll check out that website. I need new workout stuff too, but I think I better start working out consistently before I buy things to do it in!

The servings are pretty small of those items... like a 1/2 a pear is considered a fruit, 6 baby carrots are considered a vegetable, and protein and starch serving are really small too. Don't worry, I've been cheating just enough to make sure I'm getting at least 1600 calories a day in. I don't want my metabolism to slow down. That's the last thing I need! But I do need to exercise....

Speaking of having more fun, I've decided to cut my school load in half this spring so I can do that! I'll still be classified as full-time student so I can get loans, but it will be such a relief to only have two classes instead of four!! I might not graduate as fast, but there's no need to rush it. I've got a good job(s) now, and with my experience, I'll continue to move up.

Oh, joy!!!!!!

OK, I'm going to go workout now too! BBL

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Hi ladies -

Crazy day. I just got to my desk finally.

Guess what I just got??? A 80GB IPOD!! The kind that plays videos!! I got it as a gift from the clients on that case I have stayed late on a bunch of times. The clients gave one to everyone that has stayed late a lot, including the administrative staff. How nice is that?

Today these clients are being nice to me, but yesterday I had two clients that were outright mean to me for no reason. I was just so stressed about it I started crying (not in front of the clients, at home with my DH). These preggo hormones are crazy.

Yes, I agree we should go on some kind vacation. DH and I were talking about it last night. We are thinking of just going somewhere in driving distance in Texas so that we save $ on a flight, and just spending 2 nights somewhere to cut down on costs. Maybe going back to Austin (where we both went to school) or somewhere in the hill country.

Arista - I know that some people ask for money for their wedding, but beware that a lot of people don't like giving money as a gift. My cousin and his fiance asked for money that would go towards a specific thing - new furniture. So at least there was a specific goal in mind, although I still hated sending a check instead of a gift. So if you decide to ask for money, maybe have it go towards a specific goal (down payment on a house, new furniture, or something like that). People want to feel they are contributing something to your new marriage, not just paying bills.

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Diane and Arista
I agree about the money,,
Its kind of tacky to ask outright for money, but if you word it like diane said, telling others of a goal you have, then it makes people feel good about giving you that.
You have to be so careful you know the expression "Its not what you said but how you said it""

and yes, im feeling soooo much better today, so i expect to feel even better tomorrow

I got a Beach Body series, there are 2 ab routines 2 cardio routines and 2 sculpt with weight routines Each one has a level 1 and 2 and each stresses that you should not do level 2 till you are comfortable completing level 1

Jen hows the tummy today

Shelly, whats got you in this down mood is it all PMS ???

I just got an appointment for a consultation this evening for lasix on my eyes. when I lived in NY i wore contact lenses for over 25 years then i moved to fla and i cant wear them
When i first moved here and tried to wear them i kept getting what they called pink eye. After trips to the emergency room and several trips to eye doctor with no health insurance and then eyes becoming so sensitive to the light they would just close of their own accord while i was driving, i gave in and wore glasses....I HATE then.. We are allowed to say HATE in this forum right...
So wish me luck..

I just got off the phone with a girlfriend, she had a internet date last nite and had called me from the bathroom saying she didnt know how to be polite and get out of there... i was gonna call her but she said honestly she got herself into it she would get herself out of it. She called today to say she would rather sit and watch "paint dry" then have to ever go thru that again...LOL
I told her about once having a "blind date" from a dating service come to my house for coffee. (I know that was stupid but i never claimed to be sensible) anyway after a few mins he started to cry,, told me all about his ex girlfriend and the tears led to sobs and him saying he was so hurt and missed her so much, Then he got on his knees and put his head in my lap (Not x rated girls dont be thinking that) and sobbed till i started patting his head and saying it will be OK,,,,,,and under my breath praying Oh God let me get this over with

Finally i just spoke the truth and said i thought he should leave and i wished him well
I sighed the biggest sigh of relief when that was over

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Hi girls...

We actually need the money so we can afford to go on a honeymoon. We haven't been on a real vacation in three years and I'm starting to get the itch to run away and never come back! So that's what it would be for... Is that totally dumb? I guess I could say it was for furniture... and quite honestly we do need help with a downpayment on a house, so I could honestly say that that was what it was for. And then we'll just put the trip on the credit cards or something.. Goodness, this marriage stuff is silly.

Mariah - LOL... sorry to laugh but your blind date story made me chuckle. Poor guy - and poor you!! I'm jealous of the lasik surgery you might get... I hope you can get it. My dad had it done and said it was super easy, fast recovery, all good. I know what you mean about contacts... sometimes I can wear them, sometimes I can't. I've heard that in hot and humid places, those eye infections can get really bad and numerous. I don't like glasses that much either.

OK, DF and I are going to buy a laptop since our other one crashed yesterday. BBL!!

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Heather, YEA!!! I'm so excited that the Road Trip is on a weekend when you can go! I'll want to hear about everything and I'll want details, you hear!?

Diane, I'm so glad you're going to take a little time together before the baby comes. You've been working so hard and you need the down time and some time for yourselves just to connect. I'm going to hold you to it;). Where you go doesn't really matter -- the point is to be together in a relaxing and carefree environment with the person you love most in the world.

Which brings me to {{{{{Arista}}}}} and the wedding/honeymoon/gift thing:7

If money is an issue, then you and Ryan need to sit down and figure out what part of all this means the most to you and let everything else go. Frankly, if I had it to do all over again, I'd skip the big wedding and go for a simple service, limiting guests to family and our closest friends. When I think of what we spent on our wedding (we paid for everything ourselves) we really could have used that money for more important things, like buying a house, paying off tuition, etc. My best advice to you is to keep it simple and use the money for things that really matter. The wedding stuff is just a big party anyway, and the only people who are even going to remember your day are you and Ryan and the people closest to you.

As for your honeymoon -- so maybe you can't go to some exotic, tropical paradise. There are any number of affordable trips you can take. My DH and I drove to a quaint, little town about 20 miles from our home and stayed in a B&B. It wasn't fancy but it was romantic, and we had a wonderful time, and that's really all that matters. :* Don't stress over this stuff -- it ain't worth it, really it isn't.

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Arista - I agree with Michele. Keep the honeymoon simple, it doesn't have to be a swanky affair. The money could be more useful long term for a down payment or furniture. I also think that your DH's parents are "traditionally" supposed chip in or pay for the honeymoon, so it could possibily be a slight to them that you let everyone know you have to pay for it yourself. Maybe they won't care, but maybe they will.

Also, my cousin did something cute. In the thank you card, they put a picture of them with their new furniture so that people could see what their money went to. I thought that was a cute idea, letting everyone know their money went to good use. If you are saving up for a down payment, you probably couldn't get the house (or picture) in time for the thank you note, but you get the idea. People want to buy you something tangible - a house, a car, furniture.

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Good evening haters!

Michelle- So what did you end up having for dinner last night? Have you heard from the doctor? I hate trash night too, like you said just one of those things that is annoying!

Terri- So when do you give the proposal to the new possible client? I will say a prayer for you that you get it, which I know you will!

Corrie- Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, that makes me feel good that you feel comfortable enough with us to share something like that! Oh, I go to my girly doctor every year for a pap, that I do so I know I am all good there, I just haven't been to my primary care doctor for about 3 years. I also go to the dentist every 6 months, my eye doc once a year, and my hairdresser every 6-7 weeks, LOL~ :) And yeah, look who is talking miss I missed my check-up appoitment!!!

Arista- Ugh, finals-I feel for you! I think I have kind of figured out my tummy- I think it's that I go from eating lots of fiber monday-friday then next to none on the weekends so I get backed up over the weekend so my tummy hurts when I start eating fiber again on Monday. I have decided to start eating like a south beach pizza for one meal each day on the weekend (they have like 15g fiber) and a big spinach salad too...so, we'll see if that helps. :) Oh, and my mental health day was awesome & today flew by...hopefully the rest of the week will too! I would give you advice on the wedding but I've never been married... i do know that my brother & sister-in-law got married in Mexico & we all went there & stayed at all inclusive place for like 5 days then they stayed a little longer just the two of them. They were so happy we did that instead of huge expensive wedding...sure that doesn't help any, sorry!

August- So it is cold again huh? Did you have a nice nap on the couch today? I love your new icons for us! You always bring a smile to my face!

Mariah- What beach body cardio did you watch? I have lots of dvd's from beach body & love all of them, besides Cathe they are my next favorite place to order! Oh, just saw your post that you ordered something from them...is the Power 90 series you got? From your description of it that sounds like it could be?? My tummy is feeling better today, keep your fingers crossed it stays this way! My boss had lasix surgery on her eyes & loves it... I wear contacts too but so far so good & they never bother me but if I ever start having problems I'd for sure look into lasix...keep us posted! LMAO at your blind date story...too funny!

Shelley- Hey, the more things you can do in your PJs the better in my book! ;-) If I could get away with wearing them to work I would!

Robin- Sounds like your drive to work was horrible! Was the drive home better hopefully? Were you able to hijack the computer today, LOL!!!

Becky- Good thing I don't bake or cook, that coffeecake sounds so good...i'm sure I'd eat the whole thing!

Dana- Oh, you will love the baby BLTs!! Now, I haven't made them myself but the girl that did gave me that recipe & I tried the ones she made & all I can say is YUMO! Like you said, I haven't steered you wrong yet, LOL! Once you try the LC BBQ chicken pizza let me know what you think!

Diane- Congrats on the IPOD, that is awesome & you deserve it! Enjoy & take a day off too...:)

MSY, Heather, Kara, Deb, Briee - Hello... did I miss somebody? I'll have to check....

okay, this took about 30 minutes to post so hopefully I didn't miss anything but I was booking through the posts so very sorry if I did.

Off to hunt for food! ;)

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Almost bedtime. Yay, I'm beat. I got home - the drive was much better than this morning with blue skies and sunshine - did KP&C and painted. All that's left is a second coat on the window trim.

Jen, I hope you've figured out the tummy problem. LOL about letting us know your appointments!

Diane, great gift! I agree that you should take at least a weekend trip before the bean is born. Everything changes after that, in a good way, but you'll be tired and neither of you will have the time or energy to focus on the other one.

Michele, we had a small honeymoon too. We got married in the eastern part of PA and were moving to the Pittsburgh area to live, so we stopped in Gettysburg and spent to weekend there. We had met at a small Penn State branch campus in that same area, so it was kind of like coming home.

Arista, spend your money on the honeymoon, not the wedding. Weddings are so outrageous and expensive these days. You can get a cruise or all inclusive tropical vacation for a fairly reasonable amount. I'm not sure it's a good idea to ask the guests to pay for it though. A house or furniture is a better idea.

Mariah, your date story had me cringing. I'm so glad to not be playing that game. I remember when my SIL got divorced and started dating. She was trying all kinds of things to meet guys. I guess it worked though, because she got remarried and seems happy. I just as soon skip men if and when I lose my DH. If my DH dies before me, my sister and I have decided to live together.

Heather, I'll be seeing you in NJ in August.

Dana, a new truck and no treadmill. I'd have a serious problem with that. Hey girlie girl. Next week is supposed to be spring. Any evenings free to meet and walk somewhere? Montour Preserve? Let me know when you want to do it!

Hi to Becky, Corrie, Kara, August, Shelley, Terri and anyone else. I'm really tired and it's past my bedtime. See you tomarrow.

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

Hello all!

Thanks for the advice on the wedding and honeymoon. But here's the deal. We have NO money. The wedding is definitely going to be ultra-simple. I'm having my wedding dress made and my best friend is doing the cake and flowers. I'm a country girl, so the wedding will be practically free. My dad has offered to help with some of the expenses.

But I think the honeymoon is important since that's probably what we'll remember (and we really need a vacation). We won't be doing anything extravagant, we just want to lay on the beach and forget about life for a week! He's not in touch with his family, so they definitely won't be helping us with the honeymoon. But maybe we could lay on a cheap beach? lol

But I do like the money for a down payment on a home idea as a wedding gift. And I really liked that putting a pic of the furniture they bought in the thank you cards. We'll put a pic our house in there instead! Very cool.

Yeah, I guess we'll just have to save up for the honeymoon and do the best we can.

Sorry to check in and out so fast, but its my night off and we're about to go out and do something fun! I hope you guys had great days, talk to you tomorrow!

Jen - I like your tummy theory. I hope the consistent eating works better for you. I also read today that probiotics (yogurt) can really help people with IBS. Do you eat cultured products like yogurt?

RE: I Love Road Trip Joy!!!

One of my favorite places is Gettysburg
so much so that when my kids would have a few days off from school and id say great lets ....... they would stop me and in unison (all three of them) say "Oh No!! not Gettysburg again"
And that blind date story is about 10 years old
I hope to have another some day in my life and ill be sure to report
all the details LOL
