Ladies, as always, thank you SO much for your responses and suggestions.
Steppin out, 5$footlong (love your name
) and Dorothyrd, I guess it just depends on the individual cat if the soft paws will work or not. When the groomer first recommended them, I was so excited to try them and then when I read more about them and knowing how difficult my cat is, I wasn't sure they would work. I'm glad for those who they work for. I'll still have to think more about it but as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I wish I could trim her nails myself as I could keep on top of them more frequently but I have to have the groomer do it.
Kathryn, ITA about a tall scratch post. I bought something for her awhile back that had the different textures on it but she didn't like it. I think I have to try something like the one you recommended. I was trying to save the $$$ as I've been out of work and things are tight but I guess compared to shredding the furniture, I have to consider it. We have some discount stores locally so I'll see which ones they have and at least I can return it if need be.
Linda, that cat scratcher/lounge looks great. I've actually had something similar for her that she loved. I was thinking along the lines of getting something where she could stretch upwards and scratch. I bought her an incline scratcher that she can't get enough of but apparently doesn't satisfy her need for full extension. *sigh*
JulesMT, I was looking for slipcovers for the chairs and haven't been able to find anything that looked good and that would fit our chairs. After seeing what's out there, finding something for my couch may be equally as challenging. Plus, they are so gosh darn expensive that I don't think I could afford them - not that sheets are a great alternative but at least they're covered. Thank goodness I don't have much company over.
Traildoggie, I've tried the double sided tape on my chairs. It worked o.k. but then my lovely cat decided to chew at the tape......constantly! Ugh!!!
As I've mentioned in earlier posts, this cat has been a challenge. She was a stray and even though I really wasn't ready for a cat, I took her in. She desperately wants to be outdoors and that can't happen where I live, plus, I personally would have a hard time having an outdoor cat. I know she's very unhappy about this. She's also the most fussy cat for eating. I know cats can be notorious for this but she's taken it to a whole new level. I'm trying to keep her uncontrollable shedding for months under control. I received some great suggestions from you ladies about that. And now, of course, I have to deal with the clawing of furniture. I know one of you ladies here would LOVE to have an additional kitty in your family but none of you live near me....or do you?
She's actually quite a nice cat, otherwise, with a fun personality. I have been casually asking people if they would want a kitty but no bites yet. There are days I wish she had a new home and other days where I want things to work out. I suppose if she were mean on top of all of this, then I would have an easier time wanting to part with her. I'm just conflicted.
Sorry for the long post but thanks for all of your suggestions.
