Has anyone taken the Real estate pre-licensing course?

I am thinking about taking the class and was wondering what anyone thought of the class? How is the exam? I was told that there is a CD you can get that is 400 questions that will help you pass the test. Has anyone heard of this?

Sorry for all the questions but I need some information.

Are you talking about the national, or the state? I'm licensed in the state of MN, but it's been 3 years since I had to take any tests (other than continuing education)...You can e-mail me off forum if you'd like, or I'm on yahoo IM

I have a RE license - tried being an agent but it just wasn't for me. The course is fine, the test is hard. Many people fail the first time, I passed but just by the skin of my teeth. The nat'l exam wasn't too bad, it was the state exam that was tricky, and supposedly my states laws are pretty straight forward compared to other states. California's is really tough, from what I hear. I didn't use the CD, I believe it has all the questions that the text book has. The text book has lots of practice quizzes which were really helpful.

I am taking my state test tomorrow in MI. You are required to have 40 classroom hours of instruction before you can take the state test. No test taken in the classroom.

I use www.examsmart.com. There are 110 questions I think and you need a 70% passing rate. I don't plan on passing the first time. I struggle (suck) with math.

MJ-I am looking at the state one. I was not sure where to start with this.

CurlyQ-I have heard the state test is hard too. Have not heard anything about the National one though. I am not sure how far I want to go. I have been told 3 times in the last 2 weeks that I would be good at it so I thought I would give it a shot. We'll see.

Dawn-Good luck on your state test tomorrow. Post back and tell me what you thought of the test. I will check out the website you posted too. Thanks.

Sabrina (and Dawn, too!!), I'm going to tell you something and you're going to laugh...And then totally freak out....

The BEST agents that I've ever met, have been the ones that FAIL the exam...Book world and real world are two totally different animals...I personally failed the national 2x's (yes, paid to take it 3x's) and the state once...I've had a GREAT career, but sometimes tend to "walk the line" for my clients...I will NEVER do anything to even have a SMIDGEN of a doubt that I should do something else...

Again, feel free to contact me oof forum with any further questions!

Sabrina, thanks for bringing this up. I've always been curious about this myself.

MJ, I didn't know you were in real estate. How did you start? How much time does it take you away from your family? I'm very curious. Real estate is another one of my interests. I love houses. I love talking to inspectors, for some odd reason. I love just going into model homes to see layouts, decor, and reading about the companies that develop the areas. This is another avenue I know I could pursue once my boy is much older and I can have more time to myself. I hope you get the chance to e-mail me, if possible. Thanks.

Pinky-I just filled out the paper, made out the check, and mailed it. I am scared to death!! lol! I have been a SAHM for over 10 years.

MJ-I would love to hear more too if you don't mind. I am not sure what questions to even ask. I start classes Nov 3rd. I imagine I will have tons of questions to ask when I start if that is ok? :)

Good luck, Sabrina. It never hurts to try. And I know you can do it.:) Hard to believe you've been a SAHM for 10 years, twice as long as I have. You look so young! You ARE young!:) Keep us posted. I'm real interested to see if I can go down this path one day. And there's always personal training... but I'm not so sure about that one.

Pinky

GOOD LUCK IVE BEEN THINKING OF THIS MY SELF IM 26, ALSO A SAHM AND THIS IS SOMETHING IVE BEEN CONSIDERING. LET US KNOW.

Hey there, all! I LOVE my job!!!

I can work from home (I'm sure you've all been hearing of my "jammies" days in the past few weeks), I can work when my daughter's at her dad's, I can work with a phone in my ear pulling weeds in the garden, I can work taking the dog for a walk, I can work when my daughter's home from school (sick, or teachers day), I can work from the cabin... But, I ALSO am on the computer at 12:15am deciding which homes to show tomorrow night 2 hours from home (won't be home 'till at least 10 pm). I've got clients spending the night at my house on Sunday night to "do the right thing", etc....It depends on what you want from your life...For me, this was a life choice...Almost like working for the Salvation Army...I do MANY things for my clients because it's the right thing to do, not because it's "acceptable" in my business...I've had people in real estate in awe, and many laugh at the way I do business...But after the few years I've been in, 90% of my business is repeat and referral...Good stats, huh??

I really don't want to tie the boards up with this...If anyone has any questions for me...I'm at [email protected] (same ID for IM)

I PASSED THE TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!

You can do it Sabrina and anyone else thinking of doing it. And I am a total numbnut at math. I took my time. 135 quesitons and you had to get 71%. Took two hours/scheduled for three.

Went to the mall and bought some new make up to celebrate.

Tomorrow I start a class for two hours in the morning at the new Century 21 office.

I will keep you posted!! Thanks for all the good thoughts!
