has anyone take a civil svc exam?

Here in TN, it's very hard to get an office job right now. I think there were a few in 2010. I only had 2 get back to me, one I didn't get (too far anyway) and the other one contacted me. For that job, I am going in to take a civil service test so I can work for the city. I'd love this job, and it's a great opportunity, but it will be me and about half of Knoxville taking that test. It looks like I have to take a typing test (no prob. - scored 99% on an online test) and then there's administrative procedures, office procedures, reading comp, business English, written communication, and computer usage. I would think I would do really well but am not sure if there's more to it. They said you have to be in the top 5% just to get an interview. So of course I am worried. Did anyone take this test before and can you tell me about it? It's for a principal secretary for the city.

PS I really need this job, if not, a job, so for those that pray, please say a prayer for me - the test is a week from this Tuesday.

I took a CS test years ago, so I'm sure it's quite different now! Good luck! I'll think about you and send positive energy and prayers your way!

The job market is so tough these days! My DH was laid off last December, so we are very familiar with the hassle and difficulty! He's put in more resumes than I can count now and hasn't even had a single response!

So, I really hope you get this!

Yes, it's very different times were living in now. I use to be able to get a job with no problem - but there are none to even go for. I think there were 5 lajit jobs since the new year. but, yes - any positive thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. thanks. - a
