Has anyone started Christmas shopping yet?

Yeah, yeah, I know! :p

I bought my first gifts yesterday. I'm excited because I actually have ideas for my SO this year (he's the WORST to buy for). I have no idea what to get my DD though. Any ideas for a 10 year old girl?

I did Shelley - I started a few weeks back. It seems to lessen the financial burden when I spread it out over a few months - not to mention the time contraints are easier. My 9-y.o. DD is just a high school musical fanatic - so that gives me some guidance.

Forgive me, but I am quite sick of the overly commercialized Giftmas "holiday" and am disappointed but not the least bit surprised to see that now that Labor Day is over (and no, summer is NOT over) that Giftmas decorations and such are already on store shelves. So no, no shopping unless it is for ME ME ME ME ME.

Yep, I've started. I like to pick up gifts as I see them. I bought 2 levi jean jackets last may just because they were on clearance and I knew they would make good gifts for 2 nephews. I always try to start way early because we have such a big family. I am right beside you in your thinking Beavs but I still have to buy the gifts so I just start really early.

As much as I would like to go with Beavs' line of thinking, I still have to buy gifts for people. Thankfully, I don't have many people to buy for. My parents think a lot like Beavs, so that makes it really easy.

It's the in-laws and the DH that throw a wrench in things. DH is impossible to shop for. IMPOSSIBLE! Everything that he wants, he just goes and buys himself. So what can I possibly get for him that he'll appreciate? Nothing. Next time he buys himself a new gadget (*cough cough* the iPod Touch he just preordered *cough*), I'll tell him that is his Christmas gift from me. The money comes out of the same bank account, so why not? :p ;)

End Rant.

As for what to get Miss Sophie... well, I already gave you my suggestion. :D

Christmas? Did I miss Halloween?! Makes me feel like my life is flying by at top speed. I guess soon we will be hearing all about the economy and how the stores are doing. For many years we lived in India where at Christmas the neighbors would go to each others' houses and exchange a plate of sweets that were homemade. No stress, no bills and no feelings of supporting the local mall. Sorry if I sound negative but sometimes I feel so sad watching people who have worked so hard for their money buying cheap stuff that will be broken before the holiday is over. Let's remember the Walmart family are billionaires.

I started shopping in August. My motivation is to spread out the purchases and pay in cash, so that I have no credit card debt after the holidays. My first purchase was a Wii and it's wrapped and paid for :)

Shelley,
A few years ago, I gave my nephews this kit that was a "make your own book" kit. You wrote the story, did the illustrations and mailed it in a pre-paid envelope to the manufacturer and had it bound and made into a book. My sister-in-law (whom I dislike greatly) said the boys loved it, but I'm not even sure that she followed through with it. Anyway, I'm not sure the exact name of it, but if you think Sophie would like it, you probably could do a search on google or amazon.com. It was really reasonable -- $25. I don't know if she's into writing or not, but I thought it was a great gift idea. Just a thought...

not yet, i am trying to get through some rough spots. but mentioned it really eases the burden(time and money wise) to start early and we usually do. i have really decided to remain as firm as possible with dh that i will not really be doing anything for the adults. i want as much money saved up for a trip to NJ. i think being with my grandmother going through my grandfather's favorite holiday without him,is more important then if my MIL gets a new toaster. i will shop for 3 kids and maybe make something for relatives(a basket of goodies for the whole family sort of thing) but i certainly will not be going out of my way this year. it took months to get out of that hole anyway. we are still paying off the enormous best buy bill that can't seem to get below $1000 :-(

but back to your question-gift cards! visa gift cards and maybe some clothes. i am not a big tech freak so i don't know what they are into but i know i lvoe gift cards and clothes and have since pre-teen years LOL. my mom decorates bags real fancy and puts different gift cards for different places last year she did a stocking. something so simple yet a little elbow grease on the package makes pleasing to the eye

OMG!!! i noticed this in dollar general. i haven't even figured out field trips for september let alone a halloween costume(thinking of enlisting my mom's help in making one for viola)and i have to have christmas in my face.

i think the only real adult i want to get a gift for is grandma and thats a trip to see her during this difficult time.we lost pops april 6th and christmas was one of his favorite holidays. all he ever wanted was for everybody to be together to enjoy a good meal and a little spirit of the season. besides any extra money i do save that i won't need can go to better causes like toys for tots etc. give it to those that need it.

No, I haven't started shopping yet, but I really need to. I am definitely trying to think what I want to get people.

My son is 2 1/2 and he will really "get" Santa Clause this year, so it has to be memorable. I want him to get fun stuff from Santa, and then Mommy will give him money for his college fund.

My birthday is just before Christmas so I will not shop until Dec. 1 and it must snow at least once by then where I live (it usually does).
Don't rush it-enjoy the end of summer and Autumn just around the corner.
Sorry, it's a hard reminder that I will be another year older,

My mom is done; I'm going low-key this year and we saw some artwork at a show so we got it for her already. Then I found something else up her alley and it was on sale for a really good price so I got that before it went away completely. :D

I have *my* list ready and waiting, but everything else will take a few months.

I can't remember what Kassia likes, but one of my favorite Halloween costumes was being a Purple People Eater! }( :p Purple is/was my fave... basically, everything purple, purple face paint, and a purple cape. :7 }( :7 :+

As for Sophie, she loves to read, doesn't she? Or is it just HP? Has she read the Redwall series? There are a ton of those. And all the girly stuff... :D :*

I have not started shopping for anyone yet but I have told some of my family what I want and of course it was Cathe videos. I asked for the 4 dvd bundle which has bootcamp+muscle endurance, imax2+cardio and weights, the terminator and pyramid upper and lower body. I will also be asking for other videos like step jump and pump and with the new workout s I preordered I will have a well rounded Cathe collection. I adore here workouts and for once I feel like in my whole life I will be looking forward to winter and not dreading the inactivity that those cold nights seem to induce, now I don't have excuses all I have to do is go downstairs.
My birthday is on Nov. 14th so I am going to ask for heavy weights, 12, 10s and probably 35s because right now I have 5, 8, 15, and 25.
Anyway I was just talking about this today with my aunt so just talking to you all right now about it makes it extra exciting.

Beavs - I'm not planning on putting my tree up just yet ;) But I have a big list and it's a pretty hard hit if I do it all in December.

I LOVE the write your own book idea! I'm definitely going to look into that. Today she informed me that she'd like a cell phone and a computer for her room. Uh huh.:p

Oh I can only dream. The year I start shopping in September will be the year the earth stops turning. Some day maybe I will be able to plan ahead and not last minute shop, but for now I will muttle through sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The official start to my Christmas shopping season begins with this huge fair that comes to this area every year. This translates to the commencement of the shrinking wallet in......2 days! As far as what to get your DD, I know my 11 year old niece wants a pair of those sneakers that have the rollers on them. I know there's a name for them but I'm not hip enough to remember it offhand. x(
