Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in such a long time but I am still around.I figured I should throw this question out to you guys..."the well educated crowd" as one smart cookie says.
Any hoo, I got married a year ago Sunday comming,I have been off of the birthcontrol pill for over a year now.Not because I was trying to have a baby but my periods kinda got all screwie. So I took a break.
Last month my period was a full week late.I had to do 3 test cause I thought that I could be pregnate and they were all negative. My periods are never late.
And here I am another month later and now my period being 9 days late from when I normally start and 2 days later then the last one.And once again I am not with child....
Does ANYONE have any advice on this topic? Has anything simalar happened to anyone else? I know I should go to the Doc but he usually doesn't do anything until about 3 monthes of this and the doctors are on strike here. So I can't go down to the emergency room.
I haven't changed my work out or my eating patterens. And now we were thinking about having a baby and how am I suppose to figure out when I am ovulating when I can't even figure out when I am going to be starting my period?
Anyway, any advice would be great. You guys are always so smart with your answers.
Oh, by the way...I can't WAIT for the new work out videos.I am sssoooo excited.
Thanks, Lori

Hi Lori

Can I say it could be coming off the birth control and your body is still getting itself back together. Also my periods have always been all over the place and there quite naturally and my sister who turned 40 in August has had her periods change.

Also very excited about the new vids :-jumpy .

Weird timing of this post - Lori, I think I found yours sometime last week!

After some 27 years of being as regular as a Swiss watch, Aunt Flo arrived a full 9 days early for me a couple of weeks ago, and she never left! Just went on and on, until the actual due date came and went, and she stayed for her "scheduled visit" too!

I haven't used a medicinal birth control method in over 20 years, so I have to think that this is my Intro To The Forties! Don't mind the actual "visits" so much as the energy / mood disruptions that sometimes happen pre-visit.

My answer, Lori, was about as helpful as a screen door on a submarine, wasn't it?

My periods have been regular since I came off of the pill, it is just the last 2 monthes.I stopped taking the pill Sept 2001.I am having the mood swings but no period.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-02 AT 09:10AM (Est)[p]I took the pill for just a couple of years and stopped it in March of 97. My periods started up fine and I had no problems. Then toward the end of the summer I didn't start. Now I'm never a set number of days. My cycle can be anywhere from 28 days to 38 days. BUT, I didn't start and I didn't start and I didn't start and finally just totally skipped a period. I NEVER DO THAT. I went to the doctor and he said I was pregnant...I was not. He gave me a hormone to start my period and it did. The next go around I didn't start...again!!! Pregnancy test negative again and he gave me hormones again. I think I did that about 3 or 4 times and then they got back on track. Weird! We started around that time trying to get pregnant and I wasn't pregnant until June of the next year! So maybe it is a delayed reaction to taking the pill!

Hi Lori,
Don't you think the best way to figure this out is to consult an OB/GYN? Not all the docs around your area are on strike, are they?

Hi Lori:Maybe you should have your thyroid level checked.Sometimes when our levels are off it can effect our periods causing them to stop or to be infrequent.

Hi Lori!

I don't know what could be making you so irregular, you did state that your periods were screwie on the pill as well. I am typically irregular, so I don't really even count days anymore!

I did want to address your question about how you will know when you are ovulating. You need to talk with your OB. Mine put me on Chlomed (SP?), basically it regulates you so you know when you are ovulating. Worked for me twice now, and I'm sure we will use it next time as well.... But if you are trying to get pregnant, go talk to your doctor NOW. On our first baby we tried for a year before I went to the doctor, if we would have went right away we could have avoided a year of frustration...

Hope this helps....Lynn

I have no great advice for you but certainly empathize. I went off the pill in Feb. in hopes of getting pregnant. We started "trying' in April but have had no luck. I blame irregular periods my periods have been anywhere from 25 days to 45 days. I've ordered the book taking charge of your fertility which numerous people recommended.(best price is on half.com.) I am hoping it will help me figure out why my period is so nuts. Hopefully your Ob is not on strike. I have an apt. with mine on Oct. 22 partly to discuss my crazy periods. I'll let you know what my doc says.

Lori..

My sis has had this problem before and with her it was from too much exercise and not enough food. It is the combo of those two that will affect your period.

Being completly honest with yourself.. Are you SURE you have not changed your exercise frequency?? Even if you have not, I think you should look towards something kindof opposite of what the others here are saying. This is what I mean..

My sister has been on the BCP for a long time and recently went off as well. Well, it takes a while for the pill hormones to exit you body. They sortof "regulate" you. For a time, she experienced regular periods..this was the "hormone" effect still in her body. But after that wore off she began experiencing some inconsistencies and some amhenorrhea (sp?). She still does, it did not go away until she upped her calories..specifically her carbs and stopped exercising like crazy. I think your condition may have been there before you went off the pill, but the hormones were masking it.

With my sis, she did not want to admit it, but her weight had dropped too low for her body and her fat % was way down. She did too much cardio and did not eat enough. This may be your problem. I have noticed other posts from you where you speak of doing several workouts in one day. Please try to look at this truthfully and see if this may be your problem. If it is, it can affect your ability to have children as well as cause early osteoporosis.

Please don't take offense. This might not be your problem. It just sounded awfully familiar...

Good Luck..

Janice

No answers, just another problem: tomorrow I'm seeing a nurse practitioner for it. Mine is, having my period 10 days after my last one. I'm 43. Up to now, I've been regular. I thought it was just regular old menopause starting, but friends and a medical advice book all said to call the doc. We'll see what they say.

Meanwhile I want to eat a big steak tonight, you know, to replace all that lost iron! The Outback (a restaurant), perhaps?! :)

Well, no offense taken but I can assure you that this is not my problem.I am 5'4" and weigh 125.My weight is average.I only do cardio about 6 days a week for about 40 min and may do 2 total body weight tapes per week.I eat around 1500-1800 cals a day.
I only do one work out most days.If I feel energetic in the evenings then I may go for a walk or a run.But rest assure that I listen to my body.if it needs a rest, I takes one, if I am tired ,I sleep,if I am hungry ,I eat.I don't have enough will power to deprive my body of the nutrients that it needs to stay healthy.( not that I would want to)
Thanks for your advice but I don't think that that is my problem...honestly.
