Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Tues. July 25

I may get myself in trouble for DARING to doubt Oprah and her trainer, but here I go. Oprah has never been able to keep her weight down, even with Bob Greene and his bag of tricks for all these years.

Oprah has said she hates exercise - Oprah, IMO, has never learned how to make exercise fun, and he has not encouraged that premise. She never goes for an eating plan with any flexibilty - it's always giving up this or that forever. For instance, one time she said she knows she could NEVER eat sugar. Come on now - who can live like that? I wonder if Dr. Phil has ever said to her, "How's that workin' for you?"

She had Kirsty Alley (forgive me if I can't spell her name!) on to talk about her workouts (she uses no trainer!) which consist of DANCING, which is FUN!!!! Oprah, yep, exercise CAN be fun. I'll shut up now.

Honeybunch - thanks for your 2 cents. I only saw part of that show last night and that's what flabbergasted me cuz I never heard that before. I thought whole wheat was okay. It's hard enough trying to find whole wheat rolls from my bakery -- let alone whole grain. I also agree about Oprah and her weight. I don't think she's God-like or anything, but I do like to listen to what the "so called experts" have to say about nutrition. NOt long ago, she had someone else on there and I learned that "dry roasted" nuts are not good for you cuz all of the good oils are sucked out of them and I think they might have even said they are hydrogenated....can't remember, but I promptly gave up dry roasted nuts.

Well if I couldn't eat Whole Wheat stuff, I would cry! But, I changed everything to WW from white, and that was all it took to break through my plateau. I love it now, won't eat white.
I just did PLB and then cardio from C&W. Seriously, I am fried. I don't know if I could ever have the stamina that you must have Diana Sue!LOL!!
My rotation called for 50 min of cardio, but C&W was about 30. My legs were REALLY tired today so, if I pushed a little harder I probably could have done another 20, but I was also limited on time. I wanted to shower and eat before the boys wake up from their nap.
You guys are seriously making me want to get a bike. My husband and I were looking at some mountain bikes at Walmart the other day. I was glad he showed interest in riding. I haven't been able to get him to WO with me yet, but I hope too.

What is your opinions about splitting workouts, cardio in AM , weights later? I always try to get it done at one time, but sometimes that doesn't work with my 2 little guys. Just wondering what you guys think.

Diane Sue - how long is your typical cardio workout?

Honeybunches - I agree about Oprah. Sometimes she just gets on my nerves about certain things. And I HATE the way she repeats her comments. "You felt bad while eating that donut." "You felt bad." Hello? We heard you the first time!

Charlotte,

I'll work on getting some pics up. Feeding bears... I would be really scared of that! It sounds really nice where you live. I love wildlife and nature, I guess those two go together. I'm gonna go look at some bikes this weekend!

Meaghan - it is funny how the ideas and interests of others on this forum get us motivated to try different things isn't it. The inspiration from the ladies here is wonderful! I would also be interested in the split routine of a.m. and p.m. w/o! If you try it let me know how it works for you!

I'm off to the Y tonight, gonna try and work hard tonight as I really need it!!!:7

:)

Debbie, I typically do 1 hr of cardio 5-6 days a week. Sometimes on Saturday if I have went over an hour a day I will shorten my cardio.

Lora, that's funny about dry roasted nuts. I have read labels and it always appeared to me that both had the same amount of fat. Anyway I prefer to get my nuts around the fresh fruit & vegitable area, usually in baggies or tubs. These generally are roasted and not salted. One of my favorite breads is Food For Life brand. I can only get it if I go to the health food store here. That is the closest place. Most stores sell it frozen. They make good english muffins as well. I bought the sprouted wheat ones when I was following P90X and ate them with soy sausage. The main reason I don't eat bread often though is because I don't want to stop till the loaf is gone. Panerea bread sells some good low carb bread and others. Oh, and I answered about the raspberry vinegrette but I guessed you missed it. I just purchase it checking for the lowest sodium and fat one. The one I have right now is Ken's Steakhouse.

Meaghan, I think it is fine to split your workout and I am sure you will still get the same results. I have done this off and on. I just prefer doing it all at once so I don't get sidetracked later in the day with other things.

Sandy, I would love to see some pictures.

I used to think Ophrah's weight loss success wa great, but after so many times of her yo yoing I just don't pay much attention to her latest efforts. Eating has to allow some enjoyment or people will generally burn out somewhere. And yes exercise has to be fun to keep motivated.

I could swear someone said they made their own Raspberry Vinagarette. I must be going crazy. I currently use the Ken's Steakhouse one also.

Hello Ladies!

Wow - this thread is long today. I had a few minutes so thought I'd pop in. This morning was a bike ride (I know, what a surprise) with 3 girlfriends. One of them got a flat - AGAIN - she had one yesterday and also last week - makes me late for work b/c I can't ditch her! Not sure what's going on with her tire. Hmmm...look at the scenery while riding? I'm usually doing everything in my power to just breathe let alone look at scenery. :p If I ride alone I do enjoy the scenery, but it is so rare that I ride alone anymore. Sometimes I miss it, but I enjoy the company of my friends too.

Speaking of wildlife, we live out in the country (although some people say Cheyenne IS the country) and a guy who lives across the highway feeds the coyotes! Can you believe that? It just so happens that he teaches CPR classes for us and he was in my office one day telling me about this. That's just nuts! We have a lot of foxes around and a foxhole at the bottom of our road. In the mornings when I get back from my rides, one of them is out kicking back on the dirt mound on top of their hole. Adorable!

Sandy - just know that if you buy a bike from Wal-Mart, they are not made very well. A gal I work with bought one this year and they just don't shift as well and they weigh a ton. She is going to save up to buy a nicer one next spring. You might want to check eBay to see what they have. DH has purchased bikes off of eBay. My sister just purchased her first road bike and it's a Trek and it was around $600 (from the local bike shop). It most certainly IS addicting. And your butt does get used to it. Although one of my girlfriends just got back from a 6 day, 350 mile ride and she has some saddle sores on her hoo ha. OUCH! But she still rode this morning. I do get saddle sores sometimes if I ride more than about 45 miles. But that's what Butt Butter is for, right Netta?

Hi to everyone else! Thanks for the continued motivation. I just ate a donut. At 4pm! x( They just picked up dozens and dozens for the Thunderbirds Air Show tomorrow (yuk - they won't be fresh) and I just so happened to be starving when they walked in. Lesson: don't ever let yourself get that hungry.

Lora,
I just researched Raspberry Vinegrette recipes. I found one I would like to try. It is 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 cup rice wine vinegar (seasoned)?? 1 10oz jar seedless raspberry jam. Process till smooth. I can see trying to get all fruit preserves and maybe adjusting the oil down a little and upping the vinegar. I currently have some rice wine vinegar. Maybe some red wine vinegar would work. I am going to try this.
