Cathlete
Morning Fitness Maniacs -

Again I didn't want to crawl out of bed, but I did. I did a somewhat easier workout today. I'm sort of sore all over and since I don't really take a total day off, I figured this was okay today. I did 1/2 hour of Seasun's Straight Up Step and 45 minutes of Yoga Shakti. I chose my own program. I did Namaskar A&B, Dancing Warriors 1 & 4, Standing Flow 1, Supine Poses, Forward Bending and Twisting and Savasana. It was an okay workout but actually felt very easy after doing that tough Mark Blanchard yoga the other day. I thought her sequences actually went a little slow ...or was that just me today? Maybe I'm just used to the crazy pace Eion gets moving sometimes. He really flies thru his sun salutations some times.

Okay, I still can't decide on a rotation, but I know that part of the reason I'm so depressed lately (besides PMS) is cuz I need to lose some weight and I'm disgusted with myself. The only thing I did recently with my diet is make a few tweaks here and there (for the better)...so I don't know what's going on. Maybe I'll wait until Cathe posts the June rotation to start one and if I don't like the one she posts, maybe I'll have to force myself to chose one some how!

Diana Sue - I'm a little confused with the advice you gave me yesterday. What are you saying? Are you saying that if doing an interval workout on the bike is REALLY hard for me, I should do more of that? or if the Bosu is really hard for me, do more of that? Those are the aerobic things that are hard....but I don't know what to do with weights. I've been sort of mixing that up lately and doing a circuit workout sometimes, a high rep workout and a heavier workout with less reps. What I haven't done with weights lately is a split (like using the Gym Styles or P90 X). I'm concerned that if I do that, I won't be able to fit in enough aerobics....so I'm still confused on what to do. I'm being over analytical....aren't I. I tend to complicate things. I hate this trait in myself. Ugh...I'll shut up now. (Do you think I should consider doing a P90X rotation, or is that not enough for fatloss?....I'm so confused). Also - do you ever do aerobics with your heartrate in that lower range...like 70-75% like that one rotation showed that I posted the other day? I usually only do my aerobics at my hardest capacity. Do you think I should do some easier ones?

Netta - You ask what brings me out of my slump? Buying exercise DVDs and eating chocolate!! LOL!! But I have soooooooo many DVDs and I certainly don't need chocolate. I guess it's just PMS and my disease getting to me. I'm having a hard time with life right now.

Suz - Yes, yoga is very stretching and can be strenghtening when you get to some of the more advanced stuff. Have you never done yoga before? If that is the case, you may want to check out www.yogajournal.com and familiarize yourself with some of the sanskrit names of the poses cuz I think Shiva uses them in her DVD (mainly). ...or you can just keep looking at her on the TV constantly to follow. You'll get the hang of it. It stretches out like no other 15 minute stretch tape can!!

Charlotte - Did you get a chance to listen to anything yet? You'll hve to PM me after you hear Sir Psycho Sexy and tell me what you think of that one! Also - let me know how you like Blood Sugar for working out to it. It's one of my fave's for pumping iron or doing aerobics. I was just upstairs rockin' out to it getting ready for work.

Well, I hope I answered everyone's questions. If I missed someone ...I'm sorry. Hi to everyone and have great workouts. I'll check in later from work.

Good Morning Maniacs!!

Well yesterday all I had time for was a 4 mile bike ride. I could have went earlier, but it was just when hubby would be home and if I did go then, I would have not seen him then it was getting close to getting dark. The farmer came over too and plowed our garden. You would not believe how many rocks are in there again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last year, it took me 2 weeks to get them all out so I figured there would not be as much this time...WRONG!!!!!! It is suppose to be hubby's project, but he will need help. It is getting late to get the garden in as most people already have stuff growing in theirs by now.

Well my workout was not very intense and I was experimenting with my meals yesterday. I have been eating about 4 meals a day instead of 5-6 like I use to cuz of works schedule so I ate my tuna yesterday with protein bar around 3 which would have brought me to 5 meals. Had three tacos last night for dinner, but it was around 7pm since the farmer put me behind with dinner. I gained 3 pounds this morning according to scale. Hate when I screw up like this...think it was dinner time being too late to eat and I did not have an intense workout so I plan on losing it again today. Workouts will be SS and Coremax 3 after work.

Lora,

So no, have not had time to listen to anything else yet. When I get home I will.

Oh I forgot. I ordered a water pillow by Mediflow from Amazon. I saw a thread in Open Discussion where someone said they had disc problems and it helped immensely. I also read reviews on Amazon and it's supposed to be good for people who suffer from migraines. Anyone ever here of these? I guess I got mine for half of the price they charge at a chiropractor's office for them.

Lora, yes on the cardios do more of those maybe do them every other day and if you feel it is necessary add some other cardio on the in between days. If you haven't done a split in awhile that would be something to look at. Do you keep logs so you can look at what you have done? I will sometimes make a note on mine if I have noticed improvement in a certain area. That way I can figure out what to incorporate next. How about a P90X lean rotation as outlined in the book that came with the program? Maybe you could stick with a slower heavier workout with plenty of intense cardio. The GS series would be good for that. As far as heartrate I don't keep track because I don't have a HR monitor. The only time I check is when I use the chest band that came with my treadmill. I go more by level of exertion, I do like to do a lower intensity cardio once in awhile. I find myself trying to add propulsions to some workouts though out of habit though.

Good Morning,
I am doing a pre check in again. My plans are Bowflex & Free weights Back, Shoulders and Biceps. I think I am going to run on the treadmill. DH and I are going to see a movie this afternoon. It will be either Failure to Launch or RV. Depending on what time we can go. I will check back later.

Good morning,

Today's workout was Bryan Kest's Power Yoga #2. Feel really good this morning. Have errands to do after work, we're going camping this weekend (also my century bike ride) so have to do some shopping, fuel up the truck, etc. Helped my DH on the Bowflex/free weights last night. I had him weigh himself this morning. He's down another pound. I only have him weigh himself once a week so he can tell if he's on track. I'm so proud of him. He's not doing any cardio, just the Bowflex but is pretty active at work. He's cut down on his beer, but I don't picture him giving it up totally. I'm just pleased he's sticking with this. His goal weight is probably about 8 pounds away.

Lora, I checked out the Seasun Zieger clip. It looks good, different cueing and terms so I know there will be a learning curve. Actually, I'm not so much into the athletic moves so the dancy stuff I like. Guess that's why I like Rhythmic Step so much. I was thinking about all the cardio you do...have you tried not doing so much? I've finally been able to lose a little by not doing so many cardio workouts in the morning and riding my bike more intensely a few times a week. My weight and body fat is pretty much where I like it now, after months of Imaxes and harder cardio not doing really what I wanted. Strange, huh? Chocolate, don't get me going on that, I LOVE Dove dark chocolate and probably have a piece of it every day.

Charlotte, don't worry about the 3 pounds, it'll be gone soon. Probably just water weight from the tacos or salt or something. Wish I had more time and could do a garden, but I have a tough time just keeping up with the lawn and weedeating. It's one of the things I'll do when I retire in about 8 years (how depressing, 8 more years of this prison).

Must get ready for work.

Jeanette

Diane Sue,

Enjoy the movie today. I haven't seen either one. Which shoulder exercises do you do on the Bowflex?

Jeanete

This morning I did Slow & Heavy Legs & Shoulders. Had a great workout. I used 50 lbs for both the squats and the static lunges. I know I could go heavier, but my shoulders have a hard time holding up all that weight. I used my 40 lbs. dumbbell for plie squats. Love this leg workout!

On shoulders I was able to use 8's for front raises, and I used 10 lbs for one set of the side laterals then dropped to 8's. Man, I was fried! I used 8's for the posterior delt raises (love these) and 12's for overhead presses. I used 5's for both sets of the lying shoulder hinge exercise.

Love Slow & Heavy, now I need to decide what to do next week. I'm thinking of using Pure Strength but I never seem to get a good workout with that series. Maybe if I add on more sets and go heavier. I'll see.

Haven't had time to read everyone's posts yet but I did read Lora's. Lora - did you check out the rotations I have out on the forum? You may find something you like. If you can't find them, I'm email you the links.

Hope you all have great workouts!

Jeanette, I do side laterals, overhead presses, front raises, and reverse flys for the shoulders on the Bowflex. Thanks I have not been to a movie in months so it will be fun.

I'm gonna be real busy at work the next couple days....so i may not get in here as much as I'd like too. I just wanted to say... I really wish I could bet a Bowflex, as I think it would help. I'm trying to talk my DH into it, but we dont' have the money right now .

Hello everyone!

Well last night I did Amy Bento's Cardio Hi/Lo Pump. It was a good w/o for me, because I've slacked off so much from doing anything. It was short, but that's good for me since I was just getting started up again. I was hoping to get up this morning at 5 and w/o to Kickmax...ummmm when the alarm went off, I got out of bed to cut it off, and felt like I was drunk, so needless to say no w/o this morning. I do plan on doing kickmax when I get off work today! I'm just glad that I did something last night! It felt good to get back into it. I'm a little sore this morning, in my shoulders and neck. Lora this is where I have a lot of my pain, and I have headaches from the neck pain. Maybe we can support each other through this.
Good for you for getting up and pushing forward!!! :)

Charlotte - Hi, I'm new to this thread (is that what you would call it?) I'm looking forward to advice from all of you maniacs, to get my butt back in gear! I've looked at your pics and you are one hot momma, you are hard core with weights!

Lora - meant to comment on the water pillow, I'm gonna look into that. Sounds like something that will maybe help my neck!

Netta - Notice that you like Rhythmic Step. How do you like that? I've thought about getting that one, but not sure I would do the other two. I can't do a lot of moves in the blasts, as it really hurts my body with the arthritis, I do have a rebounder and could maybe do the blasts on that??? Can you give me a review and if you have the other two that are on that one, can you let me know how you like those as well please? :)

Sue - WOW! Your pics are awesome too, all of you ladies give me inspiration to keep going forward!

Debbie - I have the Slow and Heavy series and I'm thinking about doing the rotation you had up in another post about these, is that what you're doing now?

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! I'll be back a little later.

Morning All!

Yesterday, our ejector pump went out. :-( So, we got water or should I say sewer water (ewww!) in our spare room. We'll have to replace the pad and carpet. This is the second time we got water in the basement. The first was from a storm when we first moved in here. That time was the whole basement, but it was just water. I'm not sure which is worse. :-(

Anyway, I went down to do L&G this AM and couldn't find my 15# db. My dh, not for "dear" this time, x( was propping up the pad with them. Ughh!!! Yuck! I don't know if I'll be able to use them again. He also used my squishy ball and yoga blocks. x( He's going to get it! lol

So, I did L&G, but have to get showered up because good ole Bob is coming back to check out the problem. I really wanted to get some cardio in as well. Maybe later...I'll have to see again.

I haven't read all the posts, but will come back later. We have company coming as well today. My dh's cousin w/her new baby! :) :)

Have great workouts everyone!

Dallas

Sandy - What's wrong with your neck? By the way, you have to give yourself at least 5 minutes to shake that feeling in the morning and the about 15-20 before you workout. Try that next time, okay?

Charlotte - see....she called you one hot momma...that's why you get hit on by those youngsters!

Netta - that's why I'm stumped about what to do next for weight loss. It seems I keep working out harder and harder but instead of losing, I'm gaining. Maybe I should start taking rest days once a week?? I don't know. I did that hard Cathe Bootcamp rotation last August and had the same problem. I'm afraid to slack off cuz if I do and that's not the problem, then I'll just get fatter and I can't afford to gain any more weight, as my clothes are bulging now! LOL!

ETA: I also wanted to say...isn't it funny how we like to torture ourselves with hard workouts. I can't stop thinking about Shiva being way too easy today after doing Mark's the other day. Now I look forward to another 90 minute hard session with Mark this weekend....only I have to work Sunday..so it may have to wait. :(

Diana - speaking of Shiva....when you can get your leg up around your head like her and also do that arm balance with the split in the air....give me a holla. I want to see pics of it!! I'll never forget the first time I saw that. I believe it was in a Dancing Warrior segment this morning.

Also - Kathryn told me that the Lean Routine in P90X is not balanced enough and wouldn't build my upper body enough. Do you agree with that?

Hey Everyone,
I got my TJ's:7 So today I did Cardio party 3... it was 50 minutes, and it was fun.

I found a advanced rotation that Chelene made so I am going to do that.... That way I can do all my dvds. I got a total of 8 TJ's, and then a boot ballet live???

Gotta go!! Will be back later

~Nicole

Nicole - I'm gonna do a TJ with my new 1# gloves tomorrow. I'm glad you liked it. I think they are fun.

I've got to get back to work....but I just wanted to say that I just talked to my DH on the phone and I was telling him how frustrated I am with my weight and suggestions being made here and he said..Truthfully, I think you've been working out like a maniac and need to slow down a bit! Go figure. (I typed this in a hurry and just read it.....I didn't mean I'm frustrated with the suggestions I'm getting here....I'm frustated with my fatness!!

Hello Lora,

I have narrowing of the cervical spine. I had been having a lot of pain in my neck which caused pain so bad that would generate into the left side of my head. I knew it wasn't migranes I had those as a child and was on meds for those, fortunately as I've got older (44 yrs old by the way), they have not been as frequent. I have been to doctor after doctor and MRI's like you wouldn't believe. To make a long story short, I was having pain not only in my neck but my spine as well, so I got shots for that...it helped some what. Then I was sent to a bone doctor and had a full body scan, and that came back good. When I went back to the bone doc, he did some blood test and one came back positive for Rhumetoid sp?, and negative for Lupus. At the medical doc the blood test came back just the opposite of each other. So who knows. I've got to go back soon and see what everything looks like. Here lately I've been living with the pain, which believe it or not is better to cope with when I excersise than when I don't. Unless I do shoulders and then I'm in pain with my neck and shoulder's. Weird huh? Sorry so long.:)

Good afternoon,
I did iFit treadmill level 3 Rock and added to make it 4.75 miles, Then I did Bowflex & Free weights Back, Shoulders, & Biceps. I did the same moves as last week but upped the reps on a few and did 3 sets instead of 4 on the shoulder exercises.

Sandy, I usually stumble out of bed groggy in the mornings. I allow a few minutes to get woke up before I workout. Generally I drink a cup of coffee and start some laundry then workout. I hate those mornings where I am rushed and I have to force myself to just start right into a workout. That is when I need a longer warm up.

Lora, Shiva is very limber and I was watching some of the dvd while running this morning she really gets into some strange positions I will let you know if I ever get into some of those positions. As far as p90x lean routine you would have to add some biceps to weeks 5,6,7,10&12 and some legs into 9,10,11,&12 I don't know what their reasoning was for omitting body parts. Maybe you could do some leg circuits for your cardio on those off weeks.

Nicole, you are going to have fun with the Turbo Jams. I printed out Chalenes advanced rotation just in case I want to try it sometime. It looks like a good one. Have fun.

Dallas, sorry to hear about your water problems. I hate when stuff like that happens. I had dumbbells used to hold down doorway trim. I had to smile when you said you were missing weights.

Hi to everyone,
Diane Sue

http://wd.1ww.us

Diana Sue - Thanks for the info on P90X. That sounds like too much trouble to me. Maybe I'll do the Classic one and see what happens. I'm still undecided. I'll have to look over the rotation. I just wanted to say that I think I saw BB explain their reasoning behind the Lean Rotation and they said that the power yoga makes up for some of the lost upper body weight work. I don't know if that would be true for me though, as I still don't hold full chataranga very long due to my neck/shoulder problems.

Lora,
I know when I did P90X and added cardio I worried about loss of strength in the legs. I started out doing leg circuits but by the final weeks I just did the workouts as they are. I never lost any lower definition or strength. I doubt you would lose much strength in that amount of time on upper body either. I do all of those pushups through Yoga X. I can see that working your arms a lot. Rest days are sometimes a good thing. It took me a long time to get into the mindset that one or two days will not make me lose anything. Sometimes when we go on vacation and I do not workout I lose weight. I think some of this is due to not holding water in working tissues and some is due to worrying so much I really watch my eating habits. BTW, I wake up most mornings with neck and shoulder pain and a headache. Most of the time just getting things moving makes it all let up. Let me know how the pillow works. I had a doctor recommend no pillow and to roll a towel under my neck. That ended up on the floor. I have tried other pillows to support the neck. They were uncomfortable.
