Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Thurs 5-18

Lora - yeah, it's pretty difficult for everyone around here b/c that's all she talks about and she couldn't put in a full day's work to save her life. It's like she has preferential treatment b/c she's recovering. And I understand that it's a really, really difficult thing to do, but sheesh. She used to go to night meetings AND lunch meetings and I think she's mostly cut out the night ones. And she also goes to therapy during the day on top of everything else. And then like I said, when she is here she's always running off, phone to ear, to help someone in trouble. She even blew off a meeting one day b/c someone was in crisis. She didn't even call the lady so we all had to try to cover. And she said she didn't forget but this person needed her. Grrrr...

I have a migraine, so my sweet self is missing right now. :)

Well, this morning I did Turbo Jam#3 and Turbo Jam #1 I was only going to do part of #1 but was having fun so did all of it. I will be glad when the live one comes. I did 1 hr and 25 minutes of Yoga X. I never do the corpse pose and ooohms. I feel like I am wasteing time there.

Netta, you are up at 3:30? The earliest I ever got up was 4:30. I would be ready to crash by afternoon if I did that:)

Terri, Dallas, & Marietta, DH is adjusting well. Still having to adjust some to the time differencs. I don't know what he is going to do right now. He will take back over a security business he had someone else doing for him. Other than that I am not sure.

Marietta, do you think maybe your co worker is going to quit?

Suz & Nicole no I do not have problems with my shoulder. I have injured various areas over the years and had to work on recovery so I just tend toward being careful. So far I have never injured anything badly enough that I went to the doctor for. As far as the shoulder, I just see quick movements with weights as an easy way to make a mistake and hurt something.

Dallas, at least you still got your workout in. I remember when that used to happen to me when my children were still home. I worked out in the living room and really liked being the only one up.

Diane Sue ~ lol...about the corpse pose. I do feel like it's a waste of time, but I like it. It means I'm done! I do like that time to myself in the AM. It pushes me to get out of bed a lot of times.

Suz ~ I think I'd ask Cathe too about your question.

Susan ~ Thanks. Let me know what you think of MTV Pilates Mix. I haven't done that one in awhile. Are you doing the May rotation right now? I thought I'd start it, but have been looking at some other rotations. Too many nice choices! :)

Christine ~ I agree, I think it's great when any movie gets people talking/thinking about religion. I really don't know what that movie is about, but I'd like to read the book first.

Nicole ~ Any news yet?

Since Ryka Enlights II are no longer available and my insoles look like a piece of paper  , I have a question - What studio shoes are you ladies wearing for step and kickboxing?

Dallas

Dallas - they aren't studio's, but I love my Saucony's. This is the first pair I ever got. They are running shoes, but work well for everything (I think). I think Terri got them also. We got the raspberry and white ones like Traci Long wears in Better Burn, Better Buns. I fell in love with them when I saw them on her and saw them posted on her Forum. I would have never thought to try Saucony's, but I'll be buying them a LOT more now!!

Suz - that's too much about that girl. I never went for therapy....although I probably should have....I'm still pretty sick now...only I buy Exercise stuff and beauty products. My DH tells me one addiction is replacing another! He tells me to work a program and quit being such a "shopaholic". I live within my means (that's why I sell on E-bay), so I don't really think it's an issue, but perhaps I'm wrong. I don't really care...as long as I'm not using drugs!

Has anyone heard that using weighted gloves for punching causes injuries?

Dallas,
I was wearing Ryka Crosstrainers. I just bought a pair of Saucony Crosstrainers and a pair of Saucony running shoes to wear on the treadmill. I really like them both. I have a bunion and have to be picky. I read the reviews on Zappos.com before I made my choices.

Hi guys I have time to pop in for just a minute...I have a meeting to go to.

I didn't mean to alarm anyone on the weighted gloves...I think if they work for you then that's fine. I guess if I had any tendencies toward shoulder injuries I'd probably avoid them. I support doing whatever works for you. I prefer to get my shoulder and arm work done when I'm lifting....just my preference. I think if you are not careful, you could injure yourself with weighted gloves. Know what I mean?

Hey...think I ran about 9.5 miles at lunch. My second toe must have been rubbing the top of my shoe because it's tender now. Oh boy and I have to teach tonight...this could be interesting. I'll be going really easy that's for sure.

I'll try to come back a little later and chat some more...

~Marietta

Okay - I need help picking a workout for tomorrow. I can't decide. It's a toss up between Amy Bento's All Pump (I wanted to try to do this as a heavy workout with less reps) with a short cardio add on (perhaps my jump rope if my DH adjusts it for me), Slim & Lean with Jari Love, Cathe's Muscle Max or CIA Full Body Cardio (circuit weight/aerobics - tough one). Decisions...Decisons.

Toasty - where are you? You're off today and ignoring us!!!!

Lora - I agree with Marietta - try Cathe tomorrow! I'm pretty much hooked on Cathe so I don't know that I'll do much else for a long time. It's so hard for me to find workouts that are that tough. Plus I have my Bowflex and elliptical and I have a bike on the trainer in the basement for winter and my bike for outside now. I figure I'm pretty well set to not get bored. :)

My migraine is almost gone so the nice me has returned. Yay! No more complaining about my co-worker. And the good thing is that she's much nicer now than she used to be when she was drinking. That's a plus.

Hey Everyone,
Well Colby's count is up....a little, but nothing I would write home about :-( Dr. said that sometimes it takes a few pulse dosages to see a difference. So I am to take him back in 2-3 weeks. I chose 3:D I will keep you all posted. Just praying we have no injuries this summer;)

Suz happy to hear your head is feeling better!! I know what you mean about Cathe...... I have many different workouts, but nothing compares to Cathe. She is just so darn GOOD!! I always come back to her!! But I gotta say I just LOVE variety!!

Susan WOW 400:eek: IT makes me TIRED just thinking about those:7 Way to go.

Lora are these the Everlast gloves that you ordered?? I have these and I really like them. Makes me feel like I am really a boxer LOL... Btw I did buy mine at the store and I paid around 16 bucks?? So you did pretty good!!

Christine happy to hear you are 100%!! You are lucky you are such a fast healing!!

Well gotta go!!
Take care,
~Nicole

Lora,

Girl, I am not ignoring no one!!!! :p Just got done with my workout, mowing and cleaning. I am too tired now to get groceries so I will get them tomorrow after work, etc.

So I felt stronger yesterday and today could only curl the 30# db's 3x's. I stayed mostly with 25#'s after that (2 sets of 10). I did alternate curls, hammer curls and then curled with barbell (50#'s doing 2 sets). Went onto triceps doing dips with 30# db in lap 30x's. Then tricep extensions off smith machine on 60# 12x's (2 sets) Shoulders I did some new...like you are pulling a sword out of one side and then swing up to the side like a side lateral move...did 3 sets of these with 12# db. Then I did another shoulder workout where you sit down with one db in both hands and pull up above head (3 sets of 12). Plyo's consisted of jumping off stepper into wide stance position 12x's then side bends several times and airborne jumping jacks and that skating move...I am tired so I can't think of what it is called right now. O.k. now I am going to get the laundry out of the way and then watch some tv.

Charlotte~~

Charlotte - I knew you were probably working out! Just kidding with you!

Geez you ladies make me feel like I need a Bowflex. I've asked the DH before and he just looks at me, says I don't need it and then asks where I'm gonna put it. Our house is not that big. How much are they these days?

I knew I shouldn't asked that question on an all Cathe Forum!! I used to do her rotations day in and day out and I think I just got burned out from her. I have no problem finding hard workouts and if they aren't quite as hard as Cathe, I feel fine modifying up. If I do Muscle Max, I won't have time for a cardio add on and I'm a fat girl!!

I got my jump rope adjusted but it's pretty tight quarters swinging it around. I smacked my poor cat in the head with the beaded rope. My DH is mad at me now. I don't know how I'm going to manage this in the living room while watching the DVD. We'll see!

Christine - so happy your foot is better!!!

Dallas - I wish I could help you on your shoes. When I heard they were discontinuing them I bought two pair. I hope they last me for awhile.

Lora - I think your new addiction is just fine. :)

Marietta - wow - 9.5 miles! I do hope your toe is feeling better soon.

Charolotte - you are one strong girl!!! I hope you enjoyed your day off.

Lora - I think we got our Bowflex for around $700 at our local bike shop (surprise, surprise that we were in a bike shop!). It's the Bowflex Sport. How's your kitty doing? :p

Maybe I'll post a question to Cathe. A gal I work with who is a paramedic and runs our paramedic program was telling me that by the description I gave, my high heart rate and the fact that I was out of breath walking from my office to hers in another building (even though I've been working out for over 20 years) she thinks it's some sort of lung capacity issue. She said the fact that my muscles burn from the minute I start riding it's not a lactic acid issue (since that takes awhile to build up) but that my muscles aren't getting enough oxygen. She said I should see a pulmonologist b/c there are things they can do. I feel funny going back to my doctor for a referral though because she gave me a stress test, then I went to a cardiologist and they did the test where they shoot dye into your body and take pics of your heart. My cardiologist said I'm one of the healthiest people he's ever seen. :) They never got my HR up very high on the stress test b/c they wouldn't turn the treadmill speed up. But I don't think it's a heart issue anyway and I know my heart is strong. Would you guys feel funny going back to the doctor again? My assistant always has SOMETHING wrong with her and goes from doctor to doctor and they tell her there's nothing wrong (her feet hurt, her shoulder bothers her, her stomach hurts, she burps too much, her cheeks hurt, her sinuses hurt, she has a headache, her back hurts, her eyes hurt - every day it's something new). She even went to the Mayo Clinic not too long ago and they said there's NOTHING wrong with her. So I don't want to be like that - a complainer. But DH has always thought there was something going on b/c he sees how hard I train and even helps train me on the bike and is always baffled at my HR and leg burn.

My, my, my - I sure am chatty!

Suz

Hi ladies,
I'm back home after work, dentist appt., ladies bike ride, visit with uncle and now reading the forums.

Our bike ride (3 of us ladies) was really good, 21 miles, with 2,040' of climbing. I felt absolutely wonderful and strong during the climbing. The toughest part is the start, as our meeting place is at the base of the first hill, so no real warm up. It was warm and windy down at the bottom, but nice and shady and cooler as we climbed higher. We didn't linger at the summit as the mosquitos were ravenous. Downhill was fast, I hit 39.5 mph on the descent.

Charlotte, hmmm, I take it you'll have Thursdays and Sundays off? You are really strong to pump that much iron. You rock!

Susan CM, 400 walking lunges, good gracious! Great workout! Yep, I'm too vain also. I'll never let myself go. I used to weigh 145 (I'm 5'2"), lost the weight 26 years ago and have never lapsed back. However, it's harder to keep the weight down now at age 47. I have to always be careful.

Dallas, my grandson is 7. He plays farm league as a catcher. The kids are so funny to watch. It's so low key, I think a score is kept, but at this stage, it's not that important. Nice when the parents don't get all wrapped up and upset about the sports. Oh yeah, I also like corpse pose. I took a yoga class a couple years ago and during the relaxing part at the end (shivasana?), the instructor would give each person a warm eye bag, we'd cover up with a blanket, and one by one, she'd give each person a little scalp massage and a little neck stretch. It was soooo nice. It was my favorite part of the class.

Debbie, hope you're feeling more enthusiastic. Sometimes I want to join the I Hate Cardio club, but then I remember how much I like to ride my bike. Course, I consider my cycling as a cardio/fun event.

Lora, we've had the Bowflex since the end of March, but I like it. I like putting on my own music and using it. Love the lat pulldowns, they really build your upper back. I have the Sport and DH likes using it too. I torture..er, coach him on it. The power rods are easy to move, not even an issue. It does take up some room though.

Marietta, way to go on the 9.5 mile run! Hope the toe is okay. I totally agree that we should keep ourselves in the right state, mentally and physically. The exercise makes me feel soooo good, gives me so much energy, I'd think everyone would want to have more. I was thinking tonite, here we are, 3 middle aged ladies (all pushing 50) and we're climbing some pretty good hills on our bikes and loving it. And when we were done, we were all on such a high, not drained and spent. We all have jobs, put in long days with family and work, yet we can still pump out the miles and feel STRONG!! There's really nothing like it at all. Okay, enough already.

Nicole, hope you enjoyed CK. Keep us posted on your little one, hugs to you too!

Christine, so glad your foot is better. Whew! Could it have been a shoelace bruising the top of your foot or something like that? Sending good vibes for the long run this weekend. Weather is supposed to cool down some too.

Diane Sue, know you are enjoying DH being home. So good it's permanent now. How long have you been working out? I'm actually up at 2:30 to 2:45, drink coffee, and start my workout at 3:30. Crazy, huh? I work 4 10 hour days a week and my 3 days off starts tomorrow, so I catch up on more sleep on the weekend. I usually head to bed around 8:30 each night (but not tonite!).

Terry, sorry I missed it, but who is Dave and what kind of a band is he in? Hope your workout was good. I like CTX kickbox.

Susan (dogs2birds), Cardio Coach #4, do you like it? I have yet to do CC#3, but will do it on Tuesday. CC#2 is about 30 minutes long and I'm ready to bump it up. Sorry about the headwind. Do you have a hard time hearing Sean and the music with the wind going? About the burning, that doesn't sound right. Up until last year, my legs used to be fatigued more. I've cut out working them so much with weights, not sure if that's what helped or not. Have you tried not working your legs with weights inbetween rides? I don't even know what to suggest for tests as far as seeing a doctor, but it probably wouldn't hurt to check it out further. At least it would ease your mind. Are you eating enough carbs?

Well must finish reading, see you all in the a.m.
