Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Monday 5-22

Morning Maniacs -

I did not want to get up this morning, nor did I want to work out. I'm so depressed and can't shake this for nothing! This morning I did Amy Bento's Pump. I heavied up and did less reps, rather than making it more endurance based, except on legs. I also stepped during the portions where she rests to keep my HR up. I still don't feel like I got a good weight work out in. We'll see if I feel it tomorrow. I also did Mindy's Boot Camp step segment with the med ball for 30 minutes.

Mindy's Boot Camp is tough. I like it. It has lots of plyo's and athletic moves. My legs felt it. The segment ends with pushups and tricep dips, as well as ab work. I did some pushups on the floor and all of the planks..so we'll see how my shoulders handle it. Guess, I don't listen to my doctor very well, do I?

I need help choosing a rotation. Anyone care to suggest any? My goals are to lose weight, gain definition (arms, legs) and flatten my lower belly. I was looking at rotations all night and can't decide on one. I have about 60 minutes a day to workout and 70 on a few others.

I looked over Charlotte's rotation, but I don't know if my body could handle weights day in and day out like she's doing. Hers is one day of weight training and then a circuit workout the next day. I think that may be too much for my injury. I also don't have time to do a complete cardio workout on a day I lift weights....so I don't have the time to do it. I can't work out close to bed time because of my sleep difficulties.

Have great workouts and I'll check back later.

I also wanted to make sure you ladies still want me to check in on this thread since I haven't been doing Cathe's lately. I don't feel like I belong here.

This morning I did Slow & Heavy Back and then S&H Bi's. I started my back work with pull ups and was able to do three easily. Then I did eight reps of negative pull ups. I used 15's for double arm rows and 25 lbs. for pull overs. I skipped the deadlifts and did another version of double arm rows w/12's. Got a great burn in my upper back.

With bi's I started the dumbbell curls using 20's. Did one set with those and then dropped down to 15's. My bi's weren't cooperating with me this morning for some reason. Usually they are my strongest body part. I still got a great workout. I used 15's for all three sets of hammer curls and 30 lbs. for barbell curls. I usually use 35 lbs. for barbell curls but this morning just didn't have it in me. :( Hopefully tonight I will do abs and a stretch workout.

Jeanette - excellent 57 mile ride yesterday! Holy crap, woman! That is awesome!

Diane Sue - Love the Knee Raise Tower. I'm looking at one on Amazon that includes a pull up bar. Its $80 but its so big. I don't know if I have the room for it.

Suz - I do one body part a week and my body really likes it. I usually do two body parts one day, do cardio the next, do two body parts the next day, do cardio, and so on. It works well for me.

Lora - I'm sorry you are depressed lately. I hope you get out of that soon. And YES! Please keep posting. I love reading your workouts because they are different. So please continue!

Have great workouts everyone!

Hi maniacs!

Lora, for sure, please don't stop this thread or checking in!!!!! I personally very much look forward to your reviews and workouts each day. I haven't been doing much Cathe lately either. We all need a change from time to time. Hey, it's whatever gives you pleasure and makes you feel good when it comes to workouts. I like variety myself. But I also don't want to feel beat up all the time either. I haven't planned a rotation for myself lately, I just do whatever I feel like here lately, and that doesn't conflict with my cycling. I'm finding the eating makes more of a difference than anything as far as muscle definition for me.

Today's workout was TJ 20 minute cardio and Eoin Finn's PY4H, Daily Dose of Bliss premix. I feel sooo much better now. My hamstrings were so tight this morning from yesterday's ride so I really welcomed the downdogs.

Lora, what would your next recommendation for another yoga DVD be for me? I like having premixes and shorter and longer workouts (like the PY4H). I'm not super flexible, someday may be able to do crow, don't care about headstands and difficult moves.

Suz, I'll be interested to see if working your legs less helps with your cycling. Keep us posted for sure. It's frustrating to be working so hard, but not seeing the performance results that we want. For me, I still try to smell the roses, look at the cows more and enjoy the cycling, not every time, but regularly. It's more beautiful than the wheel of the bike in front of you. But I'm also competitive like you so I want to see some improvement. I'm so pleased with the people I cycle with. We all basically have the same goals and like to push, but also like to enjoy what we're cycling thru and the company of each other. Makes my cycling very satisfying. My dream some day, would be to cycle in the wine country of Italy, taking in the sights, climbing tough hills, eating fabulous food, enjoying some wine.

Must get ready for work. Indian Tacos at lunch today. Think I'll skip the fry bread, just have the beans, tomatoes, toppings.

Good workouts today and Lora, forgot to tell you that's something for your boss to give a compliment the other day. Bout made me fall over reading it. Hang in there today, okay. We're with you.

Jeanette

Hi Debbie,

Good job on the pullups. I'll have to try one sometime on my mom's clothesline! Wow, 20# biceps. I just stepped it up to 15's and can really tell the difference. 20's will be a huge jump for me. I'm finding that me working with DH without following a DVD makes me want to increase the weight more as I know I'm not having to keep up with Cathe or finish all the reps. Does that make sense?

Jeanette

Good morning Maniacs!

Today is P90X Chest, Shoulders and Triceps, followed by a 4 mile run or Spinervlas (weather dependent - wind or no wind). I'm going to try to work from home today - depends on whether or not anyone else calls in sick. There are only 4 of us, so I don't feel right doing that. I just need a break from the office.

Lora - OF COURSE we want you to check in!!! I'm really sorry to hear your depressed, and I really admire you for working out through it. You are an inspiration to me. Whenever I think of not working out one morning, I think of you, and how you always manage to workout no matter what, and I know I have to get moving.

Jeanette - you are SOO making me want to get on my bike again - hence the Spinervals option today. Great job on the 57 mile ride!!

Debbie - wow! You are doing so well on the pull ups!!

Suz - I work my legs once a week, but am thinking of adding a little more on another day (like the leg drills in Kick Max). I don't want to do too much more because of my running. I'm afraid I won't be able to run if I work my legs too much.

Waves hello to everyone who follows!!!

Netta - I'd say Shiva Rea for the next DVD purchase. You can't go wrong with Yoga Shakti. It costs $25 at CD Universe and Amazon, but it has a Matrix and you can program any workout you want in it. It has tons of footage. It has everything from sun saluations, standing poses, to lying poses, hip openers and then there's all of the inversions, headstands and such....but you can skip over those. It's filmed on a sand dune in the Maldave Islands (spelling). The scenery and music is breathtaking. She also has 2 DVDs that are premixes off of Yoga Shakti that retail for about $10-$14. They are Solar Flow and Lunar Flow, but they just have 4 premixes each on them and they are made up from Yoga Shakti. If I could only own 2 DVDs for Yoga, they would be Eion's and Yoga Shakti.....although Eion's got a new one coming out in a couple months and he's going to make it exactly like PY4H with the 6 premixes on 2 DVDs. He asked us over at VF forum what we all preferred.

Hey Everyone,
Hope you all had a good weekend!!

Today I have the yen to do firm cardio sculpt and thens 2 bodyparts.

Debbie you inspired me to do this:D Could you tell me which 2 parts you do??? Give me a little rotation on how you do it PLEASE:7 Thank you a head of time.

Lora I think you would have good results going with Debbies circuit rotation. Keep us posted on what you decide:7 When my TJ's come I plan on doing a TJ/SS rotation.

Well gotta go I have house work to do:-(

Hello to everyone that follows!!

Hello Ladies,

Today is suppose to be powermax but I don't have that one so will sub with circuitmax. Will also get in a 3 mile run later and some upper body work. The weekend was hectic and I never did check-in yesterday. I hope you all had a good day. After all this craziness that has been going on I took some ME time and went to the movies with a friend. We saw The Davinci code. My friend had read the book I had not. My review on the movie is deifferent then Lora's. I liked it. I think it is one that you will either Love or hate! :)

Lora-Sorry you are depressed. A lot of us don' do cathe everyday so don't worry about that! I wish I could help you with a rotation but I either use cathes or one of Debbie's.

Debbie-You make such great rotations maybe you have one to suggest to Lora.

Netta-57 miles? Holy cow! How long does it take to ride that far?

Christine-I hope your plan to work from home works out for you.

Hello to all who follow.

Terri

Happy Monday!

Saturday, was a rest day. Yesterday, I did 15 minute w/u on the treadmill, PUB (no abs), CM#3 and stretch. I then went outside with the kids for a 30 minute walk and then a bike ride to the park. The walk and bike ride involved some big hills. I'm feeling it in my legs today. Not so bad that I couldn't work out though. Today, I did a 45 minute run on the treadmill and MM abs and stretch. I'd like to try out my new yoga DVD as soon as my breakfast is digested.

Lora ~ Don't leave. Maybe you have the Monday blues? I'm not sure which rotation to suggest. I've been looking myself. I've been doing my own thing as well. Especially since I'm really getting back into the swing of things now. You know the whole foot saga. lol (((((HUGS)))) to you! I got my Eoin DVDs over the weekend. I think I'll just do the Quickie Routine. Too bad about that movie you saw over the weekend. Maybe I won't go see that one.

Debbie ~ Way to go on the workout!

Christine ~ How's your dh? Is he getting re-adjusted time wise?

Jeanette ~ Wow...57 miles! You sound like my PT. You ladies are amazing!

Dh and I watched Tristan and Isolde and Match Point this weekend. I liked the first one a lot. The second one kept reminding me of something, then it dawned on me Crime and Punishment. Anyone read that book? What do you think?

Hi to all who follow!

ETA: Hi Terri and Nicole. We must have posted at the same time. My ds needed help in the middle of me posting. Also, wanted to add for those of you with kids or grandkids that we watched Nannie McPhee (sp?) with the kids too. What a nice family movie.

I mean for someone to recommend a Cathe one. I will do Cathe and I can sub other stuff if I don't feel like dragging out all of my equipment, etc.

Oh, where's Marietta when we need her? lol I do agree with Jeanette. When I watched what I ate, it made the world of difference. What is the saying, "80% (or is this higher) is diet...".

Okay Dallas - the diet talk isn't really helping my depression....specially since I'm PMSing (half joking). Seriously though, food is so difficult. I watch what I eat, although not totally clean...I don't eat stuff that's bad for you. I do eat some processed stuff since we all know I'm not Suzie Homemaker.

The rotations I've been looking at are the Hardcore Fatloss and the Fatloss and Definition one, as well as the Aug rotation foocusing on burning body fat and shaping the legs and glutes....in the process not ignoring the upper body.

Since I can't decide, maybe I should just do a week from each one??? I don't know if that's enough cardio for me though and I need to fit my yoga in somewhere cuz I need it, but I can always do it on Sat/Sun.

Toasty- if you feel like making me a modified version of your rotation, I'd be interested in that......but I don't know if you have time. Where are you today anyway?? Your CD's should be arriving today or tomorrow. You'll be jammin'soon.

Lora-Can you e-mail me charlottes rotation. I mentioned it to her but with her new job I am sure she is busy.

Dallas and Nicole-Nice to see you ladies! When do your turbo jams come Nicole?

Terri

Good Morning Maniacs!!

Well...it's Monday. Had to drag myself out of the bed this morning, but once I woke up I was fine. I had a very busy weekend...was on the move like nobody's business!

Saturday I did some interval work on my treadmill and then I had a group training session to do. I worked out with them so I was able to get in plenty of cardio and weight-work. Sunday was a rest day for me....a complete day of rest. Gosh, my eating over the weekend was not so great....but it's funny cause when I have those kind of weekends, I feel alot leaner....sometimes I think my body needs some bad stuff to shock it a bit.

Oh...this morning I did Body Max through the Power Circuits...then I had to get ready for work.

Lora - You better not go anywhere!! Enough said...As far as rotations go, right now, I'm having a really hard time following anything. I know I made some suggestions a while back, I'm not sure if you liked those suggestions. I'm not following a rotation at the moment...just doing whatever I feel needs to be done at a given time. Take Toasty's rotation and then make it what you need it to be for you. It's a great starting point...I read on another thread that you were discouraged because Toasty weighs less than you but is taller than you....you cannot go by that. You know that...I know you do. Stop giving yourself more things to be depressed about...ok? You said the other week how someone complimented you because you look really good...they could tell you worked out. Remember that? You have to embrace the positive...you have to!!

Debbie - Great workout! I know what you mean about the bi's...sometimes mine don't want to cooperate either.

Netta - 57 miles? Awesome!! I wanna know how long that took too!! What are Indian Tacos??

Christine - Enjoy your work from home day...if you decide to stay home. I know that this is different than what you hear from most runners, but I do not back off on my leg work....I really believe that has made me a stronger runner. I generally do one enduranced based workout and one general strenghth workout for my legs each week.

Hi Nicole - Have a great workout and a wonderful day!

Terri - Glad you had some YOU time....I'm sure we could all use more of that. Glad you enjoyed the movie...I've learned that I cannot always base my decision to see or not see a movie based on the opionion of someone else. While they certainly mean well...they just may just be "different" from you and not have the same perspective. Therefore you will interpret the same movie in very different ways. And hey...that's okay. Enjoy your workout today...

Dallas - A 45-minute run on the treasmill? Awesome!! Let us know how you like your new Yoga workout.

Hi to all that follow...

I'll be back later.

Gosh, Lora I'm sorry! I understand that PMS thing. Just been there done that...lol. Are you just being hard on yourself. You always seem to post great workouts. Oh boy, the August rotation! That will rev up your metabolism. Maybe you need to get back to some Cathe workouts. You know the other saying, "Change is always good..." ;-)

Oh! I need to go do my stretch...we have a busy day here.

Marietta ~ What's a good mile time I can shoot for? I ran my best mile in high school track at 6:15. Don't think I can do that again. ha ha!

Nicole ~ Speaking of cleaning, I cleaned out two closets over the weekend! I have four more I want to get done before the kids get out of school.

Marietta - I looked at the rotation yesterday. The only thing I didn't like about it is the way you had body parts grouped and shoulders were by themselves with something else (can't remember). Then I think on the yoga, cardio day (which usually takes me 60-90 min alone) you added legs on that day.....so I was going to do it but was confused on how to rearrange the body parts. I would most likely use Gym Styles for upper body and Pure STrength. I welcome your suggestions. I like to do yoga and cardio on Wednesdays, but if I had to quit that for a couple months, I suppose I could deal with just doing it on the weekends. thanks.....me Also...I dont' know if it was good enough for losing weight.

One last question, if I did Toasty's and didn't do a circuit after each weight day.....how would you suggest I change it. I probably could handle a circuit after a weight day here and there but not all of the time. It think it would bother my shoulders. Also, I only have 60 minutes a day to workout ( a bit longer 75 on M, W, F's).

Terry - I don't have the rotation in the computer any more ( I think - I'll double check when I get home). I printed it out.

Marietta - do you have that rotation you made for Toasty to post for everyone? I think a few people were interested, but Charlotte's not been around. Can you also explain how this is not overtraining and the theory behind the rotation?

Well...I can't post the rotation because of the way it is formatted. It is a Word document and if I try to cut and paste it the format would be horrible.

I made the rotation for Toasty to "shock" her system a bit. She had been doing the very same thing for quite some time and based on "her" goals I came up with something to suit her needs.

Now, this type of workout is obviously not for everyone. Based on time and also based on whether or not you are interested in the type of rotation that I made for her. I did not post her rotation when I made it because I made specifically for Toasty based on a lot of information she has provided me.

The rotation was not intended to be done forever....it's designed to be done for about a month. After that time you would move on to something a little less intense. Doing a circuit workout one day and then following up a second day is not overtraining. Because generally in the circuit workouts you are not spending a lot of time on any one body part. Therefore I had her do the additional weight training on subsequent days.

You have to understand Toasty's body and the goals that she has in order to understand why I had her doing this particular rotation. It is working for her and that's all that matters.

Would I suggest you do this rotation....probably not. But I do think that you can take it and make it whatever you want it to be. If you want to incorporate yoga then you can just take out the additional specific bodypart weight work and replace it with Yoga. If you would rather do bodypart work and not circuits...again, you can replace that with Yoga.

Think that's all I can say on that...I've said it before and I'll say it again. Working out is subjective there is no black and white. You try different things and you have to be open to change. If something works for you then you run with that and if it doesn't it, you toss it and keep pressing forward.

With that said if anyone wants the rotation I will need email addresses (if I don't have it already) and then I'll send it.
