Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Finally Friday 5-19

Cathlete
Morning Maniacs -

Thank God it's Friday. I didn't think I was gonna make it thru this week. I'm so depressed and it just keeps raining here and my migraine won't go away and I can't sleep! Ugh. Okay, I'll stop complaining now. How's that for a good morning? LOL.

This morning I did (the much dreaded) Muscle Max. I tend to dread Cathe workouts these days cuz I workout in the living room/dining room area and my weights have to be dragged out from the family room. It takes me 15 minutes to set up and put away! I matched her weight (for the most part) and I really don't feel like I lifted heavy enough. My barbell only goes to 37 pounds (and takes forever to load up). I need another one that will hold more weight with 10 pound plates.

I didn't have time to add cardio on and I never feel like I worked out if I didn't sweat a lot. We'll see how sore I get tomorrow, cuz right now I don't feel like I will be. The only thing that was tough for me were abs. I guess I've been neglecting them a bit.

So about how much room do you need for a Bowflex? I doubt I could put it in my dining room....right? I thought they folded up for stoarage. They don't? I guess I'll never get one if I need a lot of space cuz we only have a 1 bedroom house (our whole upstairs is one bedroom) and then I only have the dining room/living room where I workout and a Family Room and they're all full of furniture.

Have great workouts today. I'll try to check in from work. It will be a busy day cuz it's Pay Day.

Nicole - I forgot to answer you yesterday. Yes, those are the gloves I got from Amazon! It's good to hear that you have them and like them. I think the 1 pounders will be perfect for me right now. I used the 1.5 for part of my workout yesterday and the half pound tae bo balls and so, far only mild soreness in my shoulders and triceps from it.

Charlotte - see........more balls..Tae Bo balls....LOL. I can't get away from them. Do you work over the weekend?

Good Morning,
It is one of those mornings where I feel indecisive. I want to run on the treadmill but I also want to do a circuit workout for lower body. I will probably do both:) Make my own circuit or something.

Lora, my Bowflex folds up but when I use it it takes quite a bit of room. The power Rods have to have room to come out and the bench has to come out into the room. Also I added the lat tower which makes it way taller so it does not move around as easy as it appears on the infomercials. The leg extension attachment also adds to the length when set up. If the Bowflex and treadmill did not fold up I would have a small space to do other work in my workout room. I was kind of looking over the new Bowflex revolution. I am not sure how that would be. I am looking to do some remodeling to make more room for more equipment. I hope your day goes well. I had a migraine earlier this week. Along with sinus. I can sympathize.

Hi to everyone

Lora, I have a huge bedroom as well, our whole upstairs is a bedroom and I've made half of it my workout room. Can you do something like that or would your dh not like it?

Today is my rest day. I'm getting ready to go deliver Avon. Oh joy.

Have a great day everyone!

80x100

Hi Lora, I have the Sport. The book says to have a workout area of at least 8'4" x 6'6" of free space. I have mine pulled away from the wall so I can walk behind the bowflex power rods to adjust each side. In othe words you will need at least 100" to walk around both ends. I never fold mine up. It's ready to go at any time.

Jeanette

Good Morning,

Today is leg day! My favorite! I just wish I felt more up to it than I do right now. I plan to do a one mile run, weighted walking lunges and GS Legs and hamstring curls.

Lora, I used to have a Bowflex. I LOVED it, DH didn't. It took up space, but we had a room designated for it.

Debbie, enjoy your rest day. Hey, I saw an ad. for stick on nail polish from Avon. Does it work well? I hardly polish my nails these days since I'm always cleaning and nail polish just doesn’t stay on.

I'll be back later....

Good Morning All!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is undecided about the workout for today. lol I did get in a 45 minute stretch this AM. I needed that. Now I plan on doing a light run on the treadmill and a leg workout from Oxygen's Glute edition. The workout involves:

plie squats (3 sets of 15)
one legged squats (2 sets 8-12 per leg)
side-to-side lunges (2 sets of 20)
standing lunge (2 sets of 12-15 per leg)
glute kickback (2 sets of 20)
hamstring curl on stability ball (2-3 sets of 12)
bent leg raise (2 sets of 20-25 reps)
bench step-up sidekick (3 sets of 15 per leg)

I listed in case anyone is interested. I don't know how many got this issue. I was re-reading it last night and have been wanting to try this workout. If I have time I'll add some ab work too.

Susan ~ Enjoy your leg workout too!

Lora ~ My dh has been talking about the Bowflex as well. I'd like to get another cardio machine, but there's not enough room for both. Have fun with payroll. ;-)

Diane Sue ~Thanks for the shoe recommendation. How does the sizing run on the Saucony's?

OK, got to get busy. My kids are almost better! Yeah! :7

Dallas

ETA: Just read the late posters messages from yesterday.

Suz ~ I would definitely go get that checked out. Like you said, there's something that can be done to fix that. Now when you find out let me know. I get winded when I walk up the stairs sometimes. I'm always baffled by that.

Netta ~ Now I would really enjoy the corpse pose if someone brought warm blankets and gave me a massage! ;-) I need to get out of my basement more. lol

Marietta ~ Way to go on the run! What's the plan for today?

Another Bowflex question - do you ladies do your Cathe DVDs with it or work out on your own, or both?

Charlotte - I'm emailing you from work but if you answer me after 4:00 pm, please send to my home addy or PM me. thanks.

Dallas - My Saucony's ran true to size. I always wear a 9.5 and that's what I ordered. I love mine. Best I've ever had.

Thanks Lora! You're talking about the running shoe, right? Not the cross trainer Saucony? I think I'm going to get the cross trainer as I have Mizuno running shoes. I remember reading on OD forum that you should have shoes for both types of workouts.

Hey, have you ever heard of this instructor, Lora?

http://www.ciavideo.com/videodetail.asp?vidid=willpowerdvd

If you do a search on Amazon for this video, one person's review even mentions Cathe workouts and that this is as tough. Interesting! I don't like the barefoot aspect of it, so I would just wear shoes.

OK, I'm procrastinating today! ha ha! I think my breakfast has digested.

TFIF Maniacs!!! (Warning....long post)

Well....I did have to come to work today. And guess what? My co-worker is here...go figure!!! Now, I'm really mad because I didn't have to be here. Could have stayed at home...could still be in bed actually.

Real light workout this morning...I did an incline walk on my treadmill and then did biceps and triceps. Gonna avoid high-impact today. Resting in my own special kind of way...

Wanted to respond to some of the posts from yesterday...

Christine - when is the 1/2 in July...what part of CA are you? That's definitely something to consider. What have you decided about the job you were talking about the other day?

Dallas - Sorry you had such a staggered workout yesterday....I always say, something is better than nothing. Sorry about everything you are going through with your family....hang in there. Come here when you need to vent...ok?

Suz - I'm always into something...I don't always put everything down, because you guys would probably have me locked up!! Your co-worker sounds just as interesting as mine....nice to know I'm not alone!! As fare as what the paramedic was saying...do you wear a heartrate monitor? How do YOU feel? If you feel like something is not quite right then don't feel embarrassed to go back to the doctor. If you are not comfortable with that then see another doctor for complete second opinion. You are not a complainer, but rather a health conscience person who is concerned about your health. I think the fact that your DH is concerned warrants the fact that you need to see the doctor...just to be on the safe side.

Susan - Awesome workout yesterday!! 400 walking lunges...woo-hoo!! Let us know what you think about the Pilates workouts.

Nicole - Keep up posted...I'll keep praying for the little guy.

Toasty - You just do what you gotta do....we know you are a working girl now!!!

Netta - Awesome ride!! I know what you mean about starting at the base of a hill. We have a few running routes that do that...let's just say those are the harder runs. I hate starting uphill! The toe is much better....I think not running today will be a good thing.
What you described about feeling good and STRONG...couldn't have worded it better if I wanted to. Oh...what a feeling!!

And for today...

Lora - You had ME down as a choice...sorry you didn't enjoy it. Hopefully you'll have a good case of DOMS and it will have been worth it.

Diane Sue - I have those indecisive days as well...but they always turn out just fine. Have a good workout.

Debbie - Enjoy your rest day. Avon's calling....

Susan - Didn't you do 400 walking lunges yesterday? Oh...I might be confused...at any rate, You go girl!!

Dallas - Good workout...thanks for posting. We read the mags, but can forget about specific workouts...it's nice to be reminded.

Well gotta go talk about getting off early today....I soooo don't wanna be here!

Morning Maniacs!!!

Today is my rest day, but I am seeing more definition in my arms so I couldn't resist to do a few more bicep curls! LOL! Now I need to change my clothes again cuz I stink! LOL!

I went to the grocery store this morning and I am going to work here in a few minutes. I get a hour lunch instead of 30 mins today so I will go get a fat juicy burger and a salad at the restaurant next to the bank. I get my burgers without the bun. ;-)

Tomorrow I will do the breakdown circuit after work. I work 8 -12:30 so that isn't too bad. It will be quick!

Lora,

k. I will check it out.

Marietta,

Oh, your co worker is really testing you. See, I told you so!!!! GOSH! Sorry you have to go in today, but you will make the most out of it. You always do. I emailed you girl...I miss hearing from ya.

Dallas,

I like your workout you did today. Seems similiar to a few of mine. Sounds fun!

Debbie,

Enjoy your rest day. I know I will!

Susan,

I love doing walking lunges. Everyone knows that. I prefer doing those instead of static lunges. Static lunges tend to bother my knees more. Strange, but just bending down at work counting coins bothers my knees more then squatting 150 pounds..go figure! LOL!

Diane Sue,

Again, you make me dizzy just knowing what you will probably be doing!

Charlotte~~

Dallas - I actually bought that DVD a month ago but hven't done it yet. It looks good though. Maybe I'll do it Wednesday. Yes, I got the running shoes, but I will probably also try crosstrainers in the future. Mine are very VERY cushiony and I love them!!

This morning I did an hour on the bike, spinning with no resistance and keeping my heart rate low - 152/153. I work half day today so when I get home I want to do biceps, triceps and abs.

Lora - like Diane Sue and Jeanette said, the Bowflex does take up some room. I don't think it would be a good fit for a dining room unless you didn't have a dining room table! I hope you feel better soon. Somtimes I do "just" a Bowflex workout plus walking lunges and squats (I never feel comfortable doing squats on Bowflex for some reason) and sometimes I do it as an add-on to a Cathe workout - especially leg extensions and abs.

Diane Sue - I'm glad your migraine is gone. This must be the week for migraines! I look forward to hearing what workout you do today.

Debbie - have a GREAT rest day!!! And have fun on your deliveries. I love Avon.

Susan - I hope you get rejuvinated soon for that leg workout of yours! Good question on the nail polish. Mine always chips so I rarely wear it.

Dallas - I love Oxygen mag. I finally got a subscription. Okay - I'll go to the doctor for both of us. :) Glad the kiddos are almost better! Yay!!!

Marietta - thanks. And congrats on the "rest" day. It's YOUR rest day and you can do whatever you like with it. Hehehe. Yup - I wear a HR monitor. A typical ride for me would have my HR in the mid 170's. A harder ride with my friends would be in the 170's to 180's and hills 190's (as well as Imax 2!). I know my heart is strong per my cardiologist. But I'm just too winded all the time and then that whole burning thing. It's like my muscles just aren't getting the oxygen they need or something. It just shouldn't be THAT hard for me after all the years I was a runner and now a cyclist. Makes me angry. x( I'm sure if it were something serious I'd have been dead years ago, but if it's something they can do something about it would change my life!

Charlotte - I'm glad you got your grocery shopping done. And a few bicep curls - silly woman! You are the reason I started doing walking lunges, by the way. Thank you!

Hi Terri, Nicole, Christine - hope I didn't miss anyone.

Have a great day everyone. I'm sure I'll be back.

Susan C.M. - I haven't tried the stick on nails yet. Not sure I'm going to. I have a few customers that have ordered it and I told them to keep me updated on how they wear. We shall see.

Dallas - that leg workout sounds really good. I got that Leg issue of Oxygen as well and remember now all the excellent workouts it had in it. I need to go find it. I'm still waiting for this months issue, hopefully today or tomorrow.

Good morning all! I'm so with the TGIF!!! Holy cow! Today is a rest day and DH comes home tomorrow! That will be nice, too even though it will take him a few days to recover from the time difference. Diane Sue - I know exactly what your DH is going through! It hits at the weirdest times, too. I've heard it's 1 day for each hour of difference, so with my DH coming from India which is literally on the other side of the world, it's 12 days... Your DH has to be close to that! And have fun on your inventa-circuit!!

Lora - I workout in the garage, but I used to workout in the family room and know exactly what you mean about it taking a good 15 minutes to set up - drag in the step, then the barbell, then the weights... It was such a pain! Hopefully you can find a solution!

Debbie - enjoy delivering Avon!

Hi Jeanette - you'll get me out on my bike yet! I miss fun singletrack!

Susan - enjoy your leg day. I like leg day too! I feel so worked out!

Marietta - the Half is July 16th. http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1265029 I live in San Jose, CA which is about 1.5 hours away, so we'll stay overnight in Napa. So far there are four of us going - Amyg, Elaine, Thomasina (all from the runner's check in) and myself. Good group, actually, so it should be fun. :) We'd love to have you join us!

Dallas - that glute workout looks wonderful. I'm copying it down!

Suz - 170, 180, 190.....wow.. I don't think I will ever get to that place physically. That's amamzing! What is your resting HR?

Toasty - I emailed you back from work ....so please do check your email. You can email me back at my home addy over the weekend.

Thanks for the Bowflex info, although it bums me out.

Morning ladies,

Today's my day off (I have F, S, Sun of each week) so I get to start my workouts whenever I want. I did Gilad's Cardio Blast and then Bryan Kest's Power Yoga 20 minutes. However, I know my dad and uncle will be coming over pretty soon to pick up a couple of Weber BBQ's we have here for our big BBQ bash tonite. I keep expecting them to show so couldn't entirely relax.

Lora, the Bowflex is probably something I wouldn't want to have in my dining room. The lat tower makes it especially tall, probably about a foot from the ceiling. Hopefully, you'll get some DOMS from MM. I like that one, but haven't done it in a while. I like the slower count of it. I haven't done and Cathe DVD's with the Bowflex cuz the TV is in another room. I just put music on. My next computer (which is in the same room as the Bowflex) will have a DVD player so maybe I will be able to do the Bowflex with Cathe.

Diane Sue, remodeling to make room for more equipment? Actually, my DH would like to add a room on to our house just as a workout/recreation area, which would be nice. He's soooo good at starting projects, but terrible at finishing them. I'm going to make sure he finishes the shop he started 6 years ago. Still doesn't have all the trim on it or been painted yet. Guess I need to crack the whip (but not too hard or he'll bring up my projects that haven't been finished yet ;-)). Let us know what workout you do today. How many years have you been working out? Your physique is fantastic!

Debbie, enjoy your rest day and delivering Avon.

Susan CM, working legs, ugh, I resist those so much and make lots of excuses why I can't. I'm really good at listening to those little lies.

Dallas, another good one for legs too, now I'm feeling guilty. Stretching is exactly what my body craves sometimes. Yeah, nowadays no one shows up with the warm eye bags and scalp massage at my house. Don't think DH will want to.

Marietta, wow, that co-worker of yours is something else! I'd have such a hard time of holding my tongue, I'm afraid. I'm hoping you are able to get off early. I'd probably be out of there already, if I didn't really have to be there. Course I work at a prison, which really isn't a nice place to be.

Charlotte, enjoy that burger for me. I bet you are seeing definition in your arms. You are one strong gal! Hopefully tomorrow morning's work will fly by for you so you can get on with life!

Suz, do you ever have burning in your arms? When I'm really working anaerobically hard hard, my arms will burn, but afterwards when I back off, they won't burn any more. When I did my last time trial, my heart rate was okay at 163, but when I pushed it up to 165 or so, the burning would start, so I'd back off. I think you do need to see the doctor to put your mind at rest. I too sometimes huff and puff going up steps and I'll get a burn in my legs, but that's usually the day after a tough ride. I think that's pretty normal and if I kept working, that burning would clear out and the huffing and puffing would go away. I think that because your DH knows how hard you train and is concerned, you should go to a dr. to check it out. Also, have you tried reducing any other leg workouts? I used to have tired legs when I was doing weight work in between riding, but that's just me. Enjoy your upper body weight work. Do you have a ride this weekend planned? Our weather is supposed to turn colder this weekend. Sunday's ride may be a tad windy, but oh well, we need the miles before next week's century. Don't think I'll need to drag out the booties and balaclavas.

Christine, I like singletrack, but I'm a big chicken when it comes to rocks. I just don't keep my momentum up enough to go thru them easily. Then there is the "possible snake around the next corner" factor that makes me a bit hesitant too. Seriously, I need to do some mtn. bike rides soon. They are fun! Wow, your DH comes home tomorrow. Bet you are excited! The half marathon sounds great, should be fun with all the ladies.

Must get going.

Jeanette

Debbie - my new issue of Oxygen just arrived a few days ago.

Christine - get on that bike! We need another cyclist around here. :)

Lora - My resting HR is about 60 (I wish it was lower). And the good news is that my HR recovers quickly which I know is important.
