HARDCORE CHECK IN WED. 05-26

Good Morning Everyone!

I'm sorry to say that I had to cut out most of my workout this morning. I was up way to late at a family event last night and only got about 4 hours of sleep. I also ate about 4 pieces of pizza, which I NEVER do, but was starving and just couldn't resist. I had IMax 2 Cardio and Weights on schedule, but I only made it about 25 min. I am feeling REALLY run down, sore and tired today - OLD!! LOL I think I will try to do the same workout tomorrow and just continue the rotation through the weekend - we'll see....

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying some nice summer weather. We have T-storms in the forecast for later tonight and tomorrow, but hopefully they will not be as bad as a few weeks ago, or as bad as the ones Diane Sue and Lori had.

Have a great day!

Cheryl

Cheryl-I am with you on the lack of sleep. It's been several nights in a row that I have slept like crap  I hope you get through your day quick :) And the tired thing does not help workouts or eating. I ate like crap yesterday looking for some quick energy and it just made me more tired and pissy :(

Yesterday was cardio and I did KB Surge omitting combo 3 and surge 5. time was 51 min and I burned 466 calories. I was very tired and not really into my workout. I hope to get some good mojo today b/c DH and I are supposed to lift weights again. I don't want to half-ass anything.

Morning Maniacs -

This morning I did Tracy Anderson Original Mat workout with ankle weights. I used wrist weights for the first part of the "unweighted" arm work and then took them off for the last part. I used 3 lbs for the other arm segment.......for some reason this workout kicked my butt today a bit. Not sure what that's all about. My HR was 100-129 and I was sweating with the air on. I added on Squeeze stretch. Workout was 70" and I burned 500 calories.

I work 11-8 today....yuckie. Hope my back holds out. I tried to lean forward more during the leg work today and I kept my legs bent for the ab work (when she straightens). I have to do all the signs, displays and towers today....so I won't be able to catch a break at work.

Have great workouts.

Theresa - What's up with the no sleep, no energy, eating like "crap" stuff? LOL. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired........ I hope that camp will revitalize me over the long weekend. Good luck with your workout with DH today.

Lora- Nice workout today! I hope work isn't too difficult on your back today. That schedule sounds difficult and I hope you don't have to stay on those hours for very long.

Have fun!

Cheryl

So today was cardio. My knee is still bothering me so instead of doing Imax 2 (which was on tap), I decided to do something not as high impact. I also wore my knee strap and that helped a lot. I chose Tracey's Step Sweatfest, but I didn't realize it was only a 30 minute workout. I got it from Netflix. Very fun and easy to learn workout. I was really sweating good with this one. Tracey is cute in this workout. Then I did the step only premix from Step, Jump & Pump. Did the warmup but did it all with higher impact moves. Had fun, I love this step workout.

I also decided to take the time and do the Ab Work from Step, Jump & Pump. So that's cool! Had a hard time with the plank work. It's been a while since I've done planks. I felt like a wimp.

HR STATS (cardio only):
54 minutes total
7 minutes below zone
8 minutes in zone
40 minutes above zone
429 calories burned

Cheryl-I'm not sure what is going on, that was one of the other reasons I went to the doctor. I know the thyroid is causing most of my issues, but I think I am low in progesterone b/c of mild estrogen dominance. I take melatonin at night and I go to sleep that way, but I have trouble staying asleep-I have hot flashes at night, wth? I'm only 31..... Do you have this trouble a lot or was this a rare occurence?

Lora-good calorie burn you got there today :) sound like you will be quite busy at work which will hopefully make the time fly by

Debbie-sorry to hear the knee is still giving you trouble. I wonder what is up w/ that? Have you tried any joint mobility work (like they do in kettlebell training)? I know they had some knee moves that were supposed to help warm up the synovial fluid. Does your knee bother you on colder days or is it more random than that? I was curious about Tracey's step workouts. I have heard Steady State step is a good one too.

Theresa - I'm so bad - I take Nyquil several times a week to help me get to sleep. I also have such a screwy schedule and get up at 2:30 am to get in my workout and walk with the dogs before getting to work. I gave up on trying to workout at night after work, because frankly it just wouldn't happen. I don't have hot flashes (I'm 39) yet, and hope I don't have to deal with that for quite some time..... I also wondered about thyroid issues, especially considering my ravenous appetite and hyperactive - type double A personality- and difficulties with sleeping (or sitting still for that matter). :)

Debbie - That's a bummer about your knee. I had knee trouble for a few months last year and had to modify EVERYTHING - no fun at all, especially when I was well into STS. Anyway, it sounds like you had a great workout. I'm kinda bummed about coming to the last week of this rotation next week. :( I think I am going to start over from the first "Get ready for summer" rotation and do this thing one more time. :) Have a great day.

Ok....gotta get back to work.

Cheryl

started my workout with 10 Minute Solution Kettlebell Ultimate fat burner Max fat burner and Total body segments 22 minutes which includes setting my own zone on my HR monitor 118 cal Max HR 150, then I did Bosu Xpload Load 55 minutes Max HR 153 300. I followed with Tonique lunge track, mat exercises, and stretch 42 minutes 261 calories. I wore 3# ankle weights for some of the mat work. Finished with Lawrence Biscontini Foam roller myofascial and tibialis segment 16 minutes 40 calories.
Felt some weird sensations in my neck and at the back of my throat, also had cramping in my left hamstring so hit the foam roller and did some neck stretches. Not sure where that came from. Total calories burned today was 719. Workout was 2 hr 15 minutes.
Tomorrow I have to take my grandson to school and will have the grandbaby here. I will be taking my car in for a recall repair so I have to get my workout in by 6:15. Doubt I will get Xplode Burst and the Burn Circuits 1,2,&3 in as planned. I will have to see how early I can drag myself out of bed.
I am not sure how long I will keep up the Xplode workouts. There are quite a few moves like planks with straight arms on the stability ball with knee ins etc. and hands jumping on and off the Bosu. My wrists and fingers are starting to ache:confused:

Cheryl - Sorry to hear you are so run down today. Just take it easy and relax this evening. Tomorrow is another day. Actually, my knee isn't that bad, I just don't want to chance a bad injury. I still feel a bit of a pull or whatever you want to call it when I go up the stairs. So step work is something I have to be careful with. The band helped a lot. I'm going to be doing STS again after this rotation.

Theresa - Did you see my post yesterday to you about the difference between StrikeZone and Cardio KB Challenge? Go lookie see. :) Nice workout, I didn't have much energy this morning either until I got started. I hate that.

Lora - Seems this weather makes a huge difference with workouts. I'm sweating so much now that it's more humid out. I love it though. Nice workout. And yes, GH is getting good with all the stuff going on.

Diane Sue - Nice workout today. Sorry to hear about your neck and hamstring, hope they are both feeling better. Don't you hate it when stuff like that just appears. Very frustrating.

Linda - What happened with your MRI? I think I missed the news somehow.

Good Morning -

Good shoulder workout yesterday - included all the Slow and Heavy segments plus some other exercises from Slo Mo. I also got in some cardio. DS’s last day of school was yesterday and he had some buddies over so it was kind of hairy (not in a bad way) around here. Cardio today, I think - maybe a Hiit or premix from E R 1000. Interesting you guys should be mentioning sleep problems. I go in for a sleep study tonight. I’m trying not to dread it - not too excited about it, though. Seems so weird to me  But, maybe it will bring some answers. I had to keep a sleep journal over the last few nights by filling in blocks on a graph where I’m actually asleep. Seeing it that way - wow. Guess I need to do this.

Theresa - I really like the Slow/Heavy Slo Mo mix. It’s quite a change from the pace of the Pyramid workouts. I’ve had night sweats since I was in my twenties  they’re horrible. Sorry you’ve had some rough nights. Hope you catch a second (or first) wind.

Lora - I posted late the other night - don‘t know if you saw. The Baptiste DVD I got is Foundations of Power Vinyassa Yoga. It’s from Yoga Journal's Great Instructors series. I’m all for the dancing 'kick'. I love to dance - used to go out with friends to do just that in my twenties. Now, it’s just around the house while I’m cleaning and listening to music or something. Maybe I’d get more done if I gave up the dancing part, but I probably wouldn’t enjoy cleaning as much :p. Also, I got a catalog from Dragondoor with my last order. It has a few DVD’s that caught my eye (and made me think of you). In particular - Restoring Lost Physical Function with Mark Reifkind. The copy talks about an Olympic athlete who had to end his career due to pain from training injuries. Through corrective strategies that worked with alignment and stretching and things they don’t go into detail about, he apparently was able to make a sort of comeback. “The Secrets of … (shoulder, Hip and Knee, Backside, Primitive Movement Patterns)” series seems to address the same issues: How minor imbalances accumulate into bigger problems and how to correct them. I’d probably buy them if I had the extra $$$ right now. Not sure where you’d find these particular items on the site. I bet they’d send you a catalog if you‘re interested.

Debbie - the 10th must seem like a long way away. So hard when someone you love is hurting that much. Hope your knee continues to recover, at least the weird noises on the stairs are gone. Hopefully that’s a sign it’s on the mend. Good workout today, nonetheless :D

Hermia - Good to hear from you. Sounds like you're still getting in some good workouts. Your schedule takes a lot of your time - and energy. I keep hoping it will ease up for you soon.

Cheryl - Sorry you're having an off day, too. It is NOT because you're "old." Trust me. You're younger than I am and I still haven't grown up yet, therefore logic precludes the possibility ;). Hope you have a good day.

Diane Sue - Incredible workout. You sure got a lot of diverse, tough work in there! :D Too many plank moves get to my wrists, too.

Hope you are all having a good day!

Lori

Lori - Sorry to hear you're still have sleep issues. That is one thing I never have problems with - knock on wood. I sleep like the dead. Every night. I am thankful for that and hope it stays that way. I know so many people with sleeping disorders and I just don't understand it. Hope the sleep study does good for you.

Thank you Debbie. I really appreciate it. I'm almost the opposite of you. I can't imagine what it would be like to sleep a whole night (or even more than a couple hours) without waking up. Isn't that odd? It's been years  . Seeing it on the graph they had me fill out really helped me see -- it's good that I'm taking this step. I go in at 8:30 tonight and get to come home at 5:30 tomorrow morning. That's not too bad, huh? I'll let you know how it goes.

Debbie-I did see that yesterday but forgot to let you know I saw it  Thanks for your feedback :)

Lori-good luck on your sleep study. I really hope they can help you. sleep is such an underrated thing until you don't get it. I am going to try the bioidentical progesterone cream and see if that helps. It can't hurt :p I'm glad you are liking your new rotation.

Debbie - Sorry that your knee your still bothering you. Hopefully if you continue to go easy it will heal up. As far as my MRI the Physcian's Assistant said the injury "looked like you tried to dislocate your shoulder". Fortunately he did not think it was severe enough to recommend immediate surgery. He gave me another injection, requested that I modify chest work even more than I already am and said they'd see me back in 3 weeks. Then I will see the doctor and if I am still in pain they will discuss my options.

Cheryl - Sorry you had a bad night. Had that the night before 2 am I was still awake! Hope you recover.

Theresa - Sorry you are still having issues with your thyroid.

DianeSue
- Be careful you maniac. You certainly don't want a injury!

Lora
- Hope your back starts to feel better.

Lori
- I can't believe DS in done school, my DS goes until the 23rd of June! Sorry about the hail storm troubles.

Yesterday I was tired because I had trouble sleeping and my shoulder was aching from the shot so I did Hiit 30/30 but didn't really move my arms much.

Today I tried my first Tonique workout. I did Tonique 2 Disc 1 and I could not believe how hard I worked through out that video. I mean I think I lost at least 5# in sweat alone. To watch it, it seems easy, but doing it is a whole 'nother story!

Forgot to add, I worked in the yard today moving the rest of the plants for the pool area and think I lost another 5# of sweat!

My son in law called and now I am watching my grandbaby. So not going to get everything accomplished that I planned. I think I will take her outside and trim the climbing roses and weed the back. I wanted to work on some glass painting and clean house. It sure lit a fire under me after he called:D I got the house vacuumed and mopped and the sheets put on the bed before they arrived. I was so tired and my head and neck were aching so I took some aspirin and fell asleep for 30 minutes:eek: Don't usually have that opportunity.

Cheryl, I hope your storms are not like ours. Sorry you didn't get much sleep. I can't work out on 4 hrs of sleep either. For a few years I worked out around midnight and then went to bed. I don't know how I did that because I am so doggone tired in the evenings I know it would never happen now.

Theresa, I don't know what to tell you about not sleeping. I know sometimes medications and alcohol will cause something that feels like hot flashes. Maybe you should read up on the melatonin. That stuff gave me horrible nightmares to the point I was afraid to fall asleep at night. I did have hot flashes in my 40's which was kind of young but due to the hysterectomy I had in my 30's I guess it made things move along faster.

Debbie, sorry about the knee. I am trying to think which workout is Tracey's Sweatfest Step. I am sure I have it. I will have to go look:) Always nice when someone reminds me of something I haven't done in awhile. I really don't know where that neck thing came from. I think doing Tonique with the ankle weights and weights over my hips after the lunges is what caused problems with my hamstrings. I stopped near the end and removed the ankle weights because my left hamstring was cramping. There was lots of leg work in the load workout so they were pretty fatigued. Surprisingly it feels ok now. I think foam rolling it out was just what I needed.

Lori, they did have that Mark Reifkind dvd at Amazon but I looked and they have it listed but do not have any available right now. Someone else had recommended them to me once. I hope the sleep study works for you.

Linda - I'm still not used to the school years here  I remember getting out in June, too. I've heard a lot about Tonique (I think mostly through this check-in). I'd sure like to get it - or them - does it come in a set? How many workouts are there?

Diane Sue - Glad the foam roller helped. I've used mine a couple times and definitely found some spots that needed work (ouch). I always feel so much better - looser - more relaxed even - after I use it. Thanks for letting me know about Amazon. I know Dragondoor has them in stock but they're pretty pricey. Less expensive than medical bills, though. That's a factor if they really help. The "Secret's of ..." series has specialized DVD's for about every ailment that's graced this check-in. I'm curious about them, too. Even "Enter The Kettlebell" gave me some pointer's that have helped me with my shoulder's - and I haven't even really had problems with them (knock on wood). Hope you get some time to work on your glass painting soon :D

I did Hiit Pyramid today. Would have liked to do more but DS needed me - then my neighbor came to tell me another storm's coming with reports of more tornado and hail conditions (maybe baseball size this time). *Sigh* I'm just not going to fret about it. DS finds this stuff sort of thrilling, so at least I haven't heard "I'm bored" - yet. Maybe it will miss us. That would be good.

Lori

Linda, I am being careful. I definitely do not want an inujury.

Lori, those workouts are pretty expensive. From what I understand it is pretty much animation but works well.
