Hard Core Yoga Poses

Can anyone reccomend a yoga DVD that will help me to learn some of the harder yoga poses, like the Scorpian, and peacock pose. I mean, man those look mega hard! Cirque de Solel hard! I'm pretty flexible, I can do a side split and touch my chest flat to the ground, I used to do ballet back in the day when gas was $1.00 a gallon and leg warmers were in style. I'm putting that on my goal of to do's along with a pull up. I can only pull myself up once. Anyway, I would appreciate any advice from any yoga experts out there. Many thanks in advance.

Shiva Rea's "Yoga Shakti" addresses handstand and feathered peacock. If you like arm balances, she has others in there too that are fun to play with. I have not seen Scorpion on a DVD practice.

I would be careful with these poses. You need both serious upper body strength and little fear of falling to work on these. Trying to get into these poses before you're ready could lead to shoulder issues (I speak from experience here).

I stopped practicing Scorpion and plan on coming back to it after I've developed more arm strength. It certainly is a fun pose!

Great suggestion with Shiva's Yoga Shakti.

Try pranamaya's Tripshicore Yoga too. I dont know if it has the specific poses you want but a great blend of dance and yoga. At least the clips will be well worth your time :

I am too overawed to even get this DVD.

Also check out Maha Sadhana 2.

Dharma Mittal is 70 years old. Can you believe that?

David Swensons Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series is another great DVD for advanced poses. It looks dated, but boy is it advanced on both flexibility and strength. I can never get myself to even try to work along with this DVD. I just stare at it open mouthed and feel very inadequate. It is a representation of the classic ashtanga sequencing of Pattabhi Jois.

Tony Sanchez has Yoga Challenge 1, 2, and 3. I only have 1 so I don't know about the others but it is challenging. This is not a flow yoga but a practice where you hold each asana and then move on to the next. They have them on amazon and I believe they are sold thru someone else.

Thanks everyone! I'll be checking everything out that was suggested. I totally agree with what laughingwater said about being very careful. I'm thinking of taking classes with an actual class and instructor that can help tell me when I'm ready to take it up to the next level. I never used to make time for yoga/pilates. I do take ballet once a week, but I did this yoga workout on my Comcast on demand and it was pretty good. I'm hooked and realized that yoga is not just about tranquil music. It takes some serious flexibility and strength. My hats off to all you hard core yoga enthusiasts.
