Hand pain

Hello Cathe. I have a question regarding weight training. When I lift, I have pain through my left palm. I don't feel it in my wrist, but through the meaty part of my palm just under the thumb. Does this sound familiar at all to you? Someone suggested a wrist guard and I was wondering what your expertise might tell me. I really feel it fairly severely during chest presses with a barbell. Thanks for any tips and I do hope all is well in your life.
 
I have had this too--right where you say you have it and I felt it when I did chest presses. I figured it was bruising because it went away after I left the area alone. I felt it after S&H, emphasis on heavy, presses. Why shouldn't heavy weight placed on that spot with pushing in the other direction hurt the muscle? I figured I should uses gloves just to provide some cushioning (but I still haven't gotten them.). Jeanne
