Hamstring Injury

Hi everyone,

I have been bad and a couple weeks ago as I was doing HIIT on the treadmill I strained my hamstring. I figured it couldn't be to bad so I have kept on working out. I am thinking though that I may need to take some time off but am afraid to since I am enjoying my routine right now.

How have you trained through an injury? Do you completely do nothing or do something like yoga/pilates?

I am thinking maybe as a warmup to bike for around 15 minutes and then do some yoga for about 30 minutes.

I can usually really feel it when I am walking. I just want it to heal without needing to go to the doctor.

Thanks
Rhonda

I still trained when I had a stressline fracture in my foot. I didn't do any cardio or lunges. Instead I did lots of upper body work and abs. I also did some lower body work; I only did squats and floor work that didn't involve any stress to my one foot.

I kept working out when I injured my low back but the problem kept getting worse and worse. So I finally took three weeks off and really haven't had many problems since.

I had a hamstring injury as well...tried to work through it and made matters worse. You should really allow your body to heal...I wish I had listened to my body sooner than I did. Your body is telling you something and you really, really need to listen...

Take care,

I'd give it a rest. Maybe some light walking or stretching, as long as you feel no strain, and go ahead with the upper body workouts. I've had knee injuries and shin splints, and trying to work through them was a bad idea. I tried it, made things worse, and then tried to push it too early and ended right back where I started. Pain is the body's way of telling you to BACK OFF. Take it easy now, and it'll take you less time to heal.
