Haiti...

Amy, that's great news. I'm so happy for you. :)

I've been watching CNN and it's so heart breaking seeing the proverty of these people and what they must be going through. I couldn't even imagine. :( It's so so sad. :(

Amy, thank goodness! I'm so glad they're okay.

Jennie, sending out positive thoughts for your sister-in-law's family.

My friend sent us an update on FB yesterday. He was in the Dominican Republic, and should be flying into Miami today.

I was watching the news this morning, and there is so much heartbreak in all of this, and, thankfully, there are stories of such humanity, strength, and hope. It's just so overwhelming and amazing.

My SIL's sisters have been found and are o.k., along with the orphans my brother has been taking care of for years. YAY. :)

It is heart wrenching to watch the coverage, but necessary to understand the enormity of it. All those people that survived the initial quake but are "waiting to die" due to lack of doctors/supplies. So tragic.

Has anyone done the text donation to Haiti?

Heidi

Yes. I sent the word Haiti to 90999 last week.

Me too, I did the Red Cross text donation several times. I saw that the major cell phone carriers (at&t, verizon, sprint) are waiving texting fees for those who don't have texting plans. I also saw that they are forwarding the $$ immediately (not waiting for people to pay bills first) and trusting that people will pay their bills on time.

I don't get why so few people have posted on this thread, or on my other thread about how to text donations. This is one of the worst natural disasters in recorded history. People are suffering so much, it's unspeakable. I don't understand the lack of reaction.

Amy, I was wondering the same thing. There are many threads on here that get a hell of a lot more attention then this thread has gotten. I'm sure people care. At least I hope they do. How can you not care about something so devestating?

Good question, Jennie. I have no idea. By the way, I read that article you linked to about your brother. What a sweet story that is. What an awesome husband, and human being, to travel to utter devastation to help people in need. We need more people like him in this world.

My no frills cell plan won't allow this, but if you donate at the Red Cross web site, you can specify where you want the donation to go. They have a list of funds with Haiti as one of them.

I donated to Doctors Without Borders which focuses on medical care, which in this case is so tragically needed. I don't think a lack of posting means people don't care - I just think people don't have much to say. I think most people do care (with the exception of a few blowhard radio/tv types who are evil to their core). Face it - what can you say about a situation like this. Where do you begin? It's almost unfathomable.
