Hair Removal...(whispering)...Down There

May I suggest a Brazilian Wax kit that you do yourself at home. I believe it's put out by Sally Hansen and it can be found at Sally's Beauty Supply or Walmart (where the other waxing products are). It does hurt really bad the first time you do it but it seems to get better each time. Of course, some areas are more tender than others and you may want to just do sides and top to begin with. DH said I looked like I had a Hitler mustache the first time I used it. Once you start doing it, you will not want to go back to shaving as there is absolutely no comparison. I am curious about the epilator. Will have to check on those as the wax can get kind of messy as you have to heat it in the micro. One word of caution is that once you put it on, you have absolutely no choice in turning back. It's only coming off one way!

I'm with you Karen.....It's all about the WAX! and I too, do it at home. I use wax stripes (no hot wax to mess with).

Karen...all I can say is hail no (That's Texan for hell no)! I tried this once and ended up running around the house with a wax strip attached, screaming in agony. And you can't really go to the neighbor's house and ask for help. And Brazilian?!? I would have to be a contortionist in Cirque de Soleil to reach (whispering) there...let alone apply wax and strips, etc.

I love love love ya for having the courage to do at-home-Brazilians but I would rather be one of those women on "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" who delivers her surprise baby on the bathroom rug.

LOL crumpgirl, so true, there is no turning back once you put it on!! but i could never wax myself, i am too chicken. spread eagle at the spa is so much more fun?!?! lol. but seriously, i agree with you and spicegirl... there is no comparison, the results from waxing are 100x better. you are actually completely SMOOTH for a week or so and even once re-growth occurs, it is nothing like the stubbly itchy bumpy mess from shaving.

one person mentioned bumps after waxing... make sure to go to someone who uses the hard european-style wax that comes off in one piece rather than the hot wax with strips. also, when re-growth is occuring, exfoliate that area (well really just the front where we are prone to reactions) often. it helps to prevent ingrown hairs. i woud think it would help with ingrowns for those of you who shave, as well...

Wax on, wax off!!
Find a really good spa that uses strip-free wax (also known as hard-wax or lavendar wax) and you'll be set. It really doesn't hurt - especially after the first time or two. It's a little more shocking than anything the first time. But it does make a difference in the asethetician - some are better than others. Once you've done it, you'll never go back. It's like the difference between bathing and not bathing.
Oh, there is also a product called TendSkin which you can apply with a cotton ball between waxings (or shaving) to manage bumps. DO NOT do it the day you have the "work" done.
Bon chance!!

Jonezie.....You're hysterical!!!! You gotta be QUICK! with the pulling motion. Yes, there's a ouch :eek:involved........and yes, the more you do it and less ouch there is......

I'm still laughing.....

Faith, Which brand do you use? The Hansen brand is the hard wax type that smells like honey.
It does hurt less and less as you do it girls. I usually don't get substantial regrowth for 5-6 weeks. As far as being able to see, you just have to learn to put one leg up over your head while standing on the other in front of a big, full length mirror! Yoga helps with this! :)

epilator

I too use an epilator for all my hair removal. I have used it on my legs for almost 20 years. Then I started using it on other areas. After a while, it stops hurting and leaves you smooth for a long time. I had to use an epilator on my armpits cause I would have a five o'clock shadow. My legs were just as bad; now I have very litthe hair. Would never use anything else. Good luck!

I worry when people say it stops hurting- does that mean there's permanent nerve damage and you've lost all feeling in the area? :p

I wonder if it is like spinning classes. After a while (I am told anyway), "the area" isn't sore anymore. Why? Do you build calluses in "the area"??

Karen....Unfortunately the brand I use was from Avon....which has been discontinued. Before they discontinued them i stocked up and then recently I bought some on E-Bay....so, I'm set for awhile. Good to know Sally Hansen has pretty much the same thing.

Carrie & Morningstar.....I think honestly, and I know it sounds funny, but in some weird way i guess you just get used to it. No nerve damages and no calluses. I think it's mostly in your head regarding the pain.....just let that GO and give it a whirl......hee hee!!!!
