just got these--surprised they are only 45 minutes-- thought they would be an hour.

chest--- says to use thumbless grip--- what is that--thumb by fingers- not around bar?

bands-- not sure if i like these-- tougher than i thought--- interested in other's thoughts.

The bands are a surprise when first using them, but as you continue with them you really start to appreciate the burn they give you.:)

Yes, a thumbless grip is where your thumb is next to your fingers and doesn't go around the bar.

I love this series especially back, shoulders and biceps. Those are my favorite body parts to work. The band is very effective, especially in the shoulder section.
 
I just got this series 10 days ago, and I'm in the middle of my second time through each disc. I'm getting a way better workout the second time through - probably because I kind of know what to expect + which weights to use. The bands are tough! I looks like you are getting a break when you take out the bands, but I have learned I need to grit my teeth when the bands come out.

I think the new STS series are going to all be under an hour as well. I know what you mean, it seems like I'm not working hard enough if I work out less than an hour. You can always add abs to that day, and that brings it almost to an hour.

I love gym style. It has really helped me with definition and strength. As far as the band is concerned, whenever Cathe tells us to take out the band I've learned to be afraid, be very afraid. The band really makes me burn in such a good love to hate way. It takes a little getting used to but once you do, you'll love how that band just gets right into that muscle. I usually do 1 hour of cardio followed by 1 of the gym style workouts. 45 minutes may not seem like a lot but when your working only 2 body parts, like the tricep and chest, you start to realize that 45 minutes is nice and plenty long enough for you to feel it.

I am new to Cathe and to working out! Yesterday I did my first ever Cathe dvd, Gym Style Chest and Triceps and today I did GS Legs! Wow!!!! I was able to stick with the C & Tri for the most part. Although I had to do girly push ups and was trembling at the end!!! Legs were tougher. I had a hard time managing the ball from rolling away from me. It must have looked pretty comical. I am going to stick with it even though they are advanced dvds. They are VERY challenging for me right now but once I am able to do them and at Cathe's level I will feel so accomplished! I am going to do cardio tommorrow and probably take Sunday off. I would love any suggestions any of you more experienced women may have!
 
I recently bought all 3 of the gym style dvd's and absolutely love them! Wow..what a rush they give your muscles. I did the leg dvd today and it was great! I had done the chest & tri dvd last week and it took 4 days for the soreness to go away! The second time was better! I will definately keep doing these in rotation every week...
 
I am a big fan of the Gym Styles workout out. I think there is a place for GS in every's DVD workout library.

I am also a fan of the band. OO the band gives such a nice burn. you have to make sure you are using the right resistance though or it won't be as effective.
 
Does the resistance band come with the gym style series (green band that Cathe uses in her DVD's). Is it of medium tension.

The resistance band does not come with the gym style series. You can purchase the band at www.fwonline.com. I get the Theraband kind. Just make sure that you get the 6 foot band. Yes, I would say that the green band is medium tension.

Where did I miss that it said to use thumbless grips? Geez, I usually use thumbless, but haven't on GS chest workouts.

The bands, ahhhh, the bands. KILLER!
 
I believe the thumbless grip is for the chest presses with the barbell. It's the last chest exercise before the tricep work.
 
Duh - the close grip bench press. Yes, I use thumbless. Although I always have considered that as more of a triceps exercise with a little bit of chest thrown in.
