RE: Hi Debra
I will explain why ordering from the US is so expensive. Here are the reasons:
1. The Canadian dollar is at about .64 or .65 on a good day lately. That means if I order something from the US which is $100, it then becomes $160 for me in Candian money.
2. The exchange is bad enough but then we get charged duty on items we order from the US unless it is listed as a gift and as you know, companies and corporations have a pretty hard time mailing out "gifts" to people for which they have paid. Years ago, my father sent me a gold ring and forgot to put "gift" on it and I had to pay $50 just to get it out of the Post Office!
Things like free trade and the NAFTA agreement have so far not helped out the average Canadian consumer shopping in the states, at least not the last time I ordered anything from the US. If it were not for CK Sales, my video collection would be somewhat (who am I kidding) very thwarted.
Further, last year when I was in Vegas, I found that a pair of jeans, for example, would cost $60 American and back in Canada, the same pair of jean was also $60. So for my Canadian buck, shopping in the US is just not feasible.
As for the sun setting and rising, this morning, it rose at 9:09 a.m. and it will set close to 4:34 p.m. After December 21, as you know, the days will start to get longer again. I am fairly far up north and in the summer, the sun is up at 4:30 or earlier and does not set until 10:00 p.m. That of course is around the summer solctice in June.
