Great Mat = Slippery Shoes?

I just used my "Great Mats" mat to do a step tape for the first time. I was surprised to find that the bottoms of my shoes are slipping on the top of the step. I never had that problem when I wasn't using the mat. Something about the mat surface seems to be polishing the bottoms of my shoes and making them slippery. Anyone else notice this? Have any solutions? Thanks.

Hi. I got the mats too after all the talk about them and I also had a big problem with slipping. I couldn't even do static lunges the first couple of times because my back foot kept sliding. I went over them with the vaccum and I also used the wet swifter on them and I don't seem to have any more trouble now. I don't know whether these two things helped or if they just lost their slipperiness after using them for a few weeks, but its worth a try. Hope that helps. Valerie

Hi Lisa!

How are you? Good to see you here! I don't have the Great Mats. I think that is the brand HB bought. Just wondering...is there a powdery substance on the mats? If so, that could be the problem. Maybe, try wiping the mats off with a damp cloth to remove the residue & see if that helps??? Like I said, I don't have them, but it's worth a try. We need to get together & go on another roadtrip sometime!

RE: Hi Lisa!

I've never had a problem with the mats, just getting taggled up with my own feet once or twice.

RE: Hi Lisa!

I don't know what a Great mat is, but I've heard to wash new yoga mats with soapy water, so it's probably the same deal.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I definitely will go give my mat a good washing.

And "Hi There" to DebbieH and Honeybunch. All is well here in this little section of NEO. Busier than ever, but having fun. Hope you're both well.
