great make-up

I just had to share my new make-up find. I have skin that breaks out easily and I think I finally found the perfect foundation.

I am using Jane Iredale's Pure Pressed Base. It's a mineral make-up with an SPF of 17 (I think). It blends so well into my skin, conceals my problem areas, and doesn't look like I have a mask on. And it doesn't make me break out. The Disappear concealer is also fantastic. Covers up blemishes unbelievably.

For reference, I've tried other mineral make-ups - Bare Escentuals made me break out and made my pores look huge. Philosophy's Supernatural looked great and seemed to work with my skin tone in spite of only offering 2 colors, but the applicator got kind of gross.

If anyone wants more info, check out makeupalley.com. I bought mine at skin-etc.com.

Thanks for listening - my husband just wouldn't understand...

Now if I could only find the perfect moisturizer that wouldn't break me out!

WJ,

I also use JI's pure pressed base and will never use another foundation. It's the best for breakout prone oily skin.

You might want to try Clinique's dramatically different moisturing GEL (not the lotion). I haven't broken out from it at all.

I started a thread on this at the Ya Ya's (ya-ya spa) titled Anyone use Mineral Make-up, or something like that.
FYI... Bare Minerals, Youngblood, and Jane Iredale use Bismuth Oxychloride which is acengenic and comedogenic-it is an irritant, clogs pores, and can cause break-outs. They also put illuminators in their powder foundation which isn't good for oily skin-makes you look shiny.
There are other brands that are much less expensive ($8-12 for a full size 30 gram jar!) and don't use BO or put illuminators in their make-up (it is sold separately for those who want it).
Here are some links (they all sell samples!)

By the way, a great moisturizer that won't break you out is Eucerin (Clear Skin Formula) Skin Renewal with SPF15. I LOVE this moisturizer-it contains an alpha hydroxy that takes away any dead/dry skin cells and doesn't clog pores or cause break-outs!!

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about trying Bare Essentials, but I went to Jane Iredale's web site and I liked what I saw. I think I will buy one of her foundations to be sure that I like it and if I do....look out!:)

I have found a great moisturizer through a company that is based in Japan using olive oil as a base for most all there products.

It is called DHC Skincare and you can find them at www.dhccare.com

I just LOVE their 100% virgin olive oil moisturizer. It is the only thing that stays on my skin and doesn't make my skin feel dry 2 sec. after putting it on. And it also doesn't break your face out either. Your makeup goes on smoother and you use less of it because it blends so well with the oil as a base for it to go on over. They also carry what's called "Velvet Skin Coat" and it goes on after the moisturizer and it makes your skin feel like velvet and your makeup just glide on with ease.

Humm I preached a book about this stuff but I am sold on it and really love it alot!!!

Hope you find something that works for you!!:D

Oh no! Not my Bare Escentuals!

>For reference, I've tried other mineral make-ups - Bare
>Escentuals made me break out and made my pores look huge.

Ok wait wait. This totally makes sense now. I've been using Bare Escentuals make-up since January 2004. I have tried a lot of brands (Clinique, Prescriptives, just to name a few). I normally use their foundation, mineral veil, and warm radiance (when I'm going for the "natural look"). I have never looked so natural and healthy with make-up on. So of course I bought more and more and more.

My skin without make-up however has taken a bad turn. My pores look larger, I have been getting whiteheads and blackheads in places I never thought I'd get them (this is normal in my T-zone, but now I've been getting them in my cheeks -yuck!-), and my rosacea looks so much worse (now I have red patches all over my face and it used to be only in my t-zone and a little bit on my cheeks).

I was freaking out the other day and called my mom. I said this must be because I'm approaching 30 right? She said but you take such good care of your skin! I ruled it out as aging, but she said could it be (gasp!) your makeup? I said no way, I pay a lot for my makeup. It's natural mom, mineral makeup. I clean my brushes every week. I just don't know what's going on.

I'm running out of mineral veil and foundation and after reading your thread now I don't know if I should buy another brand instead and see if my skin improves. Now I'm in the search of the perfect foundation and loose powder (yet again!). I have to admit this is a little bit frustrating.

RE: Oh no! Not my Bare Escentuals!

I love the DHC deep cleansing oil too calico. I've been using it for years. I love the way it takes off any makeup and still leaves my skin feeling great.

RE: Oh no! Not my Bare Escentuals!

Ooooh another DHC lover, isn't their stuff just wonderful. Kinda wish I had found it sooner!!

Have a great day!!:D :7

RE: Oh no! Not my Bare Escentuals!

Thanks for the tip.

I found a great liquid makeup for cheap. Almay Skin Stays clean. Awesome! Good as any department store brand that I have used.

DeeDee and Rose11 - If you don't have a place that sells Jane Iredale nearby, the website where I bought my products from, skin-etc., sells sample sizes for $3 so you don't have to invest a lot to find the right color and see if it works with your skin. I found that the shades are forgiving - that I could use a few different colors.

quest4fitness - thanks for the info. If the JI doesn't work out for me in the long run, I'll check out the links you gave me and try a mineral makeup without bismuth oxychloride.

Everyone else - thanks for the moisturizer suggestions. I hope one of those works for me!
