Good lesson learned!!!

OK - call me "stupid"!!! I woke up this morning feeling really good and barely any symptoms from this agonizing cold, so I set out to run my 9 miles. Now, I know-I know, I should've listened to all of your good advice that I should've rested this weekend and got back into the training this coming week, but it just killed me to think of all the calories I'm missing out on burning, the extra WW points I could eat AND that awesome feeling of finishing a long run.

Well - not only did I have to walk after 7-1/2 miles, I stopped sweating and got cold (bad sign, I know), and was so dehydrated I really thought I was going to pass out. I did leave a bottled water on the side of the road halfway and that was a lifesaver. I'm positive I would've been in serious trouble had I not had that water there to drink. I also ran over noon so, of course, the hottest time of the day AND I hardly had anything to eat before I ran. Now - is this a disaster waiting to happen or what???? Why couldn't I see this coming??? UGHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm FINALLY (4 hours later) feeling better and my stomach doesn't hurt so bad anymore. My cold symptoms don't seem any different, but I'm trying to find something to eat, but nothing sounds good. I know I should eat something.

OK - I feel better now, I just had to confess that to all of you and I will NEVER DO THIS AGAIN!!!!!

Thanks for listening to me go on and on and on...... :) Marcia.

Glad you are okay now. Sometimes we forget to lean on the side of common sense. I know I am guilty of it!

I think a lot of us have done similar things, Marcia! I'm glad you're feeling better now.

I once went for my first 10 miler, then went straight to the mall afterwards (gross, I know, but it was on my way home!) and I tried on a few things and was so excited because I was fitting into size 6 instead of 8! So the next week I had to go back and return it all, because I was so dehydrated I had shrunk, and when I rehydrated none of the sixes fit. :(

Have you ever run with 1/2 gatorade, 1/2 water before? I found that really helped. I hate running with food in my stomach, but you get out of it what you put into it as Cathe says. After you're feeling better, give that combo a shot!

Good luck, and again, I'm glad you're feeling better now!!

Are you crazy? Running after noon!!! Did that cold get to your head? Do you have a heatstroke with your name on it? Or perhaps you have a death wish!!
Crazy! Crazy! Crazy! Do not do this to yourself. You know better! Glad that you are feeling better though!

Marcia,

Glad your okay, and yes, that was very very dumb, and hopefully you'll never do that again to yourself. You really should have gotten to the ER and got pumped full of fluid if you were feeling that bad after the run and not sweating. As heat sickness can last for days, and you'll feel good at night but once that sun comes out you won't feel so good. Do call your doctor if that happens tomorrow, and tell them what you did. They maybe able to give you special salt tablets to take that have stuff other then salt in them, that helps rehydrate you. A lot of our sports players have them here, when they heat gets up too high and it's a long drawn out game, they'll take them after the game and it helps a lot. But I'm unsure if you got to be an athletic or not to get them.

But seriously when your sick sit down, as your brain is also sick and common sense no longer seems to work at times. And don’t worry about the calories, your burning them fighting off the cold, if your not, you’ll gain a pound and the moment you feel better and can actually get up and do normal things again at a normal pace it’ll fall right off.
