Good Article

ok-- I am even MORE confused!
After reading on VF about all these wonderful results everyone is having with hi rep/lo weight training (definition, lean loook, etc)
the thought that anything other than heavy weight, high intensity training might be a waste of time.. well, it's an old argument.

I have been exercising 15 years, and I STILL dont know which road to take. I guess I like all types of training, (interval cardio, lond cardio, moderate intensity, light lifting, heavy and slow, etc) but most importantly, I like getting results for the time I put in.
I found the most appealing (to my eyes, anyway) changes with lots of intense interval cardio, and light to moderate hi rep weight work.

I have in fact trained slow and heavy for 6 week cycles at a time (havent done this in about 2 years, tho) and only got thicker, and couldnt control my appetite! dang genetics!

I want so desperately to believe there is a "one size fits all" way of working out , which is basically what I get from the article. oy.

I'm thru with my nonsensical rant now. off to do floorwork with light ankle weights, and Cathe PUB! (which by the way, is a masterpiece!)

I still don't have my PYRAMIDS, thanks to Canada Post.
I intend to grumble about that until I get them.
As for the article, it's information. :p You sound just as frustrated as me! Endurance or S&H? Lots of cardio or no cardio?
For me I have noticed that PS once a week with 2 cardios give me better results than when I do more cardio. I think it is true that you have to find the right balance that works for you. You can't do both at the same time: Lose weight and gain muscle. What I liked about the article is that it stresses REST and that you don't need to kill yourself adding more and more to your routine.:9

R Lam,
Thanks so much for the article. I really enjoyed reading it and copied it for some friends. Interesting, but always makes you feel like you are wasting your time, even with Cathe!!! But I know what the article is saying and think many women would benefit greatly if they just upped the weight a bit.. Keep em coming!!

Oops! I wrote the wrong thing here. I wrote about agelesstraining.com (the mom and daughter weight lifters). They have an interesting website and a DVD video out on weight training for women. It's got decent info but a bit boring on the workout parts.

Anyway, back to the article... this article is very interesting... there are so many theories - and the one variable that you cannot assume is that everyone is the same. I have a friend who does great with low weights / high reps and really drops sizes and tones up. Me, I do better with heavier weights for several weeks followed by 1 or 2 weeks of high rep / lower weights (i.e. Power Hour) for a fantastic overall look. I've never been ripped (I like some foods too much - like an occasional slice of pizza), but I am working on eating cleaner. (Even so, I've lost nearly 30 pounds since the fall of 2001 and I like the leaner me!)
