Hi Cathe...and anyone else out there that can help me...I have a question...how do you start lifting heavier...I can go about 12 pounds (i know i'm a weakling) but want to lift heavier...how does one go about that...I can barely get all the reps out with 12 pounds..I just purchased your pure strength dvd but wanted to see if i could get this question answered first before i begin. Thanks so much...:)

Whine all you want, just never say you can't!:D :*

Hi!

when you say you can go about 12 lbs, what are you doing with 12 lbs? That would make a big difference if you are a "weakling" or not. Just kidding.

Seriously, the only way to get stronger is to push yourself through the burn. When you feel like you can't do one more rep, try to do one more anyway. ALWAYS being very careful of your form & paying attention to the burn. Ask yourself, "is the burn because I'm lifting heavy or because it is hurting me?" If the burn is because you are hurting yourself, STOP. Ok, I know, "duh." But seriously, there is a difference between "oh man, the burn is killing me," and "OH MAN, I JUST TORE MY BICEP!"

Once you get to the point where you can complete all 3 sets in Pure Strength, then it's time to increase the weights.

And by the way, I have been doing this for 2 years & can only do 10 lb curl! So, you are by no means a weakling. Maybe more of a fitness goddess than I am! LOL

Your by no means a "weakling." Anybody that can accomplish a Cathe tape is advanced. Your definitely right now at 12#s challenging yourself because you stated that you can "barely get all the reps out w/12." That's a good thing. What I would do is try your utmost to eek out 1 to 2 more reps w/each set. If its not happening, then just stick to what your now doing until it becomes easy. Once that happens, this is the time to increase but only you can decide how much more of an increase your going to be able to do. That may be only 2#s more; you may not be ready to jump to 15. Sometimes going from 12 to 15 is a big jump. So experiment w/adding more reps to your sets & let me know how your progressing. HTH, Kathy:)

What they said.

Also, pick up your 15's and just do 3 reps. Do this a few times. Then go back to your 12's.

Gradually, gradually increase the reps with 15. Go back to 12, take rest days, do entire workouts with 8-10, then try 20's for 3 to 4 reps. Et cetera. That is one way to get up there.
