My cousin asked me to be godmother to her son! So, what do I do? Do I ask to help her by buying him something for the christening? Or do I buy a gift? I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I really don't know what's expected of me!
i think every family may have their own traditions. i come from a large italian family, and it's been the tradition that the godmother buys the christening outfit, and the godfather buys the baby's first cross. i'm sure your cousin will be thrilled with whatever you do!
Being Catholic, I got my godson (nephew) a child's rosary as a baptism gift. I think just a token gift is fine, it doesn't have to be extravagant or costly. Accepting to be a godparent is actually gift enough!
It's not rude. In fact, I shopped for the Christening outfits with the Moms. I know my sisters and Mom wanted to have input on the outfits. It was a bonding time for all of us.
