Gmail-Is this hacking or real?

I opened my gmail account today. At the top, in red, there was a warning. It said something like this: Warning. We believe your account was recently accessed by the United States gove (treas.gov). It wasn't in the emails, but on top of them.

Is this for real or is it a scam? I ignored it but I'm just wondering if you know anything about this.

Thanks!

It doesn't sound like hacking to me. Sounds more like a virus.

Do you have security software on your computer? Like Norton Anti-virus or AVG security?

If you do, you need to run it ...

Norton and AVG are both good. I use AVG now and I have it set to run every night.. in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping... to find and get rid of any problems like viruses...

You can pick up a computer virus from email attachments from unknown persons/companies and/or from infected websites. You should never open an email attachment from someone you don't know.. and you need to be careful what websites you visit..

Hope that helps..

and yes... it's a falsehood.... a scam.... and probably a virus..

Don't open it!! Don't click on any of those links! Its a virus! Put it in your spam filter. Check your computer for anything that might have loaded itself onto your computer.
