Glucosamine - alot of people taking it or not?

hi!

I'm just curious is all. I have never really had knee problems, but since I have started doing step, I have felt --well I dont even want to say soreness in my knees, but "something" a little bit. So I decided I'd try taking this stuff and see if it helps.

I just wondered if alot you you take it, since you all work out alot. I started taking it a couple years ago when my knees bothered me when I would do my tapes (mostly lunges). Other than that, I have good knees, and don't want to make them bad! The glucosamine seemed to help before (at least I think it did, the pain went away).. This time I dont really have pain, maybe more the feeling that it could become pain. That sounds goofy, doesn't it?? :)

Aaah, knee problems are near & dear to my heart. Just last year I blew out my knee during a morning workout. While the injury did not require surgery, two months of PT put me out of commission. I started taking glucosamine, condroitin and MSM daily. I do believe it helps, but I do monitor my workouts when I need to.

How many risers do you use for step? I've dropped down from 8" to 6" and the workout intensity is the same. Lunges also kill my knees, but if I lunge on the step, it doesn't hurt as much.

If your knees still give you problems, it wouldn't hurt to check it out with an orthopaedist. Sometimes a benign pain could lead to something bigger if left unchecked. Good luck!!

Hi, I started taking it a couple of months ago because I figured it couldn't hurt and I was getting close to 40. I really think taking it has helped w/my recovery from my broken elbow. At my three-week post injury appt last week, my orthopedist told me that I've recovered almost all of my range of motion. He said that he has another patient with exactly the same injury---hers happened six months ago and she STILL cannot straighten her arm. I can straighten mine, touch my nose, etc. Of course, being active and having been fit prior to the injury also helped. Suzanne

I've been using it now for quite some time (1.5 years) and I know it's made a difference for me. I actually got cheap one time and went off of them for 3 weeks, and what a mistake! Two weeks off them I was already feeling aching in my knees, and by the third week I realized just how much they did for my joints. So I am a happy "Glucosamine-Chondroitin" taker and probably will be one forever! I just wish they were cheaper! :)

I completely agree with you Donna. I stopped taking it for about a month because I got cheap and just didn't want to spend the money. I could really feel a difference and have decided not to do that again. It has really helped "lube" up my joints and keep them from aching and creaking as much. I have had a few good finds on Ebay and that is usually where I get my supply.

Hi Everyone...
I am a dedicated Glucosamine taker too...just wondering if there is one brand that is better than another...just as in a multi-vitamin...or are they are great??
Just wondering as there are so many on the market....
I fractured my knee cap in 1998...and I quit doing step.....but after starting to take Glucosamine in 2000...I am back doing stepo again...and my knee feels great.....other than the odd day when the weather changes anf a few aches slip in....;)

I take a generic version of Glucosamine/Chondrotin/MSM (Sam's Club) every day.. I've found that I can cut back to 1 pill per day instead of 3 and get good results. I originally started because of achy knees during step but I'm prone to carpal tunnel syndrome and I haven't had wrist problems since starting on these either.

thanks everyone!!

It sounds as though they definitely are worth it. I don't really have pain, but it just feels as though if I continue power moves & stuff I could end up with a little pain.

I got some at Osco yesterday buy 1 get 1 free, and they had the MSM too. They were $24 and that will last me 2 months. (3/day).

I'll have to see about cutting down dosage after I have been on them a month or so. I probably could get away with that especially since I don't really have bad trouble to start with.

You guys answered my questions! thanks

Can you just clarify what MSM is for me...I have a feling I am pulling a blonde day with this question...??:7 :7 :7
Thanks
Jenn

Hi -

Well my bottle says the glucosamine helps repair & regenerate cartilage tissue, the chondroitin promotes lubricating fluids for your joints & cartilage and the MSM helps maintain elasticity of joint tissues.

It sounds like the 3 are a good combo.
