Glove Disappointment

NY25

Cathlete
Well, I got my medium gloves. The fit through the palm/back but the fingers are a little tight feeling. I presume they will loosen up. My main "issue" however, is these are NOT gloves designed for weight lifting (I'm not really sure what they would be appropriate for, honestly). The tag says "cardio" gloves. They have absolutely no padding on the palm, so by the end of the workout my hands were starting to hurt.
In the STS video, everyone was wearing weighted gloves, and some (including Cathe's) had padded palms. That's not what's for sale on the website, however, so I'm very disappointed that I won't be able to use the micro-load gloves for actual weight lifting (I'm not a fan of blisters or slipping 20 pound dumbbells over my face). It appears there are no padded palm gloves for sale of any variety on the website. Now I will need to go buy additional gloves elsewhere. Needless to say, this is definitely a disappointing purchase, as it is atypical of Cathe products. :-(

Sorry to hear about your disappointment :( I am a little confused about which gloves you ordered. Did you order the weighted gloves or the fitness gloves or both?

I have both and like them both. Personally, I don't want a lot of padding in the palm area with gloves it would interfere with my grip. I just want something there to help avoid slippage of the dbs or bb. I wear my fitness gloves under the palm open weighted gloves and it works perfect. I actually think that's what Cathe and crew do in STS (I could be wrong about that though).

Yes, I ordered both. That's interesting how you wear both at the same time. The weighted gloves haven't come yet, because they went back in to being out of stock after I ordered them, so we'll see when they get here. I may try that - thanks for the tip. I'll still need to get a proper pair of weight lifting gloves, however. These thin things would be fine with lighter weights, but with the bigger, heavier weights I need the padded palms. sigh.

I found with the weighted gloves the finger holes were huge! But when I put on my other gloves underneath they fit ok. Plus I didn't like the open palm part either.

It's funny I looked and none of my weight lifting gloves are what I'd call padded. Maybe I should try some ;) What a shame you bought a pair that don't work for you though. That's the trouble sometimes when you order on the net and can't actually see something in person :(

Take a look at the padded kind - they're really nice. The padded is thin enough to not effect your grip, but substantial enough to "be there." It keeps the "balls" of your hand from getting blisters. The palms are also usually leather, so the grip is great. Makes holding heavier weights much more comfortable. Love them.

I'm sorry you don't like the fitness gloves. I have a padded style and I prefer Cathe's non padded gloves.
I like them so much I went back and bought a second pair.
One thing I noticed with the second pair, it was smaller in size compared to the first pair (both were size med). I guess it's like with jeans, the sizes can vary slightly.
The first pair I got, were a tiny bit loose, but no so much I wanted to order a size down. The second pair fit perfect. I still like the way they feel. Hard to explain.

That's really a shame that you're disappointed. That's not a fun feeling. The weightlifting gloves I already have are padded and I don't like them. The padding makes it harder for me to get a good grip on the handles of the heavier dumbbells so I don't even wear them. I ordered Cathe's gloves hoping that they don't have a lot (or any) padding.

I also have Cathe's weighted gloves and they have worked fine for me, but I have only used them for microloading, not for any kickboxing workouts, so I don't know whether the open palm would be a problem in that circumstance. The one time I have worn them through an entire STS workout because of the odd weights I knew I was going to need they were great. Now that I think about it, though, if I were going to use them for kickboxing workouts, I would probably need to wear full gloves with them. I usually wear my weightlifting gloves when I do those workouts just to keep my fingernails from digging into my palms when I am making a fist.

i agree with you NY25.. i was disappointed when i got my weighted gloves and there was no palm to them! i don't like holding my iron dumbells without anything protecting my skin, so i wear the weighted gloves over regular lifting gloves. it takes some getting used to. this morning during STS legs i took them off after a while because they felt too tight, and i was constantly adjusting them.

I think she was referring to the weight lifting gloves(full glove), not the weighted gloves.
I was talking about the weight lifting gloves.
I'm still thinking about the weighted gloves. I love the thumb hook wrist weights, so I'm not sure I really need the weighted gloves. Ok, so I want them because they look pretty cool:cool:

I too was disappointed. I bought the lifting gloves thinking they would be padded. My hands hurt for lack of wearing padded gloves. I have the weighted gloves too but can't wear them if I wear padded gloves. I'm going to get a pair of padded gloves and us wrist weights to increase the weigh as the weighted gloves don't fit over padded gloves.

I have some cycling gloves with padding in the palm that I think I will try next time. Why didn't I think of that before?

I noticed that they were wearing the smaller, tight-fitting gloves underneath them when I previewed STS. I had a pair of Nike leather-palm lifting gloves that I normally don't care for (I like more of a wrist band on them) but they have worked great under the weighted gloves. Kind of a bummer to have to layer up but I also don't want to get the weighted gloves all sweaty either.

I received these yesterday and just finished using them for the first time. For anyone looking for non-padded gloves these are perfect. They fit me just right (medium) and I felt much more secure holding the weights and the barbell.

I just got my weight lifting gloves but haven't tried them yet. I will say the pair I am (was) replacing are an Altus pair that I have had for about 5 years (maybe more) and they have more padding in the palm - so we'll see how I like them. I also have the weighted gloves and love them! They were definitely a good purchase for me. They fit great over my other gloves and have really made the difference in some of my small weight increments.
