Hi All,

Can you give me your opinions of the following:

Intense Moves
Simply Interval

Are these excellent interval workouts like the Imaxes? I previewed them, but you can only see a little of the workout. Would love to hear opinions of these.

TIA

I have Simply Interval, was my 1st step interval workout. The step combos are very easy to follow, not very creative, and I thought the the intervals were tough, especially the rear leg presses. I was wiped out the 1st time I did it. The next few times were not so bad. Then I bought IMAX 3. Makes Simply Interval seem like a walk in the park. I am loving IMAX 3 and poor SI is collecting dust. Good workout, but no where near as tough as CATHE. I don't know your fitness level, but I use it on a "medium" day, or on a day I've been in high heels too long and the feet and knees aren't going to make it thru IMAX 3. I would still say it's worth the 20 bucks to buy it.

I have Intense Moves and really enjoy it, but I don't have a lot to compare it to... the only other interval workout I own is IMAX 2. Cathe is definitely harder and more creative, but sometimes I don't feel up to IMAX 2 or the choreography... and Intense Moves fits the bill perfectly. It will definitely push your heartrate past its anaerobic threshold, leaving you huffing and puffing and sweating like crazy... but the blasts feel more manageable to me when they are each timed for exactly one minute, and there is a countdown clock on the screen. Also, Gin shows variations of each power move, so you can make your blast "hard", "harder", or "hardest". For this reason, it could be good for someone trying to build up to Cathe's intensity. It's also a little shorter, a good option to have on hand for those time-crunches we all face.

But when you have lots of time, loads of energy, and want to have a ton of fun, IMAX 2 is your better bet.

I agree with Mocha - Intense moves is not as intense as any of Cathe's IMAX's but worth having in your library. It is definitely a wonderful choice when you're just not feeling up to an IMAX workout or you are running a little short on time. This is one of the very few workouts I have in my collection that isn't a Cathe workout.

I have not tried the other workout you mentioned because I had simply strong and was not impressed. To me, simply strong was boring with only Gin in the workout and if I remember correctly, no music or dull music at best. Just not my cup of tea, so I quit buying Gin workouts.

Intense Moves was the first interval workout I ever got. I agree that it isn't quite as intense as the IMAX workouts, but it's still no slouch. You can increase the intensity by making the intervals a little longer, thereby making the recovery times shorter.

The thing I love about this workout is that the moves are more on the athletic side. It's definitely a keeper.

Hi. I recently purchased Simply Interval and am really enjoying it. It's less complicated and fun. The intervals are tough if you follow Gin's lead. She shows the hardest version of the interval while her partner does the easier version. I like that it's not as long as the IMAX workouts. The w/u and c/d are very short and I prefer it that way. Gin's personality really comes out in this one.

I don't like Intense Moves as much although it's a solid interval workout.

I own IMAX 1&2. I prefer IMAX 2 out of those two if that gives you any indication of the style that I like. I use IMAX 2 and Simnply Interval almost weekly.

Michelle:

I have Intense Moves and Extreme Step and have loved both of them for several years. They are nicely intense and give you an excellent workout. I really like Gin Miller - very self-drepecating and inspiring. Just a cool person, like Cathe.

Here is where I'm going to differ with the others: Yes, Cathe is more intense than these two Gin tapes, but I am in the beginning of a high intensity interval training program that stresses the importance of getting your heart rate down to a certain level before you crank it up again. Gin's rest periods are long enough to get your heart to a reasonable rate before you hop to again. Cathe's are a level of intensity that exceed that, in my newly developed opinion.

When I finish this program (five weeks to go) I suspect that I will find myself reaching for Gin without blinking because of the recovery periods. And I will probably be making adjustments on Cathe's to get a better recovery inbetween interval spurts.

Sorry - long-winded and slightly highjacked!!!:7

I don't think these workouts are as intense as the Imaxes, but they are fun and shorter. I do find the recovery times are much longer, but I do like the fact that there are different levels of intensity for each interval. You can customize it based on your energy level.

Charlotte,

I agree about the recovery phase differences. I am very interested in the Lean and Hard program. It sounds like Alwyn Cosgrove's Afterburn. How did you go about meeting with the nutritionist and trainer? I live in Texas too!
