GILBERT!!!!!

Okay, you may remember a while back I posted a thread about puppies because I wanted to get one for my daughter as a surprise for her birthday.

Well, after much soul searching, my SO and I decided to rescue a dog instead, and through Petfinder.com I found a place about two and a half hours away that had a dog who seemed perfect for us. His name is Gilbert. If you click on the link and scroll down, you'll see him and his bio.

I just found out that I GET TO PICK HIM UP ON SUNDAY!!!!!:D

I'm so excited I don't think I can wait!!!

Here's the link:

Aw, he sounds like such a sweet dog. My son would love to have a dog like that! Congratulations though on your new family addition! I hope he brings alot of love to you and yours. Take care~

How super cute is he. How did you narrow it down to him. I have been thinking about adopting one myself. I love the dog Macy. Does your daughter know she is getting him Sunday or is it still a surprise? Karen

What a great age - no house training, old enough to do pretty much what you want him to do - hike, run... and young enough to be trainable the way you want to train him

And he sounds like a wonderful choice! Not to mention he's cute as a button. Oh, I'm so excited for you! Have fun with him - post on Sunday to let us know how he's adjusting to his new home!

How exciting for you guys. gosh, we were talking about rescuing some of the Kartina victims pets. It is great that you saved a pet. I am sure you will get so much joy with Gilbert. Now if you can just wait until Sunday. Keep us posted on how everyting goes.:)

The adoption place told us his story. He was rescued from a First Nations reserve. The owners had moved away and left him and his brother tied to their doghouse. Thankfully they hadn't been there too long before someone found them, as they weren't emaciated. How could anyone do that?:(

Karen - Sophie still doesn't know she's getting him. She doesn't know we've even been looking, but she's been asking for a dog for a long time:) I think we chose him because he just has all the qualities we were looking for. We love Shepherd crosses, he's calm and quiet and smart and the right age and size.

My SO went to meet him tonight, and he's fostered at someone's home, along with a lot of other dogs. He said he wanted to adopt them all:)

Shelley I'm a mom of three little girls 8,6, and 3. I can just imagine how good your going to feel Sunday when she finds out she is getting him. Man it feels good to be a mom sometimes. It's moments like that, that really matter. Isn't it!!! Karen

Excellent!!! i'm so happy for you! please do take a pic of Sophie's face when you bring Gilbert home;-) i think it's great that you are adopting a rescue dog:7

Shelley,

I'm SO happy for you (and of course Sophie too! :) ) He looks and sounds like a wonderful addition to your family! Poor baby being treated like that, but you have changed his life and will show him what love is REALLY about! You are such a wonderful Mama--to both Humans and furries!

Please give him a hug and snuggle from me on Sunday (If you can pry him out of Sophie's arms!) :)

Shelley! I am so happy for you! Gilbert is so very cute and sounds so well behaved. Not like some of the dogs I've gotten from people that (couldn't keep them!)...very cool you get him on Sunday....I'll even let the boys do the happy dance for you!!

Shelley, he looks adorable! What wonderful qualities. He sounds like such a sweet dog. Congratulations to you & Sophie.

I think it's wonderful that it's a rescue dog. All my babies come from either rescue groups or as strays. Somehow, despite the mix, they all get along well and are very well behaved & housetrained. Although some are more rascally than others. Of course, Chico would never admit to it.

Marla;-)

Oh he looks like a wonderful boy! How exciting! I think it's great you found this place and hope he becomes a very special part of your family! :)
