Gift Ideas for a Cool 9-year Old?

Hi everyone,

I am having trouble deciding what to buy a very cool 9-year old girl for her birthday. I am going to get her a gift card because I think she is at the age where she'd like to choose some things on her own, but I'd also like her to have something to open. I don't want to go the clothing/jewelry route. I'm looking for something under $25. She likes Spongebob, arts and crafts, skiing, and bunnies most. I'd greatly appreciate any ideas! Thanks in advance!!!

How about a craft kit where she can make her own beaded bracelets or friendship bracelets. Barnes and Noble and Michaels craft stores have a lot of these. They are really cool. I have gotten these for girls this age and they love them.

At this age I also loved latchhook kits (I bet they even have a spongebob one). I also loved the felt Christmas ornament projects where you could spend hours making little angels, snowmen, christmas trees with precut felt, sequins, eyes, etc. They are all ready to go in a kit.

Joanns, Michaels, etc. would be a great place to look.

Good luck,
Lori

I have a great gift idea that I am doing for my 15 year old but can be done for anyone, that is if you like animals.
She wants a hamster real bad so I am going to get her one, But I am going to wrap the cage with a fake singing hamster in it and with a note to where she needs to go look for it, I am then going to wrap the hamster food and with a note to go look in another part of the house and then she will find the hamster grass, and then last of all she will find the real hamster. I am so looking forward to doing this, I know she will be sooooo excited, she has been begging for one for about a year or so now. But for my 10 year old whom thinks she is 16 is my toughest to get for.

How about click its?? They have many different types of kits. I just saw a really cute one for "room decor". One of the items to make in the kit was a picture frame. I would love it for my daughter, but she's a little too young(4 years) for click its.

Aila:)

I'm the world's biggest online shopper and I found this site through Upromise. I haven't bought anything yet, but they seem to have some pretty cool things.

If the girl isn't your child, I wouldn't get her a hamster. Unless you clear it with her parents first and they don't have any cats. My daughter's hamster lasted about 3 months before it became snack food. Poor "Grumpy".

I second the idea for clickits. Other ideas include (and these are coming from me, who has a 10 yr old and her "wish list"): Shrinky dinks, flavored lip glosses/smelly stuff of any kind.
There is also a "sticker maker" at AC moore that transforms any picture into a sticker. It costs $19, but with the weekly 40% off coupon i'll be getting it cheaper.
Your local craft store will have tons of kids craft ideas, paint by number etc...

Is Spongebob on DVD yet? I mean the episodes - I know the movie just came out in theaters. Or how about one of those kits where you make jewelry out of beads? Nik loved stuff like that at that age.

I have found with my grandchildren and years of doing daycare that crafts or anything creative are their favorite things. Art sets with lots of papers. Sculptures with the acrylic paints would be good for that age. You could even go to a craft store and buy something that they could paint to put their own trinkets in. Candlemaking kits are fun or sand art. You might want to make sure it is age appropriate and not to much adult supervision as a lot of parents do not have that much time to spend helping. My eight year old grandaughter loves to read. Books are another option depending on what she likes to do.

I thought of another one last night. Do you have a Build-A-Bear Workshop around you? Maybe you could take her there!

Never fail gift: gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. My nieces and nephews love it at any age. Mom takes them all at once and they make a day of picking out their books. I usually do $25 per kid.

Thanks so much for the ideas, everyone! I've decided to go with a Lisa Frank stationary kit, some hair accessories, and a gift card.

Thanks again.
