Getting Ready? How to NOT die in Hardcore?

Cathlete
Hi, Cathe,
I'm trying to get ready for Hardcore by doing all the workouts I already have (the whole version) and going as heavy as I can. Any other ideas for getting ready? I'm afraid I'm just going to die when I start this new series! Is it really TONS harder than Intensities and Body Blast?
Maybe when you have time to post a new rotation, you can do a "get ready for Hardcore" rotation??
If I die, I died trying!! ;o)
I can't wait!!

I'm not Cathe, but I've been preparing for Hardcore, at least cardio-wise, by doing my patented intense DVD mish-moshes. Try a search on the "Open Discussion" forum under "A-Jock's Fave INTENSE DVD Mish-Moshes" and "Nosebleed Mish-Moshes", and you may get some ideas for highly intense cardio and cardio-circuit stuff.

Hey there A-Jock!

I stand in complete and total awe of your mish-moshes. My goal is to get through some of them and live to tell about it.}( There are a few that I'd love to try, but I don't have CTX (yet). I can do your Nosebleed Mis-Moshes. (Note: when I say "can" I mean, "I have the equipment to" - I'm still working on the physical aspect of it...) I don't have Circuit Max, Body Max or the Terminator DVDs yet either.

Can you suggest a viable substitution in your "Hi/Lo Heaven", "Hi/Lo Hell" for the CTX segments?

Is "Hi/Lo Hello" out of the question? Not that I need it desperately right now, I have plenty to work on.}(

If you have a few minutes, if you wouldn't mind making a few suggestions, I'd be eternally grateful.

I have:

Rhythmic Step
MIC
IMAX
IMAX2
C&W
Step Blast
S, J & P
PUB
PLB
BC
PH (via tivo, not the real DVD yet)
Power Max
Step Works
Step Fit
ME
KPC
L&G

uhhh, I think that's it.

Soooo... if I may press the issue a bit more... what would you suggest for my next purchase? (Hardcore is fully preordered:7 )

TIA

A-jock,

This is the first time I am using the message boards, but I read them often and find them very interesting. Your reference to The "A-Jock's Fave INTENSE DVD Mish-Moshes" and "Nosebleed Mish-Moshes" sounds so intriguing. I tried to find them in the Open Discussion forum, but could not. Do you know what date they were posted? I am very interested in seeing them. Thank-you.

:)

Try this for a Hi/Lo Hello Jello:

MIC warm-up through hi/lo sequence;
SJP hi/lo only add-on premix, omitting the last low-impact cycle;
Boot Camp cardio-only premix omitting warm-up.

The running time is about the same. You must needs get the CTX series on DVD, and its country cousin C-Max + Cardio-Kicks DVD (you get a deal if you buy these all together). The hi/lo is really superior, and IMHO no Cathe Collection is complete without these.

Another thing - I find the MIC warm-up through about the first 18:35 minutes to be fairly moderate. You can juice this sequence up a lot by substituting knee-lifts for a lot of the heel-touches, and substituting plyo-lunges (what Cathe calls either "power scissors" or "explosive lunges") for some of the traveling grapevine moves. Also substituting plyo jacks for traditional jacks.

Okay, I read them.. YOWZA!...I'm wondering if I can adapt them to the DVD's that I own. I own Intensity series, Body Blast series, High Step Training Advanced. A few "mish-moshes" that I have made, that probably aren't as hard as yours, are as follows.

Kickin' Fried Legs )
Kick Punch Crunch part 1 w/ weighted gloves
Bootcamp Cardio+ Lower body
Boot camp Abs

Fried Legs #2
KPC part 2 w/ weights, Legs and Glutes circuits in between the KPC drills- going 10-15% heavier than Cathe w/ the weights. KPC Abs

I have a couple more...Gotta' Run Now!

Thanks so much! I agree about the MIC - and thanks for the suggestions. I'll try those on for size as well!

Thanks for sharing your expertise and time!

A-Jock

Thank-you VERY much. I can't wait to try your suggestions. I really appreciate your quick response. Have a great weekend.

To A-Jock, my exercise muse:
My mish-mosh from today was...
Step Blast warm up, combo 1 and step blast challenge- 8" step
High Step Training Advanced Cardio only- step turned long ways
Step Pump Jump All Hi/Lo add on

1 hour total

I thought it was pretty tough but not so challenging that I was choking or at the top of my threshhold. I would say percieved exertion was at about a 7-8.

Any thoughts on whether that is hard enough or what I should do to further increase the intensity? I have a feeling you will say, "Buy more videos!" ;o)
Thank you!!
