Hi Dorthyrd,
I agree with you that the claims of the workout burning 1000 calories are misleading. There is no scientfic proof that a person can burn 1000 during the exercise portion of the workout alone (it is only 55 minutes). However, I think they can get away with the claim given that a person's metabolic rate increases post-workout. The body continues to burn calories 1-2 hours after workout, which can attribute to their claim. I actually appreciate that she had a breif discussion of this concept included on the DVD. However, yes, the way that it is presented is somewhat glorified
In addition, metabolic calorie expenditure post-workout definitely fluctuates per person and is influenced by everything including your post-workout meal, hydration level, stress level, energy, etc.
I do think that it is possible, but it is a goal that will not be achieved by every person, nor will it be achieved consistenly. However, it is an effective workout that challenges and individual, which is the real purpose of exercise. I do like that Jari included educational material on the DVD, and she does use exercise science to help inform consumers.
Anyway, just my two cents. I am certainly not a nutrition or exercise expert, but I do have a great deal of training in the exercise education field. As an experiement, you might want to go to your local university to get a VO2 Max test and body composition measurement(some health clubs also offer this). It will help you understand how your body responds to exercise.
