Get Ripped 1000

I'm LOLing about your comments re the male exerciser. He does look scared, doesn't he?

As for the stretching, I thought it was unncessary as well, but she says research shows it's beneficial? Also, I recall Cathe saying in one of ther workouts that when you can get a stretch in between exercises, it's "good."

Perhaps the stretching is conducive to blood flow?

That depends. Recent research shows that stretching before doing a resistance move decreases the strength of the muscle for a short time. Some dynamic movements and short stretches are nice during a weight workout, but holding the stretch too long during a workout is actually detrimental to weight training. I don't know about stretching after short cardio/plyo segments, though. It just seems a bit strange. Maybe I'll just turn it into an extended 'cool down' move, like a step-touch or some heel digs.

Hi Teddygirl,

I wanted to chime in on this thread since I finally tried the Get Ripped 1000 workout tonight after having it for about 3 weeks. Let me be the first to admit that I sincerely underestimated this workout!! I thought it was GREAT! I was a bit hesitant about whether or not I would like it. I have the original Get Ripped and never tried it because I was not impressed with the workout after viewing it. However, I thought I'd give the 1000 a try.

When I previewed it, my first thought was "how the heck can this workout burn 1000 calories?" Well, much to my surprise, I think that it is incredibly challenging and effective. I also appreciate the diverse cast that Jari uses. I also like her teaching style. At first I thought she was impersonal, but while doing the workout I found her incredibly motivating. This workout will definitely become a favorite in my collection. In fact, I immediately purchased Slim & Lean as well as Ripped to the Core. I was contemplating them, but wanted to try Get Ripped 1000 before purchasing more.

I do think that the filming/camera angles could be better, as sometimes Jari was starting exercises and the camera was focused on the person who was modifying the exercise to lower intensity. I did laugh at myself midway through the workout when I found myself huffing, puffing, and aching...I thought the weight amounts they were flashing on the screen were per hand (i.e. when they said Jari was using 10 pounds, I thought they meant she had 10lb dumbells in each hand, when she really was using 10 pounds TOTAL)...so, needless to say, I was challenged (in a good way).

I also think that I probably did not give the original Get Ripped workout enough credit (or even a fair chance); I plan to actually try it soon. I must say that I am a newly found fan of Jari's. Like others, I would encourage you to try the workout first before selling it off - you may be pleasantly surprised!

no way this burns 1000 calories. I wore my HRM and it burned about 400, which is actually very good for an hour of work. I don't even burn 1000 calories in 1 hour of intense swimming, and that is a big calorie burner, so not sure where they get off claiming this.

This work-out is a keeper, because it is fun, but I did not find it excessively hard in any way. It had a "bootcamp" feel, if you want to compare it to Cathe's, although not as hard as bootcammp, because the weight sections were longer and slower, which I liked.

Definately not a cardio work-out, but my HR stayed up in a training zone most of the time.

I love all Jari's new workouts. The get ripped 1000 is one of my favorites. I think she is an awesome instructor. I love variety in my workouts.

Have a good day

Deb:)

Hi Dorthyrd,

I agree with you that the claims of the workout burning 1000 calories are misleading. There is no scientfic proof that a person can burn 1000 during the exercise portion of the workout alone (it is only 55 minutes). However, I think they can get away with the claim given that a person's metabolic rate increases post-workout. The body continues to burn calories 1-2 hours after workout, which can attribute to their claim. I actually appreciate that she had a breif discussion of this concept included on the DVD. However, yes, the way that it is presented is somewhat glorified :) In addition, metabolic calorie expenditure post-workout definitely fluctuates per person and is influenced by everything including your post-workout meal, hydration level, stress level, energy, etc.

I do think that it is possible, but it is a goal that will not be achieved by every person, nor will it be achieved consistenly. However, it is an effective workout that challenges and individual, which is the real purpose of exercise. I do like that Jari included educational material on the DVD, and she does use exercise science to help inform consumers.

Anyway, just my two cents. I am certainly not a nutrition or exercise expert, but I do have a great deal of training in the exercise education field. As an experiement, you might want to go to your local university to get a VO2 Max test and body composition measurement(some health clubs also offer this). It will help you understand how your body responds to exercise.

Supposedly, Jari has tested her workouts using a metabolic cart, but I find a lot of the claims she makes (not only the calorie burn, but 'this move burns 100% carbs" and the claim that the ab work in Slim and Lean ---or is it RTTC?--- burns as many calories as her running a 5K!) rather spurious, and they almost make me think less of the workouts.

But remember, the claim isn't that it "burns 1000 calories," but that it "burns UP TO 1000 calories,' so if they found a sumo wrestler who was not used to cardio at all, he may have burned that manyf calories, and it isn't untrue.;-)

(Though I always wonder what would happen if someone managed to burn MORE than 1000 calories? Could they say that the claim is untrue and get their money back? Or-- why not in our litigious society--sue Jari for making false claims, LOL!)

so which of the jari workouts would you say would help with more muscle definition? I am looking to get more sculpted not bigger muscle size but that cut look. I am having a hard time achieving this. thanks!

Slim and Lean. I'm on my third week and am noticeing little cuts in my arms. On her website and forum there is a rotation listed.
