People have mentioned that here on the OT forum they are having trouble finding the threads they are interested in quickly Here's are an idea some of us were kicking around as to how to make the forum easier to skim. What do you think

This can help make this forum a place where everyone enjoys themselves.

What does everyone think? Any suggestions?

I think it's brilliant and I also thing Debra made an excellent point about conversations going on in threads for a whole page. We have called that hijacking a thread. Would anyone mind a gentle nudge toward taking up a conversation off thread? I know I am guilty and I know how annoying it can be. So unless everyone wants to go off in a new direction, I think we should agree to stay with the topic at hand and move out if we want to change topic or chat.

OK - I can handle that

and if where onto suggestions

can some people please STOP replying to posts for the SAKE OF REPLYING

For example (and I say this with the upmost respect)

If someone asks that they LOVE brown bread and what would be the best brown bread to purchase?...............

WELL!!! before you know it.........2-3 people have replied that they HATE brown bread.............DAH!!! what was the point of that?

Thanks
Marion

Sounds OK, but please be patient if there are a few slip ups (i.e. forgetting to put General: in front of something) here and there.

Also, I think the check-ins should be exempt from the subject label. "Hardcore Rotation Check In 3/4/05" is pretty self explanatory. Anyone agree or disagree? :)

I think these are all very good ideas, but I am not so sure that even if labeled "sensitive" people will be agreeable to the "sensitive" topics being posted. I think input is needed from people who have objected to those particular threads before anyone thinks of posting something along that subject matter again. And, I also have a distinct feeling that these threads should be kept to "just the facts ma'am" as necessary for medical reasons, and no general relationship issues or value/moral/religious issues.

Agree.

Also I'm sure I'll forget to put a label sometimes too, and it was partly MY idea. :p

Marion--OH MY G*D Brown Bread! I haven't had that in years!!! ;)

Cathe's post was titled "Keeping this site clean!"

I think we should do just that, and not try to go into any gray areas no matter how properly you title the thread.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Aside from the "Joke" label (which I think would be helpful, if the title alone doesn't indicate it--though often when people do post jokes, they label them anyway), I don't think these "labels" are necessary, if people make clear in the title of their thread what it's about. Instead of writing "a question" or "does anybody..." or other unclear titles (which only happens on occasion anyway), making sure that the title of your thread is like the title of a newspaper article, or an email message, for example, and shows the subject of your post, is all that is needed. I would assume that threads that have unclear titles like the above are already often skipped over by many people because of their lack of clarity.

And the "OT" label is most definitely NOT needed, IMO, because the "OPEN discussion" HAS no topic. Though it seems that several of our newer members in particular are trying to push it into being a "health and fitness only" forum, here is the description of this forum by Cathe (who is the one to make the rules): "Talk about anything you like in this forum including other videos you like or dislike." (Obviously within the bounds of good taste and courtesy).

I agree with Dani. I think we need to do what Cathe has suggested. I think titling (title-ing??) something "sensitive" won't keep younger ones from looking. It might just make them MORE curious. JMO.

really... Of course Dani and Debbie you are totally right... Of course putting sensitive would just get folks to look..

This is a fitness forum - there are many other forums for the other topics folks are looking for....

These ideas are all good. I think the bottom line is to make yourself known in the topic line. So, say, if you want to ask how to deal with a co-worker, the topic could read: NON-FITNESS PERSONAL PROBLEM or NON-FITNESS: SEEKING ADVICE or, even better, NON-FITNESS: CO-WORKER ISSUE or something like that. Then no one who wants fitness advice will need to open your thread.

Correct me if I am wrong...I don't think Cathe has a problem with us posting OT subjects...just wants them to be clean. I think we are all guilty of posting OT from time-to-time. After all, we HAVE to wish everyone a special day on their birthday, right? But, I can see why putting the RIGHT subject title woud help tremendously with decifering whether or not you want to read it. (We do all want to read birthday posts and wish them the best though, right? :7 :7 :7)

I think you are right, Debbie, regarding what Cathe wants. I've never heard Cathe says she doesn't want OT stuff. From what I know of her, I doubt that Cathe has any problem with light, friendly chit-chat and birthday messages. But there are others who don't want OT stuff at all because they say they don't have time to sort through all the "clutter" when they are looking for fitness info. For them, we could be more specific in our topic lines.

Editing to say of COURSE we have to wish everyone a special day!! (Can't believe I'm about to say this, but don't forget mine is coming up on March 24. I make this shameless plug because turning 49 is going to be difficult for me and I'll need all the help I can get!:+ )

Thanks Nancy! I agree...we just need to post the subject matter! And, GF, don't think I'd ever forget your secial day! I guess we could start EARLY with your party! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nancy! 48 & 11/12 is looking real good on ya'!http://d21c.com/AnnesPlace/Spec3/BD11.gif to NANCY!

LOL! I don't know if I want to get THIS party started so soon, so let's hold off until the yucky day gets here, but thanks Deb, you're a pal.

Marion, you are so right. I agree, I know I did not have to write I agree, but you made me laugh cause these are things I guess I had under my hat also and just shook my head. I think the new topics are catching on. I've seen some new and it was strange but someone is listening.

I understand what you are saying Debbie and Nancy, but the problem of interpretation still remains. What some would call clean others would not but I still have yet to hear the complaining parties list what they feel or think is unclean.

I will be more specific. These subjects just off the top of my head are gray areas:

Birth Control issues
Personal problems of a sexual nature
Personal problems not of a sexual nature
Breast Augmentation
And my personal pet peeve: Skinny bashing and fat bashing which some of the posters do here with great relish.

I agree, I have never seen Cathe mention these topics as off limits. I believe she just meant issues of an explicit sexual nature but I don't think the posters that were thanking Cathe think that's all she meant. I come to this conclusion based on reading
their posts.

I say this again and again. What I think is clean you may not necessarily think is clean and vice versa.
