Gauntlet Re-Imagined

Hello, Sportsfans:

I've cooked up a new major mish-mosh that takes the traditional Gauntlet workout from the Terminator DVD to the next level for those who want a serious cardio and leg-burn experience. I personally prefer to focus exclusively on legs during any circuit workout, AND I've always felt that I-Max 2's warm-up and interval #1 were a tad light for my tastes; plus I always felt the first Boot Camp cardio cycle (the Speed Skates) also a tad light.

That being said, here's something for those who truly love punishment. It really only works if you have a 5-disc DVD player so that you can just scoot to each next disc without too much time elapsing. Use the heaviest barbell you can safely hike over your head 7 times during the workout; don't worry about dumbbells.

4 discs needed: I-Max 1; Boot Camp; Terminator; I-Max 2

GAUNTLET RE-IMAGINED:

I-Max 1 warm-up THROUGH Interval #1 (do NOT go into recovery!);
DISC SKIP TO:
BOOT CAMP DVD, Cardio Interval #8 (Ice Breakers!)
PAUSE: 48 traditional squats
DISC SKIP TO:

GAUNTLET DVD, beginning with

CYCLE #2:

I-Max aerobic / interval 4 (3-count squats + over-the-top + Power 15’s)
CHAPTER ADVANCE 3X TO:
Boot Camp jacks + airborne jacks (1:12)
PAUSE: 24 lunges each leg; PLAY

CYCLE #3:

I-Max aerobic / interval #7 (ski hops + box jumps + tuck jumps)
(CONTINUE to)
Boot Camp squats + roundhouse kicks
(CHAPTER ADVANCE 2X to)
Boot Camp squat-thrust climbers
PAUSE: 48 plie squats; PLAY

CYCLE #4:

I-Max aerobic / interval #10 (Power-L’s + power squats with a turn)
(CONTINUE to)
Boot Camp front kicks + side kicks
(CHAPTER ADVANCE 2X to)
Boot Camp jacks + jabs
PAUSE: 24 lunges each leg; PLAY

CYCLE #5:

I-Max aerobic / interval #3 (Power-Box 1-4 + One-Legged “Genie Hops”)
(CHAPTER ADVANCE 3X to)
Boot Camp sequential power kicks
PAUSE: 24 tradional squats; 24 plie squats; PLAY

CYCLE #6:

I-Max aerobic / interval #6 (Power-3’s + Straddle-Taps);
(CHAPTER ADVANCE 3X to)
Boot Camp kickbox (speed-bag + knee-smash + front kicks + vertical jumps)
PAUSE: 12 slow lunges each leg

DISC SKIP TO:

I-Max 2: Interval blast #5; Mix-N-Match to
Interval blast #8; Mix-N-Match to
Interval blast #9;

PAUSE: 24 traditional squats; 24 plie squats; 24 lunges each leg

If you can get through the last Interval Blast on I-Max 2 (the dreaded Interval #9), do it one more time. If you can get through THAT, you are not of this world.

Enjoy!

I went ahead and did this twice through just for the practice.:7

Maybe "Gauntlet Regurgitated" is better?

Thanks A-Jock. The Terminator is one of my favorite dvd's. I have Imax 1 on vhs so this would definitely take some work on my part. I have nothing to lose but the ole thighs and buns. This will definitely take care of that little problem-ok big problem.

Thanks Again,

Diana

Thanks A Jock,
I printed this up so I can try it on my newly discovered 5 disc player. Looks like a good one. Any idea how long this one clocks out to? I guess I will find out.

Hi, Diane Sue - WD!

I've done this one twice, the most recent this past Monday night, and it clocks in at around 70 minutes; you have to NOT mess around between the cardio cycles and the resistance cycles. I always like to do a Cathe Ab Mish-Mosh afterward, so my total workout time Mon. night was about 85 minutes not including the cooldown stretch.

Have fun! I'm still feeling a really great pump in the legs this a.m., so I know I'm on to something. I absolutely love finishing things off with I-Max 2 #9 interval!

Thanks A-Jock,
That sounds perfect to me. I am working on Endurance for a couple of weeks to get a break from what I have been doing. I plan on trying this on Friday. If I can get all of the chaptering and titles down I will just program the dvd player and pause for the weights. Otherwise I will just do the disc skip button.

Hey again, WD!

Another challenge I've made for myself with this one is the I-Max 2 cardio cycle in Cycle #6, my beloved straddle-tap intervals: rather than go into recovery as Cathe does, I continue the power-3's and straddle-taps-for-16 until the end of the cycle. Makes a difference, including my Smugness Quotient.

One thing I've noticed: this mish-mosh with its squat-thrust-climbers, sequential power kicks, straddle-taps AND the Interval #9 plie-jacks, are awesome quad-blasters.

Oh my goodness AJ! It is all I can do to get thru interval 9 when I do Imax 2 as is! Are you trying to get rid of some of us so there will be more room for YOU to post! :7 (BTW, I LOVE the straddle tap sequence!)

Hey, Deb-BEEEEEEEEE! I love the straddle-tap sequence too, AND The Straddle-Tap Song never fails to stay in my bald little head for HOURS after I've done it.

Give Gauntlet Re-Imagined a whirl. I think you'd like it!

Hi Aquajock,

Can I just say, you are my hero? I've read over your mish moshes, and all I can say is, YOU ARE AMAZING! So, I thought it was time to find out about the woman behind the madness. How about giving me a breakdown of your training schedule so that I can having something to work towards (gulp!)

Thanks for the inspiration,

Hilarie

Okay, I just crawled up the steps to my computer! OH MY! The legs are screaming. That interval # 9 was pathetic and I even stopped and stared a couple times thru it. Whewie!!! It was an awesome workout. I got a bit frustrated because my DVD froze a couple times, but believe me, I took that time to breathe! Thanks for putting your brain into this for us. That bald head of yours never ceases to amaze us!!! :7 Can't wait to meet you someday!

A Jock I did this this morning and since I already had I Max 2 in I finished out with interval 10 and the cooldown then added 3 sets of PP inner outer thighs, calves & shins, & abs. Now that was a workout. I was so hungry after that. By the way on the 3rd cycle I believe BC jacks + airborne jacks is 1:15. Great workout. Thanks.
