Gas prices

We have to use caution on Hybrids and electric cars.

They are environmentally friendly until they have to have the batteries replaced. Most storage batteries are shipped overseas to be recycled. That way there is no OSHA or EPA to deal with. Do you wonder why?

Also if you think people go nuts over a coolant, gas or oil spill with a standard car imagine about 50 gallons of battery acid.

Also with electrics, first responders are reluctant to use the "jaws of life" to rescue you as the manufacturers haven't got a standard on running the electric cables.

These are minor details that should be worked out before we adopt the technology.

I think the future would be in hydrogen fuel cells, however I keep thinking of the zeppelin Hindenburg.

Thank you Thea! I was going to say the same thing. It has nothing to due with oil prices, it's a gas shortage in general here in the U.S..
I do have to say that here gas was at $3.19 and has dropped in certain areas to $2.79.

Did I predict this or what???? Taken from an article on my news page.

" WASHINGTON - The chiefs of five major oil companies defended the industry's huge profits Wednesday at a Senate hearing where lawmakers said they should explain prices and assure people they're not being gouged.

There is a "growing suspicion that oil companies are taking unfair advantage," Sen. Pete Domenici (news, bio, voting record), R-N.M., said as the hearing opened in a packed Senate committee room.

"The oil companies owe the country an explanation," he said.

Lee Raymond, chairman of Exxon Mobil Corp., said he recognizes that high gasoline prices "have put a strain on Americans' household budgets" but he defended his companies huge profits, saying petroleum earnings "go up and down" from year to year.

ExxonMobil, the worlds' largest privately owned oil company, earned nearly $10 billion in the third quarter. Raymond was joined at the witness table by the chief executives of Chevron, ConocoPhillips, BPAmerica and Shell Oil USA.

Together the companies earned more than $25 billion in profits in the July-September quarter as the price of crude oil hit $70 a barrel and gasoline surged to record levels after the disruptions of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Raymond said the profits are in line with other industries when profits are compared to the industry's enormous revenues."

Our prices have come down lots too! I am not out and about every day so they probably dropped more but last I saw a few days ago they were at like $2.19 or something....what a relief!

we are having somewhat of a gas war between several gas stations ours is down to 1.97.I am glad they are finally checking into the oil companys-I knew they were gouging us.

Here in Ohio we were actually down to $2.05 not two days ago. Now its back up to $2.19. WTF? Where are these yo-yo prices coming from? There are no storms right now or anything else to cause this fluctuation. Its so IRRITATING! Someone is obviously making big bucks here and it ain't us!

Actually, this week gas has dropped to $2.14, in the Va Beach area. When my husband was transferred here in May, it was $1.82/gallon. Over the summer it topped up to over $3.30, and it has steadily come down. However, it is still a rip off! But, we are from NY, which is totally out of control. The only people making $ are the big fat oil companies! :(

Right down the street from me last night it was $2.25 (near cincinnati, Ohio) and on the other side of town it is $1.98 ! That's the first time I've seen it under $2 in a LONG time! Was gonna fill up , but the line was out of the gas station and into the Walmart parking lot!!

I live in Nebr. and at one time our gas was $3.19 a gallon and every day it would either go up or down. I've never seen our gas prices fluctuate so often. BUT, I am glad to say at a couple of gas stations last week we could get gas for $1.99, but this week its back to about $2.12-$2.15 a gallon which it has been for a couple of weeks. So I feel pretty lucky compared to alot of you out there. I hope you all receive some relief soon. Lori BC
