does anyone here own this? i love to jogg and hike and currently own a polar f6. i love to monitor my heart rate, calories burned, and distance but have to use 2 peices of equipment to measure. i was thinking of upgrading to this but have read mixed reviews. it is on sale on amazon for $249 and i've found a $50 rebate, which would make it about $100 off. i would appreciate any feed back.

I would definitely get it!!! I have the 205 which is exactly the same thing as the 305 but without the heart rate monitor. I used to have the 201 (the older model), but the gps sensor on the 205/305 is much more sensitive and will not cut out as much if you are running in trails. I have used the 205 to train for marathons and it is by far the best running accessory I have ever gotten. There are soooooooo many programs that you can use to help you with interval training, maintaining certain speeds, it has a virtual training partner where you program your distance and the speed you want at all times during your run and it will beep at you if you go too slow (or too fast), etc. There are ENDLESS options with these Garmin watches!!! Also, the computer software for these watches is fantastic!!! you just plug the watch into your computer and it downloads extremely detailed information from your workout, as well as mapping routes and keeping track of your progress over time. I discover something new about the watch every time I use it. You will not regret getting it!!!!

Take care,

Ady

Ditto everything Ady said! I love mine. With the deal you are looking at, I'd definitely go for it.

I got mine last year and LOVE it. What Ady said is so true. I run a lot of trails (when I am not injured) and the 305 never lost the satellite so far. I used a Timex HR/GPS before and I would often loose the satellite. There are many options with this watch and I agree the software is great. Since I got the 305 I keep all my records on my PC instead of a paper log and I really like that. Also there are 3 different screens you can scroll thru when running to see the HR, best, average and current pace, direction and even more depending on what info you want to see. I paid about $275 so the deal you are offered is a very good one...:)

Thanks so much everyone!!! I've been researching a lot but hearing all the great feed back here has convinced me that it's to good a deal to pass up. Thanks again all!

Yes, it does seem big at first, but you will get used to it. When I first got it, my brother called my a psychotic running nerd from outer space!!!! However, I noticed that MANY people had it at the last marathon I participated in, and believe me, none of these runners looked like psychotic running nerds; they were some of the fittest people I had ever seen in my life!!! Don't let the size prevent you from getting it. I have tiny writsts so I just strap it on the smallest hole and it doesn't bother me at all. You will get used to the size!!!!

Take care,

Ady

This model (305) is the most modern looking I think. I got used to the size easily and as I know people with the previous models, they do seem even bulkier...:)

Again thanks to all who answered. Has anyone ever thought of or purchased Polar's version. The polar rs800 running computer

The design is much sleeker and more wearable as a regular watch but I don't like the foot pod for measuring distance. It is this rock like looking thing that you have to callerbrate to measure distance and basically works as a pedometer. I polar the brand but don't know about this one. any thoughts? :)

If you want an exact measurement of your distance and speed, I would go for the Garmin. It is much more precise to measure distance with satelites than based on your average stride lenght.

mcmain, .. . just took a peek at your pics and they are breath taking. you must have wonderful trail running and hiking opportunities where you live.

thanks ady. you know i agree. i've always had trouble calabrating pedometers for stride length. i guess common sense would actually dictate that your stride length would vary depending on how tired you are and the terrain of the trail which would make the data unreliable. darn it, . . it really just looks very, very big and bulky, . . i'm on the petite side and my wrists are small. well you've sold me i'm ordering it right now. i truly appreciate all the input. although i am getting a good deal it is a financial investment. ;)

lisellesmith, I am very fortunate to have many wonderful trails in Northern Cal to access for trail running. Good luck with your Garmin and I hope you love it...:)

Thanks! The pic as my avatar was taken after 2 P90X rotations back to back. My upper body responds best to heavy weightlifting and VERY clean eating. Some of my favorite Cathes are GS, and S&H for heavy lifting. Right now I am doing 3 weeks of heavy followed by 3 weeks of endurance for my upper body....:)
