Gaining Mass?

Ok, probably a dumb question...but I am new to lifting weights, so I gotta ask. Is the slow and heavy series for gaining mass? I have heard that high reps/low weights are for toning and fat burning...while the low reps/high weights are for building muscle. So I am kinda confused on what kind of goal is obtainable with the slow and heavy series.

Personally, I am looking to gain muscle mass....not just tone up. Would this be the right videos then for me?

Thanks,
Kelly

I would say that, for me anyway, S&H is for building more mass and strength.

Then, when you switch your rotation, you can do tapes for endurance (more reps, lighter weight), which can tone.
This way, you're doing both types of training.

I would agree with lis1. I think, for me, S&H is for gaining strength (not bulk) whereas Power Hour type workouts (CTX LL, Body Max also) give my muscles more definition. I think everyone should incorporate the two kinds of lifting if they can!

Yes, Kelly, if your goal is building muscle mass, doing these videos will help you achieve that goal. In most cases, however, Pure Strength is a better place to start, because by themselves, new, Slow and Heavy might seem foreign to you.

Then again, when I was new to lifting, I might have loved S&H. What do others think?

Hi!
S&H is definetely good for adding definition.

I started back YEARS ago with the Firm - then did the gym route (but changes in job etc no longer near a gym). So I maintained for years doing Firm, free weights at home.

I got WONDERFUL results with S&H - now I'm lifting at a gym.. for me it's VERY motivating to be around other folks working out (now that I'm in shape enough to feel good) - Power Hour is good but more endurance that definition.

If you search the ask cathe archives there have been a number of threads on this where cathe answered about the differences.
