Gain weight?

For me, exercising meant gaining weight. But I was probably too thin before I started. I leveled off though, and the gain was pretty small. I'd rather be healthier and more fit and a little heavier. When I wasn't exercising, I was able to get by eating coffee and toast all day long and I was pretty thin, but unhealthy. Now I eat like a horse, but I wouldn't go back. How much are you gaining? I wouldn't worry about it. :)

Yes, but while I gain (I am in the process still) I LOOK different and feel different---as in when I shower and towel off, all my muscles feel tauter and stronger, and I am less flabby all over. When I climbed into the car the other day, and was buckling up, I looked down and it looked like someone else's thighs (someone leaner-;-) ) and at the same time, I am not losing on the scale.

Throw away your scale. I am losing inches and sizes of clothing while not moving on the scale much. The scale tells you nothing when you are weight training (even if you are doing lots of cardio, too.) Like someone said on here, the scale only tells you how much gravity is pulling on your body. When I look in the mirror, or try on clothing,I see major results and that's a whole lot more motivating than what the scale is telling me.

I lost b/c I had a little to lose. But I do have a friend, that everytime she starts working out(she starts and stops:) etc..)she gains b/c she is naturally thin.
I was noticing the other day.I have another friend, who just had a baby 4 monthes ago.Now don't get me wrong, she looks awesome. She weighs less then me,but I remind myself that muscle weighs more.I was with her the other day and she had shorts on,and I could really see the difference in her legs and my legs. Her legs were shapeless and not thin.Basically our legs were around the same size, while my legs were firm, her legs moved everytime she did.
I'm such a bad friend;) I am not saying this to be mean or anything b/c I love my friends dearly, but sometimes we can get wrapped up in what the scale says, when really it doesn't mean a roll of beans and i was just a reminder.
Lori:)

No, I know what you mean, Lori. I have a SIL who is 20 years younger than me, and is 3 months postpartum. She looks great already---weight off, very slim, but she does no strength training and my feeling is I would rather be taut and toned and have definition. Another SIL, closer to my age, is a bodybuilder (enters competitions) and she looks much better in my opinion, even though she is older. I am working back to fitness right now, but a few years ago, when I was working out HARD, I was at my personal best and I think I looked the best I ever have---and I was about 43. As younger SIL ages, I bet she will find that it is harder and harder to keep that weight off without weights, and that it will 'shift' here and there. I am so glad I began strength training. There is nothing like it for a youthful look. I need that---I will be 50 soon.
