Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's it in?

RE: Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's...

I've got two degrees in Ancient History and am working on my third (PhD). I'm a PTI, so I'm using my degrees for now:)

I have a master's in speech pathology and a certificate in massage therapy. Right now I am doing massage part-time and just applied for a speech job ... so I guess ... yes! I am using my degrees :) .

RE: Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's...

I have a BA in German and Communication (specializing in PR). I used to teach HS German, but have been a SAHM for 12 years until my recent job as a part-time Director of Development for the Y. My German still comes in handy for volunteer work and travel and my Communication helps a little with my new job (e.g., writing press releases).

RE: Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's...

I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's in English (but I'm not nitpicky about grammar/mechanics, as you may have already noticed, so you don't need to be afraid around me). ;) I didn't plan to ever use the English degree. I did that just for me, just because I love it.

However, I find myself, to my own great surprise, using and enjoying every aspect of my education, both in my work and in my day-to-day life. I teach fifth grade full-time, college composition part-time, and even do a little freelance writing on the side.

Yup, to everyone's surprise, I actually do use my degree (and I have never had to ask anyone if they "want fries with that?" As you might expect, though, I don't make a whole lot of money. I do love what I do now, especially in contrast with the secretarial work I did for fifteen years prior to completing my degrees. Life is good.

B.A. in English and M.A. in English with a concentration in American literature, specifically southern and Appalachian. I currently use my degree, as I'm a high school English teacher. I also teach freshman composition through the local community college.

I have a BS in Environmental Engineering and I'm about halfway through with my masters. I work full time in my field, while I'm trying to finish up, so I do use my degree for now.

I have a BA and MA in Anthropology. After temping since I left school, I worked in clinical research and noe I'm a program manager at a nursing school. Not a lot of work for anthropologists!

Interesting reading about everyone's degrees and professions.

I have a BA in Economics. Although I don't remember much of what I learned about economics ("supply and demand" is about it), it was a good background to have for law school, and I still remember my courses in finance which are useful to me in my area of the law.

RE: Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's...

I have an Associates in Applied Science and a BA in Biology. I am a Medical Technologist focusing in Microbiology. So, yes I use both degrees in my job.

Hi. How nice that so many of you are using your degrees. :) I have a BFA in Film and Television, and unfortunately I do not use my degree in my current job (Legal Research), but I'm doing some writing on my own hope to start making my own little projects. *crosses fingers*

I have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, minor in Health Promotion (random, I know...). I currently work in Marketing for an equipment manufacturer so the business part relates.

I'm working on my MBA right now but my true love is health and fitness. My husband is currently working as a graduate assistant football coach in college (they pay for your degree but you don't get paid much more than that) so I'm waiting for him to "make it" so I can do something in health and fitness! :) I just can't afford to take the leap right now even though I'd like to.

I have a BA in psychology. I work in HR, which is a great field for psych. majors who decide that becoming a counsellor or psychologist isn't what they want to do. But...I am a computer HR person - which is hilarious because I took only 2 computer classes in college and didn't get higher than a C+ in either. I had NO CLUE what I was doing.

I'm considering going back to school for programming. Gotta get the employer to pay for it though.:)

I have a BS in Law & Justice and Psychology (double major)a. I also obtained a minor in Spanish. Next I got a Juris Doctor. My career as an attorney uses all of this education quite nicely!

Christine :)

Debbie ~ didn't you have your picture of your cutie pie for your avatar?

Good question. I have my Bachelor's in Mathematics with a minor in computer science. I worked for several years as a software analyst. A fancy name for a computer programmer. I was bored silly, so I went back to school while working and got certified to teach high school math. I did that for a few years and now am a SAHM. Honesly, I think that's the hardest of the three, but the most fullfilling! I've been debating on going back to get certified K-8 now. I think I would enjoy the younger kids more.

It's so neat to see what everyone's background is here.

RE: Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's...

I have a BS in Biology and went back to school for a year to do an intership in Medical Technology.

Elaine, I specialize in Microbiology too! And I'm the resident Mycologist in our lab.

RE: Fun question: If you have a college degree, what's...

Hi Robin,
That is so cool! I like Mycology but I don't get to do it too often. Our lab is a small hospital lab and do limited Mycology.
It is rare to meet (even in cyberspace) someone else who does Microbiology. Nice to meet you.

Elaine:)

I have a B.A. in English and am in law school now. Here's hoping THAT degree does something for me, as the BA sure hasn't. I can only get hired as a secretary...

But, law school is an incredible challenge. I think I know less each day.

I have a BS in Business Administration and minor in Information Systems. I currently work in the IS department, so yep-the degree and job are related.
