Front v. Rear Lunges- Difference?

Hi everyone,

My question is about front and rear lunges. When doing static lunges, you can begin by sending one leg back or one leg forward. When I do either version, I feel the same effect on my legs and glutes, and the movements are exactly the same. I am wondering if I should be feeling something different for each.

Also, I would like to know if the lunges where you step one foot forward, lunge down, return to starting position, and repeat are any different from those where you send one leg back, lunge down, return to starting position, and repeat.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Hi Gina! These are all variations of a lunge. Therefore, you will be hitting all the muscle groups that lunges hit (as well as gain similar results)but each variation will call upon the muscles to do the exercise slightly differently which will promote better results.
