Okay.....What will they think of next? This was in the local paper today. Three judges picked the best new food offerings at the State Fair and Fried Cookie Dough was the winner.
"Fresh cookie dough (with pecans, chocloate chips and coconut) formed into a ball, battered, deep-fried and topped with chocolate syrup or whipped cream."
Other fried creations they named included: Deep-Fried Latte, Fried Chili Frito Burrito, Fried Banana Pudding, Fried Guacamole Bites, Fried Peach Cobbler-on-a-Stick and Fried Sweet Potato Pie.

AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

I was at the Maryland State Fair this past weekend and saw deep fried twinkies and deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches !! My goodness ! I was "good" in that I "only" had a small bag of cotton candy. That was probably the healthiest and lowest calorie item at my state fair !

I've actually tried deep fried twinkies!! I don't recommend anyone do that. You.won't.be.able.to.stop. :) They're soooo good. But, hey. I haven't had one since I tried them 5 years ago. Everything (as sinful as it may be!!) in moderation!! hehe. Ya only live once, right?!

At the annual Del Mar fair here in San Diego, there was NO end to what was offered in the "fried" category. Honorable mentions include:

1. Fried rattlesnake
2. Fried snickers bars
3. Fried coke (no joke..they fried the syrup that is used to make coke)
4. A Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich (fried chicken of course!)
5. And the Heart Attack on a platter...A fried chicken sandwich with fried mozarella sticks, french fries and fried zucchini on it.

I shudder just thinking about these things! x(

Quite frankly, it sounds yummy and I would not think twice about trying it.

No, I would not suggest eating any of these things on a daily basis. Eating these things once in a while as a treat is fine though and this is *exactly* why it is being served at a fair if you ask me. Most people do not attend a fair all that often so to indulge in these foods when they do is really not a big deal.

As a matter of fact, I went to the boardwalk over the weekend and indulged in a couple of zeppola which is basically deep fried dough balls covered in powdered sugar and I loved every bite! YUMMY! }(

JMHO ofcourse :)

AMEN TO THAT, WENDY!!!!!! Well said.

well, I have to admit that if I could get away with eating those foods with NO CONSEQUENCES at all (no weight or fat gain, no clogged artieries, etc..), then I would eat them. But when I saw all those foods at my state fair, it made me think that it is no wonder there are such obesity issues in our country.

Fried Cookie Dough....but once it is fried and cooked it's no longer dough. It's a fried cookie. :9 :9 :9

Sounds interesting but not good for my clean & tidy diet. HA
Fried rattlesnake Rose....I'll pass on that.

What do they fry these dessert in (corn oil)? It really doesn't matter because most oils are high fat.

Not a fried food, but I just saw a Domino's pizza commercial advertising an Oreo cookie pizza. There appeared to be a zillion Oreos all over the pizza crust (not sure what that is made out of?) with whipped cream and chocolate sauce everywhere.
I didn't know whether to wipe the drool off my chin, or run to the loo and lose it!}(

I saw something on the news about FRIED COKE!!! I don't even know how they would do that!!! So, of course I googled it and this is what I found:

Newest Fair Food: Deep-Fried Coca-Cola

POSTED: 12:35 pm EDT September 5, 2006

DALLAS -- There are fried Twinkies and even fried candy bars.

Now, vendor Abel Gonzales Jr. has come up with a new artery-clogging concoction for the State Fair of Texas. It's fried Coke.

Gonzales deep-fries Coca-Cola-flavored batter. He then drizzles Coke fountain syrup on it. The fried Coke is topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Gonzales said the fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud.

Gonzales' diet-buster wins the creativity honor at the second-annual Big Tex Choice Awards Contest.

Judges for the contest chose Shirley London's Fried Praline Perfection as the tastiest fried delicacy.

The two won out among 26 entries such as fried macaroni and cheese and a deep-fried cosmopolitan.

London said she came up with the fried pralines idea after buying pralines at the fair last year. She plans to sell the pralines alongside fried marshmallows.

Gonzales achieved notoriety in 2005 with the fried peanut butter, banana, and jelly sandwich -- selling an estimated 25,000 of the treats, according to the fair's Web site. The site said London got media attention in 2004 with her fried marshmallows on-a-stick.

This is the same state fair that brought about the corn dog. The Web site said Neil and Carl Fletcher conjured up a sweetened corn-battered wiener on-a-stick and sold it for 15 cents during the 1942 State Fair of Texas.

The fair begins Sept. 29.

COME ON!!! GROSS!!! :p

Seriously, is it a shorter list as to what doesn't get fried? Hee.

I'm up for tasting most things. You only live once. *runs off in the corner w/ a twinkie*

Brain cells come & brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.

I'm with Wendy. Sounds yummy and once in a life time won't kill you, or even cause you to gain so much weight you won't fit in your jeans tomorrow.

I don't think I'd like the fried Coke. I'm a Pepsi gal.

Actually, I indulge in sweets from time to time - primarily chocolate, but reading about all this fried food is enough to flare up my acid reflux...I might be able to try it, but I'd be sicker than sicker later on! UUG!

At the Sacramento State Fair they had fried 'Elvis' sandwiches. A peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich, dipped in pancake batter and deep fried...so the fried Coke doesn't surprise me at all.

EEW!
Don't they also make fried candy bars at some fairs?
I wonder if they'll ever offer fried butter balls, like Paula Dean makes.

I'm not sure if some of this stuff should even be eaten 'once in a blue moon' LOL! Eating a high fat meal has immediate effects on the blood: making it thicker. Some of this stuff sounds so high in fat (transfat at that) I can imagine someone having a heart attack after eating just one. (Even reading about it might cause palpitations in susceptible individuals!) :p

(You may only live once, but these things could make that go-round shorter than you would expect).

Perhaps true Kathryn but sometimes being silly and enjoying something on occasion can also have a positive effect on your overall health. I would rather have a shorter go around than be a bump on a log (which of course no one here can be accused of that ;-) )

I'm thinking that fried cookie dough is probably worth the years it might take off my life!:9 }( :7

ETA: A poster above had mentioned Domino's new oreo pizza dessert. I just saw it on the news this morning. OMG does it look YUMMY!}(
