Friday Fun! Tell us something....

Cathlete
...about yourself that most of us wouldn't already know. Are you an aspiring painter? Do you collect 18th century teapots? Have you lived in an exotic location? Let's get to know our fellow Catheites! :D

I guess I'll start... I taught myself to play piano when I was a wee little girl - I started playing simple songs by ear on a mini keyboard when I was about 7. A couple years later, I got a full-size keyboard and taught myself notes and chords, and played more songs by ear. And when I was in 6th grade, I learned to read sheet music in school, so I started playing more complex songs and composing my own music. I am a pretty decent improvisational piano player - I just play whatever comes out of my fingers. :) I should really find the time to play more. It's so soothing (not for DH though, who has to listen to all my wrong notes!). ;)

I collect pottery. We have a great pottery areas in our state. There is one in Seagrove, NC. I just love to go there.

Wow, I'm so impressed by your musical talent. I learned to play by reading music, but was always envious of anyone who could just play by ear.

I am probably the only catheite who does Sporting Clays as a hobby. I just started this last fall, so I am not that good yet. Sporting clays is shooting clay birds with a shotgun. Not too many women do it, but it is quite fun. Its kind of like golfing with a shotgun. You have to go to different stations and you get clay birds thrown in a different pattern at each station. I'm striving to be as good as the guys doing this.

I had a stalker for ten years, from age 18 - 28, and never found out who it was. I think it was probably the poor man who introduced my father-in-law (apparently thinking he was my father) to his "grandaughter," a little girl he said was MY daughter. I'm pretty sure I only gave birth to one child, and he is a boy. Very sad (and more than a little frightening).

SO FUNNY, LUNA! So was I! I made, like, 70 buck in 45 minutes.

That wasn't what I was going to choose, though. In school, I was such a brown-noser. I always raised my hand, always participated in class discussions. Think Election (with Reese Witherspoon) but more likeable (I hope) and less uptight with more spunk. I once got into a debate with Marvin Johnson's (the boxer) daugher (and his very strong, muscular daughter is no less scary) in personal business law once, and she complimented me on my skills. Oh, yeah. I felt good. I want to go back to school because I miss this.;(

Kathy - that sounds like fun! I've always kinda wanted to try shooting a gun - I've never even touched one before!

If it makes you feel any better, I am really not very good at playing from sheet music at all. I taught myself by listening and duplicating what I heard, so I never was able to break out of that mindset even after I learned how to read music. When I play from sheet music, I always cheat and play from the guitar chords rather than the piano music. LOL! Otherwise I'm too slow! :)

Missy,

I made like $15 in 5 minutes because it was an audition situtation at 11:00 am and there were maybe a dozen guys in there and they weren't generous yet. 45 minutes! You're braver than I was!

I honeymooned in New Zealand. Most beautiful country on earth!

I shoot also. DH bought me an automatic for Christmas last year. A Walther P22. We go a shooting range a few times a year. DH comes from a family of sharpshooters and agreed to teach me. It's sort of fun!

I am a recovered alcoholic. I drank for 20 out of my 35 years and finally 1&1/2 yrs. ago gave it up and started the long battle of recovery. I had a
hole in my soul that I tried to fill from the age of 13.
It took me 3 years to be able to keep it down, now that I have, I am the happiest I have ever been in my life. My soul is filled w/ peace and serenity from God. My sons have their Mommy and my DH has his wife. I never got into any trouble or anything. I was just out of control. All I wanted to do was party.
I just told DH last night that I finally feel like my life is filling up w/ good things. I'm sober, I'm taking care of myself, my family, I have wonderful friends, & I don't want for anything except to help anyone who needs to know that there is a better way to live.
Hope that's not too personal. It feels good to be honest w/ you all.
Kali

Oh and I just started guitar lessons yesterday!

It was a club that my girlfriend during shift change (9ish?). I was so *high* (what is that?). I was in there to pick her up and it just happened. I don't know how something like that just happens, but when you are friends with Mary Jane weird stuff just.....happens.
Oh, those b.c days. My children will never find out! Everyone here is sworn to silence!

Luna and Missy,

I have always wondered what it would be like to be a stripper! I always said if I had the nerve and the body I would do it but I don't so I won't. x( The money to be made is awesome though, huh!?

I was a dancer until I was 18 yrs. old. And always wanted to take it further and be one of those dancers like on the awards shows with the band. I always picture myself dancing with those thugs who sing rap. My DH always looks at me when its on and says He know I would love to do that.

Well now in reality since I had my kids 14 yrs. ago, I was going to be a nurse. But the whole way it was whenever it was good for the kids. Well they can stay at home by theirselves and I still make excuses not to go. I don't know why I put this off. I think I'm afraid of going out and doing something.

Ssssssssssssssssssh! don't let anyone know I told you this!

I couldn't do it now, but this was about 1 1/2 years ago and I was about 10 lbs lighter! :) I was totally sober when I did it and my legs were trembling quite a bit. let me tell you, my quads were sore for three days after! :)

About me... I am an avid reader. When I was in 6th grade, I read War & Peace in a weekend, wrote a book report about it, and then had the teacher FAIL me because she was sure I was lying. B*tch. lol.

Kali, I think that is awesome. You go, girl!

To you strippers: I am awed! I have never had a good enough body image to take my clothes off in front of other people.

Cheers,
Marie

Wow, what an inspirational story! You are such an amazing and strong woman! You must be so proud of yourself. So many people can't get out of where you were. Your husband must be amazed at you.

Emily --

Cool thread and even cooler talent!! That's quite an achievement as piano isn't the easiest instrument to play.

You set the bar too high!

Hmmmm..... here's one. I taught myself to cook when I was about 7 when my idol was Julia Child. I've studied food and cooking ever since and am quite an accomplished home chef. I ran a catering business on the side about 6 years ago - lot's of fun but lots of work.

I've been writing a cookbook for about 10 years consisting of "gourmet" but healthy recipes. They can all be "tweaked" to taste, so my hope is to publish it one day with nutritional info and suggestions for variations to each recipe.

Lately I've been thinking of developing it into a "bodybuilding" cookbook using the "power foods" of the fitness industry. There could be chapters for recipes that are: high protein, low carb, low fat, high fiber, protein+carb+fat balanced combos, vegetarian, vegan, power smoothies....

Someday.....
