Good morning!
Sorry I haven't been checking in on weekends. The internet at the house has been acting wonky lately, and it's just so much easier to check in at work.
I survived the Warrior Dash on Saturday! It was a LOT of fun. We only ran maybe 1/2 of the race because the trail itself was nothing but mud. We could barely walk the trail, so running really wasn't an option. I don't think it was supposed to be that way; it just happened to rain a lot the two days prior to the race. Oh well! The obstacles were fun and for the most part doable (2 cargo nets, mud mounds, balance beam, low walls, barbed wire crawl, pit crawl, fire jumps, mud pit, etc.). The 14/16 foot vertical wall almost took me out, but I did it! Being short put me at an extreme disadvantage because I couldn't reach up high enough to grab the next knot on the rope. I almost fell the first time so I jumped down, took a few breaths, collected myself, and tried again, this time succeeding. There was another wall, but it was slanted so it made it a little easier. Again, my arms weren't long enough to reach the next knot on the rope but this time I just jumped and hoped for the best. Luckily I caught myself each time. I'm very proud of myself for completing the race and every obstacle. It was definitely a challenge for me, but I enjoyed it so much i've already signed up for the Capital City River Dash (aka mud run) 5k on September 28th! It's a local race and it's only the 2nd time the race has been held, so I have no idea what to expect. Luckily, I convinced my DH to run this race with me (he also ran the WD with me, thank goodness, because without him I highly doubt I would have made it over that first stupid wall). Also, thanks to Wendy, i'm dying to try a Spartan Sprint. Of course there isn't a single Spartan race in Kentucky, but I found one only three hours away in Indiana. The race isn't until next April, but that's okay. I definitely need to train a bit more before I tackle a Spartan!
I've decided to take an official active recovery week. My plan is to do 2 days of cardio, and yoga/stretching the other days. I intended to do yoga yesterday, but that just didn't happen. Today after work i'm going to hit up a Punch class. I haven't been in awhile, so i'm looking forward to it.
Wiggie: You got in some great workouts last week. Nice job!! I love Athletic Training too. It's one of my favorites! So glad to hear the golf tournament went well! Were you raising money for a specific charity? The first time planning/executing an event like that is always stressful, but it sounds like it was a success. Congrats!! No worries re: drifting away from the Combat workouts. I totally understand. I've been doing them hodge-podge myself.
Wendy: So what's the swing count?!?!?! You've been racking them up like crazy! I love your in-the-park workout. Do you ever get crazy looks from other parkgoers? The Capital City River Dash is being held in a local park so I told DH we need to go down there and run so we are familiar with the terrain. We might as well throw in some hill runs, burpees, pushups, etc. while we are at it!
