I want to get satelite radio and don't know which company is more enjoyable. Any opinions?

IMHO XM offers more music options and cover the "best game you can name", hockey. I also can't say I am a fan of Howard Stern.

Hey! I have Sirius in my car & XM at home so I'm familiar with both. They each have great music, news, & entertainment channels but I like Sirius better for reasons that may or may not be important to you. Sirius has a contract with the NFL to carry all of the games & they will also be taking over the contract for NASCAR next year (XM has it through the end of 2006). Since I'm a big fan of both, this really does it for me. My DH likes Stern, exclusive to Sirius, & also Blue Collar Comedy which I love. I would recommend going to each website & browsing for yourself to see which would suit you better. Other than some of the sports & entertainment differences, the music is really quite similar. One thing is for sure, you will not regret your decision no matter which one you choose.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks Kel. That was very helpful. I'm not interested in the sports programing. My hubby has Sirius in his car so I am familiar with that one. I'll log onto XM web site for more info. Great idea. Thanks

not too many satellite users out there.......

I have XM - I did some research beforehand, and found that XM is supposed to have the best reception. In addition, they had better prices on their radios, and I was able to get a MyFI XMtoGo which is portable, and has a home and car docking station so I can play it at home, in the car, or use it like an Ipod when I go for a walk. I am VERY pleased with it. They now have portable units which are also MP3 players. The radio was $110.00 plus shipping on ebay, and I got a 12 month subscription package for 12 months. I can also play XM music stations on any computer from XM's website, so any computer is a player.

XM is awesome to me!
Music
I kind of listen to a little of everything but mostly stick with what is popular so R&B, hip hop, and pop. With that being said XM has 6 stations, 3 that are R&B and 3 that just play all the popular music that are out now. Then they have a great gospel station and a wonderful jazz station. (They actually have 3 of both of these but I only like 1)

Entertainment
Plus I love E! so I can listen to E true hollywood story,
I can listen to Oprah, oldtime mysteries on the Sonic Channel,
They also have a great comedy channel so when I need a chuckle, I just listen to a 3 minute stand up routine from a popular comedian.

News
In the mornng i listen to CNN, but if there is something happenng that I want to hear about I can also hit Headline News, ABC or Fox.

Hope this helps.

Watch the add on costs.

I did a cost compare before buying Sirius, things may have changed but when I made the choice this is what the deal was

Sirius was $12.99/month for the first radio, 6.99 flat for radios 2,3,4. (We have 3). Listening over the web (broadband)is free, this saves installing a radio at the house. There are no "premium" channnels on Sirius, the basic fee gets it all.

A lot of what Sirius gave me was included in the base rate but with XM everything had an add on price.

XM just signed Oprah, Sirius has Howard. I got the satelite radio so I didn't have to listen to talking people so I could care less about the talk shows, I'm in it for the commercial free music that is on formatted channels, in other words I don't have a Carpenters song playing after an AC/DC song.

Hi Honey,
If I could not get a radio on e-bay, then how would I find one? When I purchase a radio do I get the subscription at the same time and at the place I purchase the radio? Sorry, I just have never know anyone who has this service and what you have that is portable sounds SO KEWL!!!!

Thanks~deb

My sister and her husband both have XM. I had to borrow her car and thought it was cool. There is so many channels I ended up searching forever for what I wanted to listen too.

Try Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc. I got the radio and then got the subscription. A one year subscription works out to $12.00 a month. I have one radio 'cause I can use it in the house, in the car, at work, and as a portable unit, so that saves $$.

If you go to the XM website, you can see examples of radios and then you can shop:

This is what I have:

RE: For those with satellite radio which company is be...

I didn't vote, although I've had XM for about 4-5 years. I've never listened to Sirius, so I don't think I could make a fair comparison.

That being said - I love my satellite radio!! It's an investment, to be sure (although it is much cheaper now than when I initially signed up), but I think it is well worth it to listen to radio without commericials, which is it's biggest selling point to me.

RE: For those with satellite radio which company is be...

I've had XM for over a year and love it. I can't make any comparison to Sirius as I've never listened. I love everything about XM radio. We bought my mom one for Mother's Day and she loves it. I love the fact that I can listen to the baseball games (I'm a Cubs fan) and can't always watch the games where I'm living in South Georgia. I also love the talk radio stations. We have the worst radio stations down here. I was born and raised in the Chicago area so I know what radio should be about and they just don't get it down here. They recently added a station from Nashville, so I'm hoping that maybe they will add a station from Chicago.

I only had one issue with billing but that was cleared up rather quickly.
