For those who are/were a bit overweight...

Hi, I was intriqued when I saw that some people were getting better results with more resistance training and getting faster results. I just wanted to ask if the results showed fat loss or were you already in good shape as far as that was concerned, and the weights just helped define the muscles.

Gosh, I am sooo ready to drop my credit card down on the STS purchase, but am still so unsure, it is alot of money. I need to lose at least 40 lbs to be at a healthy weight.

Also, does anyone feel like they'd be out in left field once they're done with their 3 months of STS and not sure where they'd go from there to keep up the results???

Hello Carrie,

I think you are echoing what a lot of people on this board are feeling, Where do we go from here? What SNM has said is that you could do a rotation with three full body workouts per week or what I plan to do is the 4 day split. As long as you maintain the heavy weight lifting with a good diet and don't go down in weights I would think you would be able to maintain your strength and endurance.

To answer your cardio question, I would consider myself in good shape. I am strong, athletic and powerful and I am capable of a lot. Having said that my outside didn't match what I know my body could do. I didn't have any definition and frankly all the hours of cardio I would do didn't put a dent in creating bigger stonger longer or more visible muscles.

I started with P90X and saw results, bigger muscles more definition and inches lost and am now onto 4 day split. Heavier weights made the difference even for someone like me who did hours of cardio thinking "Cardio will melt my fat away and then you will be able to see my chiseled muscles!" well I learned it is a balance.

Is it a lot of money yes, is it an investment hell yes. Will I have to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars a year on going to the gym no, I will go to my basement and get a ridiculously awesome workout.

Carrie, I have dropped 40 pounds. I was a fit fat person, have been working out for 30+ years, but until I watched my diet, the weight does not drop.

However, once I started watching what I eat, the weight melted away, and I think it was because of the muscle mass I carry that makes it easier for me, because at middle age, most people find it hard to lose.

As far as after 3 months, I am always ready to move on to the next thing, and I figure there will be a next thing.

I'm also one of those individuals who was a fit heavy person. I have lost just over 40 pounds and am at my goal weight. I was able to drop the weight by eating clean. I have found that I find myself doing MORE strength work than cardio. I really look forward in what STS will provide me now and for years to come. Currently, I've been using Cathe's GS and 4DS weights as my heavy weight workouts. I look forward in what STS will provide to help me increaase my strength potential and, hopefully, end up with a more toned frame. :D

Carrie -

I also consider myself a fit heavy person - I can workout like anyone else - but just hasnt been showing on the scale. I looked over my workouts from last year (I write them on my cathe calendar) and I focused on cardio - no consistant weight training.

Now with the 4DS - I am seeing faster changes than ever before. I still have the 40 lbs to lose - but I see inches changes and of course it doesnt happen overnight - I am hoping at the 6 week mark of doing the 4DS rotation - that it will really start moving the scale. My arms are showing way more definition than they have in a while.

So with doing a 4DS rotation, throwing in Butts&Gutts and Drill Max on the weekend - I hope to be prepared for the STS. I think the STS is exactly what I am needing to reach my goal. Although my goal is 40 x 40 (40 lbs by my 40th bday) and since that is in July - hopefully we will have STS in the May timeframe (just guessing based on filming in Feb) - so I can at least be a month or so in on the STS.

Anyways - here's to us Fit Heavy gals whipping it into shape!!! :)

This is exactly why I can't stay away from here. You gals are so great. I feel 10Xs more confident in the direction I need to go.

I'll probably keep torturing myself until I pre-order STS. Until then I'll set myself up with the 4DS after my doctor's appt. today. Follow-up from laser surgery in lower back. I have to clear exercises with him first.

We are taking a family vacation in 6 1/2 weeks, I think the 4DS rotation is exactly what I need, since I'll have to wear a swimsuit:eek:

Thank you so much for the advice and info. If we get the STS in May we'll be in top shape by July. Yes, right before the family-in-laws reunion, where they usually comment on my weight:*

I was never fit and have been between 180-225 lbs. for well over ten years. About a year ago I decided to make an effort and began with The Firm, which I did religiously for about six months. The Firm prides themselves on being the first to introduce mixing aerobics with light weights (what we call circuit, now). It may have done good for me, cardio-wise, but it did nothing for changing my body - and fat girls want to see results. Six months was enough wasted time. I read a lot of reviews at CollageVideo.com and that's where I stumbled onto Cathe. I was especially impressed with the reviews of her Gym Style 3-day split dvd's. I never enjoyed doing cardio but remembered I LOVED weight training, way back in the day. Still, I began with Low Max, which I found hard but fun. About a month later I bought the entire Hardcore series but really fell hard for the the GymStyle 3-day split because I could see good results rather quickly. Hanging around these boards I learned about clean eating (& Tosca) and began changing my diet. I injured my shoulder and wasn't doing any weight training for awhile but I got more and more serious about clean eating. I saw better results then. And I returned to doing the 3-day split along with getting even more serious about the eating and have been AMAZED! I read just about everything I can get my hands on in regards to diet and exercise and have learned that cardio is good but if you're trying to lose weight an emphasis on weight training and clean eating is most effective - something I'd accidentally found to be true anyway, but it's been good having the research back up my own findings. I'm totally jazzed about STS, even though I KNOW it will be a very long time before I'll be able to lift serious weight (still being careful with the shoulder). When I started with The Firm I weighed 223 and I lost some weight but I was at 194 on December 24 and weighed in at 175 this morning. Clearly, I got the fastest results with a combination of Cathe's weight training and clean eating so I'm REALLY jazzed about STS. It's periodization (proven effective time and again) and it's Cathe; two things I know work are joining forces. Hoo-ha.

Thank you for the insight. Really. I remember back in the day when I liked the firm too. I also have struggled with weight (180-215) for about ten years now:( I have the gym styles, and have not really given them a chance because I too have been on and off with injuries and surgeries. It's been one thing after another. But I think I am alright enough to be able to modify a few things. Can you tell me where the GS 3 day split rotation is located. I'm not sure but I'll look in the advanced search:) Did you use any type of cardio in particular, low or high intensity ect.

Gosh, thank you so much. I can't wait to get started again:)
