I have a friend who knows I'm an avid reader of this & other forums that has asked for my "expert" advise. My first thought was read these forums--but I know she won't do that thinks this is for freaks (are we freaks?). She is pretty heavy in her hip & stomach & gains muscle relatively easily. She wants to shed some of this weight around her hips & stomach. I advised her that she should reduce her weights & do more cardio. She then proceded to ask which tapes I would recommend. Right away I thought about CTX because it would give her a good cardio workout every day & work one body part. She also has a few Firm classics that she likes but they really concentrate on legs/hips & butt, which cause her to get a really huge bubble butt. So, I told her that while she needs to work her legs, she would want to use VERY light weights for her legs.

What do you think? What other advise can I provide?

She is thinking like how I used to way back. I think CTX is definately a good start. But what she is thinking is spot reducing. If I only work on the butt and legs then this will be the area that gets fit....wrong! She needs a clean diet, cardio and weight training in order to lose the fat. If she is doing the same tapes over and over, her body may be just getting used to it. She probably needs to change it up a bit.

She sounds like she has a pear shape. Is this true? I do, that is why I am asking. Let her know that building muscle on top will put her more in proportion with her hips. So don't shy away from building on the upper body. Besides, the more muscle she has, the more calories your body will burn at rest.

Thats my advice. Lets see what the others say.

Thanks, Kelly! You are right she is a pear & we did talk about muscle building on her upper body. I didn't think how it would even her out proportionately. Thanks for reminding me of that!

We also talked about clean eating. She is just starting down that road. She just switched her family over to whole wheat bread & is reducing her sugar intake.

I also explained how muscle will continue to burn calories when she is at rest, where cardio works harder when we are actually doing it.

I knew I could count on someone here to confirm what we had talked about! I have learned so much from everyone here!
