Last night I ran into a friend and noticed she lost some weight. She told me that she is doing this diet program which is an Online thing. I can't remember the name but I know it had the word "Extreme" in it. Anyway, she proceeds to tell me that for $100.00 you put in your body type and some other info. and then they give you an eating plan designed just for you. So far, not so bad, right?

Next she tells me about the workout plan they gave her. Twice per week, she uses a band ONLY to do some exercises. She didn't tell me all of the movements, but what she told me next made me have to contain myself. They said that if you want to "lose weight" and not "bulk up" you don't do full movements for each exercise. You only use a band, no weights, and you only do what looks like a partial rep. She only showed me a couple of things, but for each exercise it was only partial reps. In other words, for biceps, you don't EVER go past a 45 degree angle, for triceps you don't ever extend fully, just half way. Same for all body parts. For squats, you stay shallow, same for rear leg lifts, only go up a tiny bit, lunges, hardly even bend, etc... Again, this is for people who don't want to "get bulky." This is what they give women who want to look "Lean." They said that if you wanted to "bulk up" then you do a full rep. and use weights. WHAT??? UMM,as for cardio, not necessary, apparantly. At all. Only twice per week, very Lamo band workouts. That's it. Presto. No other working out is necesssary.

I just changed the subject and kept the peace.

I guess we've all been doing it wrong this whole time. Either that or we are all just way too Bulky! ;-)

Oh for crying out loud.....!!! Anything to make a "diet" program "appealing"!? If they said you really had to work and sweat to lose those pounds, no one would sign up.

Must be the same program that one of my former friends signed up for, they told her not to do any cardio and 10 minutes, 3 times per week of "strength" training with a rubberband.

That lady was laughing at me because I'd be sweaten' every day with my "crazy" workout and it doesn't have to be that hard. Alrighty then, hmmmh, I think she even gained weight on that program and quit doing it.

But then again, that's the same lady that told me, another diet program allowed her to have as many Captain Morgan with Diet Coke/Pepsi as she wanted because it's "no carb".

It is pathetic how uninformed the general public is, and how many people still fall for the "quick fix" we-have-the-solution-to-your-problem-and-it's-not-hard marketing ploy!

Oh lordy, I know all the executives in the diet industry are laughing all the way to the bank. It just aggrevates me!

Haha

Makes good business sense I guess. I mean, if they actually helped their clients lose weight they wouldn't be needed would they?

How sad. This is a good example of why people who are trying to lose wt get frustrated x( Because you've got lame brains out there selling crap like this claiming it to work. So people assume when they fail that it must be that they just can not lose the wt no matter what they do. Sorry I'll get off my horse now.

As long as there are people out there who do not want to work hard, who are really not concerned with genuine fitness and who do not understand the true meaning of the word "health," then there will be "programs" like the one you describe to suit them. As long as there are people whose only concern is aesthetics rather than true health, there will be quack programs like this one ready to make a fast buck out of them.

You were right to say nothing and keep the peace. Your friend has the program she wants. She's obviously contented. No point in upsetting her with the truth, right?!!

And no, you don't look bulky at all. Neither does Cathe, and I believe she does, oh my gosh yes!, FULL REPS!!!

Whacky!
That's all I can say.

Though I now have an idea for supplementing my income: I'll set up a web site, and for a mere $75, I will set up a diet plan. For another $75, you can get my special exercise program.

that was the best thing to do change the subject and keep the peace smart girl she probaly have to starve herself to stay thin and twice a week is not going to be a toned thin either. i double up to two hours a day for a few of days when i feel like im gaining weightit always works. then i turn it down some:)

Katherine... Since yours is only 75.00, sign me up. But, by "special" exercise program, would that include only partial reps or do we have to go 3/4 of the way?? Because if it is any more than partial I think I'll pay the $100.00 my friend paid since it doesn't require as much effort!

If I find out the name of this plan I'll let you guys know. I don't want to be too obvious and just ask her, so I'll have to be kind of slick about it. I'm dying to look it up though!

:D

It's amazing that in this day and age, women still fall for that BS. Really, you see somewhat decent workouts in tons of magazines. You see and hear about how "Celebrities" get in shape, which required working out hard. You see tons of infomercials with some decent workouts (some not so decent, but still). You see trainers demonstrate workouts on TV shows. It's all around us anymore. How can you not see it? Are people that blind?

To tell you the truth, I love working out really hard!!!!!

I also love to sometimes lift light weights, and then other times lifting very heavy weights! I am not too bulky, but I feel as though I have pretty good muscle definition.

It is so much fun to switch it up, and I love the feeling that I really pushed myself to finish a tough workout!

:)

I don't know if I should divulge the secret to my exercise program, but if you don't tell anyone else....it's based on mental reps: you hold the band (actually, a rubber band that comes free with every program!) in one position---the beginning position of a full rep--then imagine that you are doing full reps. Then you hold it in the end position of that same move and imagine doing more full reps.

Only 5 minutes a day, and GUARANTEED to not make you bulky and hideous!

Yeah me too. I could be Corey Everson's twin. For crying out loud. I detest that phrase "bulk up"--it's just physiologically impossible for women to get bulky unless they're on the juice. I lift as heavy as I can & I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be considered bulky.

I hear this all the time. It's just an excuse not to work hard. If she wants to lose weight then fine, she doesn't have to lift heavy, but quit making excuses already.

You were smart not to argue w/her. It's funny b/c I've found many women who are just starting out think they know more than women who've been involved w/fitness for years. I remember this salesgirl who used to work at my gym, she'd been exercising for maybe a year, was constantly giving me exercise advice. I had to force myself to ignore her without telling her to shut the heck up (not necessarily the phrase that was going thru my mind if you know what I mean ;-) ).

<Oye! This sounds like something Greer Childers would schlep.>

Uh, EXCUSE ME but Greer Childers is GAWD!! Now back to my rubberbands if you don't mind.

And I'd be down with Kathryn's program if the weight reps included 12 oz curls. I like my beer :9 :9 :9 :9 :9

OMG Kathryn... LMAO!!! SIGN ME UP!! The only thing that would make your secret workout better would be if you could do it while laying down, and do one side at a time so that you could be sipping diaquiris ( and I'm talking good and sugary ones) with the other hand!! You are be gonna be the next Cathe... I can just see it now!!

I'm with all of you, I like working hard and I know for a fact that's the only way to really lose weight and get in shape since I lost 125 pounds 6 years ago!! My friend who is on this "diet" knows this and saw me lose the weight, get in great shape and also knows that I teach exercise classes and am about to take my certification test to become a personal trainer. Still, she tried to convince me about the "partial rep." theory with the "rubber" band ( love that one!).

Still, I'm trying Kathryn's plan... I'm feeling "lean" just thinking about it!!

SHHH! I can't give away all my secrets now, can I? You'll have to sign up to find out more!
